On a steel horse I ride…

Friday, Jan 23, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Seems appropriate….

“I play for keeps, ’cause I might not make it back”

[Hat tip to KFan]

* Zorn has been transcribing his little fingers off. The governor’s cowboy story

I like old movies and I like old cowboy movies, and I want to explain how these rules work in a more understandable way.

There was an old saying in the Old West, there was a cowboy who was charged with stealing a horse in town. And some of the other cowboys, especially the guy whose horse was stolen, were very unhappy with that guy.

One of the cowboy’s said, “Let’s hang him!”

And the other cowboy said, “Hold on! Before we hang him, lets first give him a fair trial. Then we’ll hang him.”

Under these rules, I’m not even getting a fair trial. They’re just hangin’ me.

And when they hang me under these rules that prevent due process. They’re hangin’ the 12 miillon people of Illinois who twice have elected a governor …

Under these rules rule 15f an Rule 8b , under that fact fact pattern I just gave you, if the cowboy who’s charged with stealin’ a horse was charged with doing that in town.

But in fact on the the date and time that he apparently stole the horse in town he was on the ranch with six other cowboys herdin’ cattle and ropin’ steers, and then he expects that when his day comes to go to court he can bring those six cowboys to say it wasn’t him because he wasn’t in town because he wasn’t in town, he was on the ranch herdin’ cattle.

Even if he could bring those cowboys in to say that, under these rules, under 8b, it wouldn’t’ matter. The complaint that charged him with stealing the horse would convict him. `Cause you can’t challenge it and you can’t have a chance to be able to contest it.

Again, not fair, in fact, worse,– trampling on constitutional rights.

A flat-out lie.

If he runs his life based on characters from movies & books, maybe he needs to be provided a new library.

He might not want to lean to hard on those 12 million people of Illinois since such bald-faced lies shows nothing but contempt for them (us).

Lets put this in a different way Governor…..
What you are doing is equivillent to a boxer in the ring in a match, NOT putting up a fight because you don’t agree with the rules. The result will end in a KNOCKOUT….YOURS.

his cowboy story sounds alot like the setup in one of eastwood’s best, hang’em high.

Do you suppose the gov evaded his nurse and got out of the house without taking his meds?

    The man is delusional.

So pathetic that it has come to this.

Resign and save us the time and money.

By the way Great Tune. It is interesting that you found the one from there BIG HAIR days?

I think he should bring in the show Branded starting Chuck Connors, he was thrown out of the Calvery only to fight for Justice for the people of the west.

And I thought the poetry was over the top. My Governor never ceases to amaze me. Remember the good old days when people used to make fun of Minnesota for electing Jesse the Body Ventura? Its sad when a former pro wrestler can govern the tights off a career politician.

the 64 dollar question, does the Goc actually beleive his own press, or does he just think we (the public) have so little intelligence that we will belevie it.

You would think he won each election by 12,000,000 votes? Nice spin….except when the representatives of those 12,000,000 vote to throw you out on your bleep, boots, hat, and all. Now all you have to look forward to is cowboying up to Buba in prison. Enjoy the ride cowboy!

  14. - Carl Nyberg - Friday, Jan 23, 09 @ 3:32 pm:

Blagojevich defends violating the Illinois Constitution by saying he achieved positive things.

Is there some portion of the Illinois Constitution that says the Governor is allowed to violate the Constitution if in his/her judgment it will lead to something positive?

What’s the point of a constitution if the chief executive can bypass it to achieve positive ends?

Blagojevich’s position doesn’t make sense. If he believes the ends justify the means and that the Illinois Constitution is a nicety that he can violate at will (if he thinks it will lead to something positive) then he should not be in office.

Oh my goodness - in his cowboy analogy he seems to be identifying with the steers they are roping. What’s become of his tes.virility?

  16. - Cogito - Friday, Jan 23, 09 @ 3:33 pm:

So does this mean that George Ryan could have used the defense, “But all the cowboys were doing it. That’s the way things are done in Sliver City!”

  17. - dupage dan - Friday, Jan 23, 09 @ 3:35 pm:

Blago took too long to get that coyboy bit out. I fell asleep after the rule 15 line. He shouldn’t count on the Lone Ranger coming in and save the day.

I feel a song coming on!

    Happy Trials To You

Music and Lyrics by Dale Evans, as performed by Rod Blagojevich

Happy trials to you, when the Senate begins.
Happy trials to you, keep lyin’ until then.
Who cares about the truth? - the GAs gangin’.
Just tell a story about a cowboy’s hangin’.
Happy trials to you, ’till you meet Rezko again.

    Some trials are fair ones,
    Impeachments are blue.
It’s the way you governed that counts,
So you got what’s comin’ to you.

Happy trials to you, the tapes reveal your sin.
Happy trials to you, keep sayin’ you’re our friend.
Who cares about the facts you are a-facing?
Just cling to that Oval Office dream you are a-chasin’.

Happy trials to you, ’till we lock you up my friend.

I can’t do it but who can organize a citizen demonstration to let the gov know that the citizens of Illinois no longer want him to be the governor.

Let me know when and where to show up and I will be glad to demonstrate to the governor that Illinois citizens who voted for him have changed their minds.

I am so glad I can say I voted for the woman for governor.

  23. - Little Egypt - Friday, Jan 23, 09 @ 4:24 pm:

Here’s a far more appropriate story for Blago, compliments of LE spouse:

There is an Indian legend, that tells a story of an Indian on top of a mountain.

It was very cold on top of the mountain and the Indian knew that he would freeze if he didn’t make it to the valley below. As he was walking, he came across a snake.

The snake was freezing to death. The snake said to the Indian, “Pleae carry me to the valley.” The Indian said, “No, you are a snake and you will bite me.” The snake said, “No, I won’t bite you if you help me. If you do not help me, I will bite.” The Indian said, “If you give me your word that you will not bite me, I will carry you to the valley.” The snake said, “I promise, I promise if you save my life, I will not bite you.”

So the Indian picked up the snake and put the snake inside his vest to keep the snake warm and to make it easier to carry the snake down the mountain.

When they reached the valley, the Indian took the snake out of his vest and laid him on the ground.

Then the snake bit the Indian. The Indian said, “You bit me and you gave me your word that you wouldn’t.”

The snake said, “You knew what I was when you picked me up.”

Sharong, because of the attention it would give Blago, he would call it an “UP” day.

  25. - You Go Boy - Friday, Jan 23, 09 @ 4:43 pm:

along with others references to Blazing Saddles, Blago’s presser is an extended “campfire scene”, the only difference being that the movie had honesty attached to it.

  26. - Lorne Greene - Friday, Jan 23, 09 @ 4:44 pm:

He lay face down in the desert sand
clutching a a quote book in his hand
Shot from behind I thought he was dead
for above his heart was an empty head
But a spark still burned so I used my knife
and late that night I saved the life of Blago

    (blaa-goooo…..)

I nursed him ’til the danger passed
the days went by; he mended fast
and then from dawn ’til setting sun
he practiced hitting up for sums
and hour and hour I watched in awe
No human being could shake down more
    than Blago.

One day we voted for who was best
A Judy went south and he went near-Northwest
I took to government and wore a star
while he spread terror near and far
with lies and cash he gained such fame
all through the state they feared the name
    of Blago.

I knew someday I’d face the test
which one of us would be the best
and sure enough the word came down
that he was holed up in Chi-town
I left the senate out on the street
and I went in alone to meet
    Blago

They said my FOIA was next to none
but my lightning draw had just begun
when I heard a PR blast that stunned my wrist
The FOIA went flying from my fist
and I was looking down the bore
of the of the press release gun, so adored
    by Blago

They say that was the only time
that anyone had seen him smile
He slowly wrote an MOU and then
he said to me “We’re even, friend.”
And so at last I thought I understood
that there was still a spark of good
    in Blago

Press blocked the path of his retreat
he turned and stepped into the street
an FBI man with cuffs appeared to greet
    A moment later
    he was dead meat

The state began to shout and cheer
Nowhere was there shed a tear
    for Blago

The story spread throughout the land
that I had beaten Blago’s hand
and it was just the years they say
that made me put my bills away
but on his tapes they can’t explain
the tarnished acts around the name
    of Blago.

In unrelated news, the formal war bonnet and beaded leather costume of the former U of I mascot has gone missing… witnesses saw a big-haired man with beady eyes running away with it, claiming he was Chief Illini-Whack.

… Hmm, I think I know what he’ll be wearing next time. Fits with the cowboy theme…

Randolph Scott, the Lone Ranger, and Tonto are on the way to save the gov. Even Nixon had the “grace” to go away. You cannot shame the shameless.

  33. - the concerned citizen - Saturday, Jan 24, 09 @ 4:11 pm:

Well….as I’ve said all along & for many years on this blog…what do you or did expect from Blago & this bunch. Never was there a finer bunch of of mis-fits & un-qualified people in charge. Took them {Dems} 25 yrs. to regain power & there you go !? Question now is how fast can they get him impeached & removed !? This has gone on far too long & Illinois continues suffer, to be a laughing stock & to be mocked on just about every media outlet. With all due respect, Blago is plain nuts. He’s so far out of it & just can’t seem to figure out it’s time to go. I’d think his mental state would come into question. Perhaps AG Madigan should re-visit that approach again. What does he really hope to accomplish ? PR firms, talk shows & the “View”. {???} The stability of the state, it’s governing , function & finances depends on him leaving office & soon. They have to circumvent the dude…to keep him under control. When your at “ground zero” anything has to be an improvement. I do hope the Senate moves post haste’.
