* Runner-up goes to the Sam Adam, Jr., who talked to reporters after U.S. District Judge James Zagel set Rod Blagojevich’s trial date for June 3rd of next year…
Asked how the case is shaping up, including the expected addition of former Blagojevich chiefs of staff John Harris and Lon Monk as witnesses, defense lawyer Sam Adam Jr. said it changes little.
“(Blagojevich) was not guilty then, and he’s not guilty now,” Adam. said, calling it inevitable that such witnesses would line up against the former governor. “You can bring in Lon Monk, you can bring in anyone you want, his position is the same.”
Play it again, Sam - this trial will be great theater no matter how you play it.

I am glad the Gov clerified that for us, THanks.
Sam has sure drank the Kool-aid, Fitzy ought to ask for his disqualification due to the fact he helped Blago contact some of the Senate candidates, isn’t that a conflict of interest?
Tribune is reporting that Judge Zagel set Blago’s trial date for next June. Reinforcing my belief, that I have said here before, next year’s elections won’t primarily be about taxes - they will be about Blago.
Throw in a delay or two and the trial starts in August or September - bingo - prime time for election fodder.
This means the trial will be going on right in the heat of next year’s campaign season.

Reminds me of a time when I had a case just about to go trial in federal court. Husband and wife bank robbery/embezzlement case. A reporter asked my co-counsel and myself what are defense was. We both smiled a bit and my co-counsel said, “they didn’t do it.” Obviously, they were found guilty. LOL

Sam Adam Jr. is going to make this all so much fun. I don’t know what he aspires to outside of being an attorney, but he sure does love media attention (thankfully).
Sam Adams Jr. and Blago probably think that with Eric Holder in charge of DOJ what could go wrong? If Eric Holder could play ball on the Rosemont casino situation , why not with Blago? At least, that’s got to be the Blago mindset.
Remember, Rezko hasn’t even been sentenced yet. I assume there is more info to be had from him as well as prepping all the people who have rolled. Just keep saying to yourself, “he’s goin’ to prison, he’s goin’ to prison”. Done deal.

The look on the face of the guy that walks by Quinn about halfway through his answer is priceless. Looks like Sen. Righter but I don’t think it’s him. However, the “look” pretty well sums up how most folks feel about the Lite Guv at this point.
Was going to observe that when the Captain upgrades the video department, we’ll be able to see all the usual suspects in clear, crisp HD, but recalled the recent “Doonesbury” story line about how hideous ace TV reporter Roland Hedley’s mug looked in HD. One step at a time…
- How Ironic - Thursday, Jun 25, 09 @ 1:54 pm:
Hmmmm. So let me get this right. If no budget is passed we won’t have a budget?
Or did he mean if we don’t pass a budget, we don’t have a passed budget?
And I hope Sam forgets his “hot mike” A LOT during the trial.

Sam Adam. Not always a good decision.

I’m curious, was Quinn asked “what happens if we don’t have a budget”? If so the answer is just as bright as the question.
- Rich Miller - Thursday, Jun 25, 09 @ 2:18 pm:
co, the question was asked in the context of what he’d do with the service providers.

Does this mean the trial will be going at the same time as next year’s budget?
Good times. I suspect next year at this time will be total, total chaos. And pretty nasty.

It’s gonna take a year just to START the trial? Is there that much stuff to sift through?

And I can’t wait to see the 7th Circuit’s decision on the Adams’ appeal brief post-conviction. That will be one worth framing.
