Adam explains why the lawyers quit in protest
Saturday, Jan 17, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller * Chicago lawyer Sam Adam, Jr. told CBS2 that the governor is “100 percent” on board with his attorneys’ decision not to represent him at the Senate’s impeachment trial…
* More from the CBS2 interview with Adam…
Yeah, well, woulda, coulda, shoulda. The Illinois Constitution is what it is, and the governor is sworn to uphold it, as is. Don’t do the crime, etc., etc. * Adam complained that he couldn’t call witnesses who were in the criminal complaint, which is true. The ruling was initially made by the House at the request of the US Attorney. Adam added that the governor shouldn’t be impeached for something that happened in a prior term, before he was reelected…
He has a point about that. Adam also complained about this Senate trial rule…
Adam said he ought to be able to challenge the acceptance of the House impeachment evidence. That’s not gonna ever happen. Also, keep in mind that these are the US Senate trial rules that ended up exonerating Bill Clinon. * More on why his lawyers quit in protest…

Saturday update
Saturday, Jan 17, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller * The Tribune has a quote from Senate President John Cullerton about the governor’s lawyers refusing to represent Blagojevich at the Senate impeachment trial…
I had some quotes from Cullerton for subscribers. They were about the same, but a bit harsher. More…
Kudos to the Tribune for getting this story exactly right. Ed Genson and Sam Adam have obviously been attempting to build a case to convince a federal judge that Blagojevich can’t get a fair trial, and believe resigning in protest will enhance that effort. * And here’s more on the Granberg IDNR appointment…
* I’m also hearing that Teamsters Joint Council 25 plans to endorse Rep. John Fritchey for the 5th Congressional District race next week. * Other stories/columns of note today…
