“The Mouth” speaks again

* The governor isn’t the only one with delusions of grandeur…
Speaking this morning at a Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast, the state’s new junior U.S. senator, Roland Burris said that without Burris’ own trailblazing, Barack Obama never would have been elected president.
“If there was no Martin Luther King Jr. and no Roland Burris, there would be no Barack Obama in the White House today,” Burris said to cheers at a Rainbow PUSH Coalition breakfast in Chicago. “We must recognize, friends, that we all stand on each other’s shoulders.”
* Meanwhile, another empty promise is shown to be exactly what it was…
The Canadian supplier of low-cost drugs to a much-touted program by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has dropped out, bemoaning the state’s “lip service” to its promotion.
Pegasus Health Services filled its last I-SaveRx prescription Dec. 30. Company official Lewis Jorgenson says the program cost Pegasus hundreds of thousands of dollars and “nothing happened” to promote it.
As of last summer, only 5,000 Illinoisans had participated in the plan to get lower-cost prescription drugs from Canada.

Glad to see you are keeping it in perspective Roland… Perhaps he will add that to the tomb. Precursor to President Obama

Introduce the Pegasus comment into the Senate proceedings as another nail in Blago’s coffin.

It is no surprise that Sen. Burris accredits himself, along with Martin Luther King Jr., for President Obama’s success. This is the same man who named his children Rolanda and Roland II.
- wordslinger - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 1:13 pm:
Who would win a Delusion-off between Burris and Blago?
- Amy - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 1:13 pm:
The national news media totally misses the Roland we see. they are so angry that Patterson did not appoint caroline kennedy that many say Blago looks better than patterson in his conduct.
and many are also taking a liking to Roland. astounding.
- chiatty - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 1:13 pm:
Roland Burris is an empty suit and he is one of the few living human beings who is unaware of that unassailable fact.

Amy, you’re stretching more than a bit, don’t you think?

===“We must recognize, friends, that we all stand on each other’s shoulders.”===
That’s a good point that he makes there, but Burris’ overall lack of public humility is annoying to say the least.

With the appointment of Burris, GRod has given us the gift that just keeps on giving…LOL
- VanillaMan - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 1:33 pm:
Let’s see, if someone were to stand on Burris’ shoulders, that would make them…
…still dependant on their own abilities to run for office.
Ya gonna have to turn that mausoleum into the next Taj Mahal to fit that guys’ head into it!
- lake county democrat - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 1:36 pm:
The King comparison is wack to the point of offensive, but the precedent of an African-American repeatedly winning statewide office in Illinois is at least worth a mention. The Obama-maker the national media has missed is Jeannie Simon.

Burris said to cheers at a Rainbow PUSH Coalition….
not all offended…
- sal-says - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 1:43 pm:
Great. Is there NO end to IL’s embarrasments?
- John - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 1:54 pm:
Uh…
I think the auditor general’s report prohibited the state from doing anything else to promote I-SaveRx.
Pegasus, to my knowledge, was the second vendor - they have only been doing it for the last year or so. So the program had pretty much been halted by then.
In the end, the State and vendors probably all ponied up about $750,000 + for launch the program.
According to reports, it has saved seniors about $5.5 million.
In the grand scheme of things, that is a VERY small benefit. IT had potential for more, but they never really put up the marketing money (as Pegasus says) to get it off the ground. But, it is a mixed bag - because that would have meant more state money and more related uproar.
I am sure those seniors who were saving 50%, 60% to 80% on their drugs are probably just happy that it was good while it lasted.

There are many people and events that led to Barack Obama being a viable candidate for U.S. Senate.
I think Burris contributed, but I think others were more important.
Fred Hampton/Edward Hanrahan
Harold Washington
Carol Moseley Braun
Ernie Banks, Walter Payton, Michael Jordan
Richard J. Daley and Richard M. Daley
Emil Jones

I lived to see men hanging from trees, racism/hate at it’s most and even Dr. King and Malcolm X among so many others. Burris is not like any of those great men, he is like other blacks who used their race and people for greed. Burris is a black wing nut and knows many people of all colors died for Obama to get where he is. Burris is just using his color to profit and use the race card which has played out. It is truely sad to see the old black wanna bes use Dr. King for their personal greed. But many people of all color follow Satan as he doesn’t discriminate. I hope the voters of Illinois are smarter and don’t allow a corrupt/wing nut get elected as he was appointed by another corrupt/wing nut the Govenor of Illinois. Now it will be interesting to see what the Govenor really expects from Burris for giving him the Senate Seat. As for Obama he represents all Americans, as Burris is on a black witch hunt and forgot many in his distect are not black, so who will represent them?
- Jake from Elwood - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 3:12 pm:
Martin Luther King Jr. bravely marched and fought for civil rights in the face of grave danger to his personal safety. Roland Burris jumped into the Centralia swimming pool. This is hardly analogous.
- Erickson - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 3:17 pm:
Isn’t it enough that we have a delusional governor? Now this…
Roland, what are you? 4′6″?? It would seem you’d have to stand on shoulders constantly…
- James the Intolerant - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 3:29 pm:
I hope Burriss is forced to debate in hie re-election bid and he’ll be shown to be the fool that he is.
- Arthur Andersen - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 3:58 pm:
to restate my favorite Burris quote…
“someday in Illinois Rod Blagojevich will make the license plates that will read Land of Burris.”
- wordslinger - Monday, Jan 26, 09 @ 4:51 pm:
Some clips just now on Channel 7 at some Operation PUSH function. Answers to reporters questions about Blago’s excellent adventure today:
Durbin: “If the governor has a defense, he should be making it in Springfield, not New York.”
Quinn: “The governor has an enormous capacity for self-pity and self-absorption.”
Lisa M:”He’s chosen this path and soon he’ll no longer be the governor.”
Burris: “It’s not for me to say what the governor should be doing.”
Question: “Do you have an opinion on what he’s doing?”
Burris: “I have no opinion.”
No need quite yet to chisel on the old headstone that Burris chapter in the revised “Profiles in Courage.”
