Unsolicited advice

Thursday, Apr 2, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Dear Rep. Paul Froehlich,

If this story [fixed link] is true, and you jotted down a note on what appears to be a constituent services document about the campaign contribution you were gonna get, then you might want to consider lawyering up.

* Dear Lyons Village President David Visk,

I’m a salty talker myself in private conversations, but not nearly like this, or this or this. By the way, the defensiveness doesn’t help, either.

* Dear Ron Gidwitz,

The same might be said of your last campaign

“He can run the country,” says former Helene Curtis CEO Ron Gidwitz, pointing to Mr. Romney’s experience as a successful venture-capital executive and as the man who rescued the once-troubled Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002. “He just couldn’t run a campaign.”

Remember that $10 million resulting in ten percentage points in the 2006 GOP gubernatorial primary? Projection, perhaps?

* Dear Rod Blagojevich,

Enjoy Disney’s version of the “Tower of Terror” while you can. The real life version awaits.

Rich, how much would CapFax put forth for the official ride photo at Tower of Terror as Blago goes down — I’m thinking it has value just to see what happens to his hair!

  2. - bored now - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 1:52 pm:

maybe we can get a copy of the picture they take on the last fall of the tower of terror. i’d love to see blago’s face…

  3. - Concerned Observer - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 1:53 pm:

BTW, can’t get the Illinois Review article to work. But the document is…quite incriminating.

  4. - trafficmatt - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 1:55 pm:

I wonder if Mike Madigan is getting “buyer’s remorse” after convincing Froehlich to switch sides.

  5. - Smartone - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 1:58 pm:

I wonder if Froehlich is going to switch to the Republican party again?

  6. - Chicago Cynic - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 1:58 pm:

I think Homer sums up the Froehlich and Lyons township guys…”DOH!”

  7. - HearMeRoar - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 1:59 pm:

“Asked whether he would do things differently, Visk said, ‘If we had known we are going to be recorded, we wouldn’t talk like that.’” Wow, where have I heard that before?

  8. - VanillaMan - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:00 pm:

    Whew!
How long were you a Democrat before you did this stunt, Rep. Froehlich?

What did you write on the next page? “Shhh! Keep this quiet because it is illegal and if this ever got out, I’d have to resign in disgrace.”

  9. - He Makes Ryan Look Like a Saint - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:03 pm:

    Dear Senator Forby
It might be your life not ours, but if you insist on splattering your mellon on the pavement while riding your Fatboy, don’t make me and other taxpayers pay for your ongoing care while you are disabled. Have you ever seen a person after a severe head injury and the cost of ongoing care?

  10. - Anon - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:04 pm:

    Sing-A-Long:

    “It’s a small cell after all…”

  11. - Lurking rabbit - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:07 pm:

I’m waiting for an “I have sinned” letter of” omg I messed up and have to admit it” from Froelich. Which party can he run to now? Juicy!

  12. - VanillaMan - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:09 pm:

    Representative Froehlich,
Claim this was your initiation hazing when you joined Madigan’s party. Claim you were also wearing a hot pink bikini top when you wrote it out, and had Goldfish crackers stuffed up your nose.

It was just an ugly hazing stunt gone wrong.

  13. - VanillaMan - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:17 pm:

Village President David Visk said he inadvertently activated a recording device inside a Lyons police car when he was driving it to Chicago for a parade last summer. Trustee Richard Schuppe was the only other person in the car.

Well, they were alone - except for that really nasty-smelling flatulence that kept popping out of their mouths. Listen guys, they are still trying to get that foul odor out of that car, thankyouverymuch!

If you guys survive, remember to say these things only when wearing your white robes with the pointy hoods, as it helps keep the smell tampered down a bit.

  14. - Nort'sider - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:22 pm:

It’s always nice to see our politicians proving, at every level, that H.L. Mencken was spot-on when he said “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”

  15. - Boscobud - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:25 pm:

Paul I bet you wished you had a paper shredder.

  16. - VanillaMan - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:40 pm:

    For Mr. Ron Gidwitz
a song by Rick Springfield - a song better than money could buy…

    I Wish I Had Pat Quinn’s Job

    Pat Quinn is a friend,
    Yeah, I know he’s been
    A good friend of mine
    But lately something’s changed
    That ain’t hard to define
    Pat’s got himself a job
And I want to make it mine
Voter’s watching him with his budget
And he’s governing over that body,
    I just know it
Yeah ‘n’ he’s holding Mansion meetings late,
    Late at night

You know, I wish that I had Pat Quinn’s job,
I wish that I had Pat Quinn’s job
Where can I find an Office like that?
I play along with the charade,
there doesn’t seem to be a reason to change
You know, I feel so dirty
    When consultants start talking cute
I wanna spend Helene Curtis fortunes,
So the costs are probably moot
‘Cos voter’s watching him for reform
And Pat’s dealin’ with that lobby,
    I just know it
And he’s holding fundraisers late, late at night

    Like Pat Quinn’s job,
I wish that I had Pat Quinn’s job
Where can I find an Office,
Where can I find an Office like that?
And I’m lookin’ in the mirror all the time,
Wondering what voters don’t see in me
    I’ve been bi-partisan,
I’ve been cool with the lines
    Ain’t that the way
    Obama got to be
Tell me, where can I find an Office like that?

  18. - phocion - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:49 pm:

Thanks, VM. Now I can’t get that tune out of my head.

    Me neither

  20. - Deep South - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 2:52 pm:

Hey Sen. Forby - No helmets?…what about seat belts?…do we still gotta wear ‘em?

  21. - Boscobud - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 3:04 pm:

Someone please do another song. I can’t get that song out of my head. I guess its better than Barney’s “I Love You”

  23. - A Fed Up Lobbyist - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 3:12 pm:

And Paul Froehlich wants lobbyists to go through ethical training (HB3802)? Kind of reminds me of the old song by CCR and Eric Clapton “Before you accuse me take a look at yourself.” What a piece of work!

  24. - Anonymous45 - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 3:16 pm:

you guys hate that song cuz Rick Springfield did it…and the women go wild over him, but you must admit that it’s a great song both sexes can identify with…;)

  25. - soccermom - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 3:19 pm:

Boscobud — that was just cruel

  26. - Abe Froman - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 3:35 pm:

Sadly, because Froelich’s “alleged” corrupt acts do not involve anything more salacious than good old-fashioned graft, he’ll probably survive. In a state less overwhelmed by public corruption the press would be demanding his head on a plate and he’d be cleaning out his desk.

    V Man-Great ditty, as usual.

  27. - Easy - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 3:48 pm:

    Empty–
If they are stolen, does that mean Paul F. actually wrote the notes?

  28. - Phineas J. Whoopee - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 4:05 pm:

C’mon 45, that song was way up there on VHS 1’s top 100 worst songs of all time for a very good reason. Right next to Barbie Girl and Built this City on Rock and Roll.
Perfect for Van Man treatment though.

  29. - HV in HP - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 4:07 pm:

I think the only thing the Lyons guys regret is that their rant against Little Lipinski was aired and could cost them some federal support; No way they regret the racial stuff.

  30. - Vote Quimby! - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 4:09 pm:

    ==good old-fashioned graft==
Helping someone lower their property taxes (taking money away from police, firmen, teachers and school kids) and pocketing a percentage would look pretty damming on a campaign ad….

  31. - Take It Easy - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 5:44 pm:

Harris is cooperating with the feds.

If he left Daley in 2005, then there is still time before the statute of limitation expires.

Harris might bring both a governor and mayor down all by himself. Wow!

  32. - Anon3 - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 6:30 pm:

take it easy - yep maybe that’s why the Mayor has been so unhappy lately

  33. - wordslinger - Thursday, Apr 2, 09 @ 9:16 pm:

There’s been so much else going on, but perhaps we should throw the whole idea of an elected county assessor AND an elected board of review into the mix.

An innocent question as to why those positions should be elected brings nothing but laughter. We all know why they’re elected.

In reality, couldn’t a decent computer program do the assessing and a random administrative law judge handle appeals?
