A look ahead

* Hoo, boy…
Springfield staffer (and interim bureau chief) Dan Carden spotted a member of the House Democrat’s leadership team returning to his Springfield apartment with what appeared to be enough freshly dry-cleaned shirts to last the month.
Oof.
Special session starts tomorrow at 2 p.m.
How long will it last?
The Senate President has a news conference scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
Not unexpected. The tax hike vote will take place Wednesday, and without GOP votes it’s a goner.
* On a completely unrelated topic, I didn’t know David Hernandez, of Sports Webio infamy, looked so much like Gov. Quinn…
Heh.
Predictions?
…Adding… We’ve got our problems in Illinois, but at least we know where our governor is…
The whereabouts of [South Carolina] Gov. Mark Sanford have been unknown to state officials since Thursday, and some state leaders are questioning who is in charge of the executive office.
Neither the governor’s office nor the State Law Enforcement Division, which provides security for governors, has been able to reach Sanford after he left the mansion in a black SLED Suburban SUV, said Sen. Jake Knotts and three others familiar with the situation but who declined to be identified. […]
First lady Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press today her husband has been gone for several days and she doesn’t know where he is. […]
The governor’s office issued a statement Monday afternoon: “Gov. Sanford is taking some time away from the office this week to recharge after the stimulus battle and the legislative session, and to work on a couple of projects that have fallen by the wayside.
Bizarro.
…Adding more… They found him… sorta…
Sanford’s office told the lieutenant governor’s office Monday afternoon that Sanford has been reached and he is fine, said Frank Adams, head of Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer’s office on aging.

I predict frustration.

I think my Overtime in Hell T-shirt (that I am wearing today) is the right call for the next month.
- OneMan - Monday, Jun 22, 09 @ 2:43 pm:
Or to quote Mr T as Clubber Lang in Rocky III
What’s your prediction for the session…
‘Pain’

If only this could have happened to Blago for five years. Illinois would be better off.
- VanillaMan - Monday, Jun 22, 09 @ 3:17 pm:
Let’s get this party started, for crying out loud!
- Collin Hitt - Monday, Jun 22, 09 @ 3:24 pm:
Rest easy, Rich. A month’s worth of shirts will only get him through four days in this weather. Maybe five.
- Reformer - Monday, Jun 22, 09 @ 3:51 pm:
What is Quinn thinking in forcing another income tax vote that is doomed to defeat? What does he get out of it?
- siriusly - Monday, Jun 22, 09 @ 3:57 pm:
That’s a bad sign. Isn’t the real deadline July 16 or something like that?
I think its unfair for Madigan to get all the blame for the stall now. There are at least 8 Republican House members who are willing to vote for the tax increase now - (I’ve heard 1st and 2nd hand) - but Leader Cross is holding them back for who knows what.
- Arthur Andersen - Monday, Jun 22, 09 @ 3:58 pm:
Illinoisans should be so lucky.
Oops, let’s clarify that.
We should be as fortunate as the South Carolinians and have our Lite Gov scooby-doo outta state for awhile.
This heat is bad enough without daily updates from the Pat Quinn Whine and Cheese Tour of 2009.
As an aside, if AA was Gov of SC for a day, I would do something about the name of the state cops out there. “SLED” just doesn’t have the cachet that “FBI” or “DEA” has, especially when called out by a bunch of big fellows toting pistols and breaking down doors.
“SLED! Search Warrant! On the Ground, Now!”
“What? No, we don’t have a sled, we are SLED.”
“It means state police, dirtbag. Now where’s the weed?”

…The state shuts down in just over a week but the special session isn’t called til now?!
Turn off the air conditioning and get ‘er done.
- Seperated at Birth - Monday, Jun 22, 09 @ 4:03 pm:
Forget Hernandez. Quinn and Israeli President Benjamin Netenyahu were seperated at birth. Do a side-by-side!
- Truthful James - Monday, Jun 22, 09 @ 4:09 pm:
Shirts? Dry clean??
No wonder the Illinois government is so expensive
- Rich Miller - Monday, Jun 22, 09 @ 4:10 pm:
TJ, I think that’s more an ink-stained wretch who knows little about such things as laundered, pressed and starched vs. dry-cleaned shirts. lol

Max Gail from Barney Miller fame looks like the gov:

That Sanford story looks like it might be a keeper.
As much as we like celebrate out diversity, sometimes you have to admit, they roll a little differently down in Dixie.
Put it this way: for decades, North Carolina put Dean Smith and Jesse Helms on pedestals at the same time.
- Speaking at Will - Monday, Jun 22, 09 @ 9:58 pm:
LOL! The Benjamin Netinyahoo photos are a dead ringer for Quinn!
