Question of the Day

Wednesday, Mar 26, 2008 - Posted by Kevin Fanning

* Oliver Stone is directing a movie about George Bush called “W,” and Josh Brolin will be playing the embattled President.

Our Question of the Day consists of two parts. If a movie was made about Governor Blagojevich….

a) Who would you cast to play our embattled governor?

and

b) What title would you give the film?

* Let’s have some fun with this one…

The Governor would be played by Andy Richter and the title would be
    Incompetent not Corrupt

    Some other titles.

    Coincidences
A little help from my friends
    Not my fault
    All sizzle no steak

    lol

  3. - S. Illinois - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 12:19 pm:

I think they should pull one of those Tribbles out of the original Star Trek series to play the governor. And since sequels always do so well at the box office, they should call it “Clueless 2.”

  4. - Papi - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 12:25 pm:

Call it Milorad, it could be a Borat-esque parody of a serbian immigrant trying and hilariously failing in his effort to be a well-coiffed slick corrupt governor

  5. - Andy - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 12:26 pm:

    Mr. Blagojevich Goes to Springfield…Rarely

  8. - Frank and Honest (Abe) - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 12:36 pm:

Adam Sandler staring in “Reign Over Me No More…Please”

  10. - Plutocrat03 - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 12:44 pm:

    Pee-wee Herman could use a new gig,…

Uncle Rod’s Playhouse or Little Rod’s Big Adventure would work as a title.

  11. - Commonsense in Illinois - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 12:44 pm:

I’d make it a animated film with Alfred E. Newman in the “starring” role. Title…wait for it…What, me worry?

  12. - Dale Allen - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 12:46 pm:

A remake of The Flim Flam Man. Only one person can portray this con artist: Rod Blagojevich.

  13. - BigDog - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 12:46 pm:

I’d go with Jim Carrey, who was great in “Dumb and Dumber”. Since they’ve already made the prequel to that movie and it was titled “Dumb and Dumberer”, the Blago movie could simply be titled “Dumbest”.

  14. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 12:51 pm:

    “Rodfellas”

    Ray Liotta

Tagline: “Ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a gangster, um governor.”

  18. - Levois - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 1:13 pm:

I can see already a movie made thru cheap digital video cameras that might win raving reviews as a cartoonish biography of a politician. I can see it being a cult hit. Someone should really make it.

  19. - Irish - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 1:14 pm:

The guy from the Earnest movies. The name Earnest doesn’t go to Springfield.

  20. - Levois - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 1:14 pm:

Oh and it deserves an hilarious title like The WIG!

    Bill Clinton plays Blago
    The name……Mr. Sleaze

  23. - SouthernILRepub - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 1:24 pm:

Irish, that would be Jim Varney (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001815/) you are referring to. The title would be “Rod scares Springfield.”

Steve Martin - Rod, only because Rod’s ineptness reminds people of Martin when he starred in “The Jerk.”

Title - Barbershop 3 : The Soul Man

  24. - Irish - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 1:25 pm:

    OR…………

  29. - Z - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 1:49 pm:

  32. - What can I say? - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 2:20 pm:

Plutocrat03, PeeWee was the first one that came to mind for me, too. He’s the only one smarmy enough to play hot rod.
As for a title (and I hope there’s no copyright issues), but Dreamworks comes to mind.

  33. - tas - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 2:28 pm:

Are you there Rod? It’s me Patrick.

  34. - KC - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 2:31 pm:

  36. - cardsmama - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 2:44 pm:

Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genious???? - cartoon character.
There is an episode called “Confusion Fusion” that has a great cover on the box. (If I were more computer savvy, I would be able to attach a pic!) I know, I’m not original, but it seems appropriate!

  37. - North of I-80 - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 2:48 pm:

Paul Reubens [Pee Wee] taken already - darn!
    along w/ Rod’s Playhouse… nice work Plutocrat3 + What Can I say?

To play the role of the governor, I can’t decide between Larry, Moe, or Curley.

  39. - Truthful James - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 3:02 pm:

    Governor — Jack Nicholson
Title — One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest — but Rarely Landed

For the name of the film: Hair!

Starring: Erik Estrada as the esteemed Governor Hair

  41. - Kevin Fanning - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 3:07 pm:

LOL Erik Estrada is pretty funny

  42. - VanillaMan - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 3:11 pm:

So do you mean that after James Brolin played Ronald Reagan in that laughable movie a few years ago, we now have his SON playing George W Bush?

Gee, how much money are the Brolins paying the GOP to smear them in these movies? Whats the problem? Can’t Stone find another family to portrait GOP presidents? What’s next? Barbra Streisand as Elizabeth Dole? Get a clue!

  43. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 3:14 pm:

“The Man Who Wasn’t There” starring Billy Bob Thornton.

An actually movie starring Billy Bob Thornton, by the way.

“The Combine Conspiracy” starring Aaron Eckhart as the Democrat elected to clean up after a corrupt GOP governor who instead takes corruption to new levels.

    Practically writes itself…

  47. - Patriot - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 3:25 pm:

The “Man Who Would Be King” starring Soupy Sales.

  48. - unclesam - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 3:26 pm:

I thought a movie had already been made — you know, the movie “Hot Rod” starring Andy Sandberg.

Anyway, since Blagojevich is clearly just as crazy as Jack Sparrow and Sweetney Todd, it appears will have to cast Johnny Depp to play Blago (plus, Depp is probably the only one crazy enough to do the role).

The title: “Green — a story of power, corruption, money and a hairbrush.”

Alternative title: “Jacka** — the final show”

  49. - Balderdash - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 4:00 pm:

    Cousin It from Adams Family

  50. - Tin Man - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 4:09 pm:

Blago would be played by Alvin the chipmonk and the title would be Sing along with Alvin in sing sing.

  51. - Mr. Cub - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 4:12 pm:

    Dr. Seuss’s “Who am I?”

  52. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 4:12 pm:

    Drama:

Yes, Ray Liotta, but “Rod’s Fella’s”

  54. - pickles!! - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 4:55 pm:

    or
Michael Moore in “Blago & Me” with the Guv playing himself.

  55. - Keyser Soze - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 5:15 pm:

I’m glad that I am not the only one to see the resemblance of Rod to Alfred E. Neuman.

  56. - Will - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 5:32 pm:

    Hair
    Starring John Travolta

  57. - Disgusted - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 5:38 pm:

    Movie title: “Guilty as Charged”
Actor: Buster Poindexter - same big mouth and hair

of maybe one of the cavemen from the Geico commercials. Blago’s has a Cro-Magnon hairline.

  58. - S. Illinois - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 5:51 pm:

Aw….come on Kevin. I didn’t think I was that far out of line. And now Vanilla Man has since used the same title….I just thought there was a more appropriate star. Besides-u said to have fun and you’ve got to admit it was funny.

  59. - JakeCP - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 5:52 pm:

The star would be a much older and a little fatter version of Tom Cruise. The movie would be called:

Gov. Blagojevich and the Chicago Blackhawks

  60. - Carl Nyberg - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 5:53 pm:

John Cusack is about the right age and from Illinois. He doesn’t have RB’s hair, but with a wig…. Blagojevich is good with the making you feel he’s sincere. I think Cusack could convey that.

How about “Marrying Opportunity” as a title?

  61. - Princeville - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 6:22 pm:

You all are good at this. So far I like VanillaMan and Will’s suggestions best. But who will play the spin sisters!

How the heck did hunky Josh Brolin get pegged to be George W. ?

  62. - Shelbyville - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 7:10 pm:

    Wayne Newton

(He’s actually been to the mansion, more times than the governor.)

  63. - Frank and Honest (Abe) - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 7:29 pm:

    The movie: “Stir Crazy”

“We bad . . .That’s right, we bad”

  65. - SLB - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 8:04 pm:

    Keanu Reeves
    “Theater of the Absurd”

  66. - Anon - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 8:18 pm:

“Blago Knows Best?” a rosy portrayal of Illinois political life with a full-size Elvis cardboard cut-out acting as Blago and Judy Baar-Topinka playing June Whitley acting as Margaret. A light-hearted film the entire family can enjoy as the patient and pragmatic Margaret (Judy) spends three hours trying to explain to Rod he can’t spend more than the State takes in. Title includes a question mark like the original audio to intimate that Blago’s role top guy in the State is dubious.

  67. - Anon - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 8:35 pm:

“Rudy” with Blago in the lead role because…well he wants to play make-believe as a Governor is known throughout the Country.

“Rudy II” with Blago in the lead role because…well, he wants to play make-believe that someone actually asked him to run for President.

  68. - Anon - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 8:47 pm:

“Illinois Sky” where Blago (played by Liberace) opts for the Lucid Dream that allows him to believe he’s still in office long after he loses his last election. Tech Support (cameos by various IL GOP leaders) keep popping into the Dream, however, trying to burst his Blago’s bubble.

  69. - Wumpus - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 8:51 pm:

Jason Lee..My name is Mayor Daley

  70. - Anon - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 8:58 pm:

Sorry…”burst Blago’s bubble” and I meant the dream, not the hairpiece.

  71. - Establishment Republican - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 9:36 pm:

Steve Carell was born to play Rod Blagojevich, and in order to capture the essence, he really would not have to deviate much from his Michael Scott persona.

I envision a two Governors with Presidential ambitions on a road trip movie along the lines of Dumb and Dumber co-starring Horatio Sanz as Bill Richardson.

  72. - Reformed - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 9:45 pm:

“Establishment Republican” has it right. The character already exists…Blago is Michael Scott. Just change the title from “The Office” to “The Governor’s Office”!
    I can’t stop laughing….

  73. - Gregor - Wednesday, Mar 26, 08 @ 9:52 pm:

I think we could go in a different direction. Make it a nature documentary, narrated by David Attenborough in that nasally English accent of his:

“The tousle–headed liarbird is a fascinating mimic; able to blend into its surroundings… whether it is a black church or farmyard or steelmill, nursing home or group of soccer moms… it blends in to become as one with its surroundings. Then, like the cunning predator it is, the liarbird captures the attention of it’s chosen prey with a dazzling display, evolved from the mating dance. Once the prey is thus dazzled and hypnotized, the Liarbird makes off with all the spoils it can carry. And off it migrates, flying many miles over and over from the far-flung areas of it’s elected territory, to it’s favorite nesting area, repeating it’s circle of life.

However, this unique species is now endangered. With massive over-exploitation of it’s native habitat, the liarbird has become a victim of its own rapacious, excessive success. And the threat from it’s predators; the low-lying weasels and sharp-eyed judiciars, is considerable. Prospects for the liarbird’s future, once bright, are now very much in doubt. Perhaps in the near future, it’s midwestern territory will no longer hear it’s distinctive squawks of nontax pledges and being for the people. Another species, the Lesser Quinn, stands ready to take over its ecological niche with a more subtle and sustainable lifestyle.

    ALIEN

    Rod is the Alien!

  77. - fedup dem - Thursday, Mar 27, 08 @ 8:59 am:

The movie should be titled “Gov. Sleazy.” and should star whoever wins the Razzie next year for Worst Actor in a Leading Role (as that would seem appropriate to me).

  78. - anonymiss - Thursday, Mar 27, 08 @ 9:18 am:

If the Bush movie is called “W,” the Rod movie has to be called “A”

  79. - so-called "Austin Mayor" - Thursday, Mar 27, 08 @ 12:18 pm:
