Ninja fighters and reformers
Wednesday, Sep 2, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller * Congressman Mike Quigley (D-Chicago) was elected earlier this year as the reform candidate. Both city papers touted his reformer credentials over and over on their editorial pages. Well, those often over-the-top editorial boards would do well to pay attention to Quigley’s remarks yesterday when touting his endorsement of Rep. John Fritchey for Forrest Claypool’s county board seat. Watch it… You can’t fight everything and everyone on every single topic and demand total victory or nothing and then expect to win anything. ![]()

that is the quote of the year: a reformer isn’t a ninja fighter

You have to be joking — Quigley won that pathetic-turnout congressional campaign by claiming to be the lead ranter and raver on reform. Which is fine, but if he wants to take it back I have to ask: is Quigley’s reform record more “voice in the wilderness” than actual accomplishments? How many of those “reports on reform” Quigley touted during the Congressional race ever got enacted? Just what limits on patronage did Quigley successfuly champion to the chagrin of Todd Stroger?
Indeed, if that’s what you want — another decade of incrementalism (at best) of reform — take his advice. Don’t rant and rave, watch the kabuki of the entrenched powers pass swiss-cheese reform laws, and let the Blago/Ryan outrages fade into memory.

Oh-oh-oh-oh!
Oh-oh-oh-oh!
Oh-oh-oh-oh!
Oh-oh-oh-oh!
The Reformers are Ninja fighting, but those cats are unappetizing
Their results are often frightening, but they fight with political timing
There are funky Daley men from funky Chi-town
They are screwing things up, they are screwing opposition down
It’s an political Chicago art, right from the City’s start
Deceased voters who are stiff, just keep voting Democratic
There is political infighting, prosecutors on the verge of indicting
In fact it happens is frightening, but it’s fun to watch the back-biting
There is funky Quigley and tanned John Fritchey
They said, we fight The Toddler, who’s a corruption coddler
These Ninjas took a stand, started swaying with a hand
But on taxes they got whiffed, now Cook County is a sinking ship
The Democrats are now infighting, the polls show the races tightening
Illinois’ economy is totally frightening, we’re all screwed come tax-timing
Everybody is budget fighting, the books have been struck by lightning
In fact this shouldn’t be surprising, when the Democrats are tax-rising
Ninja fighting, now has to be faster than lightning!

Sidenote: an increase in ninja-related posts would be good for everyone, and probably the environment.
