A new feature for the blog
Wednesday, Apr 1, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller * Both my intern Mike Murray and myself now have small video cameras and we hope to start posting videos regularly after the General Assembly returns from spring break. Right now, we’re still getting the hang of things. Here is a vid of today’s press conference by Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen. Not exactly earth shattering, but he apparently has been the kiss of death for at least some of the governors he meets. Beware, Pat Quinn… ![]() Any suggestions, including what sort of videos you’d like to see here?

Note to intern: Don’t laugh while the camera’s on.
lol

Blagos perp walk would be nice.
- Scooby - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 12:55 pm:
I don’t know which is scarier, that you’re walking around with a video camera or that Mike is.

I would like to see a closeup of some of our legislator’s noses as they talk, as surely some of them are growing!
- I-N-I - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 1:04 pm:
As much as I love Cheap Trick, I’m a little disappointed to see more coverage of Cheap Trick day than University of Illinois Day today… C’mon Miller!
- Rich Miller - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 1:05 pm:
U of I day? Really?
April Fools?
lol
- Presto - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 1:15 pm:
Wow, you are trusting Mike with a camera, I fear this may be the downfall of the capfax.

The perfect video would be of Milorad being put in his cell and the door slaming shut behind him. Hope you get an opportunity to shoot that soon.

Love it!
What about a weather cam posting on the day’s weather in Springfield? and one on the construction progress that is to be going on in Springfield?
- I-N-I - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 1:30 pm:
What, you mean the rapidly declining state support for an institution that pumps $13 billion into the state economy and provides more than 154,000 jobs here in Illinois is less newsworthy than a band with a drummer named Bun? I guess I should have known.
- Rich Miller - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 1:37 pm:
LOL.
Like I said, it’s just a test.

“…what sort of videos you’d like to see here?”
More Cheap Trick! Start with some vintage Budokan clips and keep ‘em coming!
- Wumpus - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 1:37 pm:
Mike, just don’t follow a senatorial candidate into the bathroom and fall for the ole Admiral Ackbar “It’s a trap” moment. I’d hate fro Rich to go the way of Jack!

Rep. Black yelling on the House floor. That is always entertaining, and great to get the blood pumping in the morning.
Do they allow cameras in the gallery?
- Pat Collins - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 2:22 pm:
Do they allow cameras in the gallery?
Given how small they are, can they realistically keep them out?
- Ahem - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 2:29 pm:
I’d like to see more exposé videos…knocking on doors…chasing down streets…that sort of thing. How about a hidden camera sting or two?
- VanillaMan - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 2:35 pm:
Seriously, I would like a video of each Illinois state representative and senator addressing some kind of issue we blog upon, and send greeting to Capitolfaxblog readers throughout the current term in office.
- Paul Richardson - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 2:46 pm:
Oh boy. I can only imagine what could’ve been memorialized forever if the cameras were around when I held the intern mantle (The Summer of Hell, aka GRT time). I miss those days terribly.
Considering so many days include a trip from the statehouse directly to Boone’s without dropping off equipment…

You can be Springfield’s version of Lilia Chacon or Bill O”Reilly’s “producer” that chases people down in their driveways and at the 7-11. Nothing like a tense video moment posted to a blog for all to see.
Seriously though, I think just putting faces and demeanor with the names and quotes we read here will add a lot to the content. I predict by 2011 we’ll see the “CapFax Rule” on the books banning video cameras from the chambers.

Note to self: Avoid Rich’s camera when working at the capitol.

Legislator’s responses to QOTDs where snark is heavily encouraged. Not only is there a possibility that it’ll separate the boy comedians from the men comedians, but expressions alone when asked the Q might be priceless.
If anyone can pull this one off, it’ll be Rich because of the great discretion he exercises in determining what to edit and publish.

And, if done properly by all, along with a little creativity, Rich might even be able to compile the snippets into a surreal Illinois version of K Street.
- Anonymous - Wednesday, Apr 1, 09 @ 9:29 pm:
Rich, just promise me that if you consider the Illinois version of K Street, you’ll let me audition for a role ala Mary Matalin’s character next to a D CapFax Blogger as outrageous as good ol’ Snakehead himself.
- Quinn T. Sential F/K/A Blago Sphere "TM" - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:00 am:
I would like some footage of Blago standing in front of the Spaceship Earth at Epcot Center tomorrow when the indictment comes down.
I then plan to amend my trademark registration of Blago Sphere “TM”, to include those images in future marketing efforts.
