Question of the day

Friday, Sep 11, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I’ve pretty much settled on a new look for this website. I should be rolling it out in a couple/three weeks.

* The Question: Is there anything - information, plug-ins, links, content, etc. - that is currently not on this website which you would like to see added?

Thanks much for your help.

    Comics.

  3. - Fan of CapFax - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 11:54 am:

Can’t wait to see the NEW Cap Fax! One thing I would like to see is a way to vote on a comment that I like. Thanks, Rich!

  4. - Rich Miller - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 11:54 am:

Political cartoons are tricky to post because of copyright. But I agree we should have more links to them.

  5. - MrJM - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 12:03 pm:

I meant find someone to do some in-house…

    Think BIG!

  12. - kenny - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 12:37 pm:

the horrible/awesome design of this website has always been one of my favorite parts

  13. - You Go Boy - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 12:38 pm:

In the interest of keeping government honest, beyond what Capitolfax already provides, how about a ‘whistleblowers’ section. I know such an idea will be hooted down by many, but pol’s and bureaucrats visit your site due to it’s credibility…let them know they are being watched. You pick up the mantle that newspaper conglomerates have dropped.

  14. - Ozzie - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 12:39 pm:

Make sure you keep the Sox news!!!

  15. - South of I-80 - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 12:44 pm:

Every thing was going good until Ozzie’s comment!
Great website and looking forward to your new one!
    (Even with the Sox stuff)

  16. - erstwhilesteve - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 12:46 pm:

A few more legislative links, if there’s room: a search for a particular legislator’s page, today’s calendar for each house. Thanks - looking forward to the new look!

  17. - Quacktastic - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 12:51 pm:

In honor of this Web site owners and several readers/ posters common hatred of the Cubs, would it be possible to get a smaller, less significant Cardinals RSS feed?

  18. - soccermom - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 12:53 pm:

a widget for my netvibes page would be nice

  19. - Small Town Liberal - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 12:55 pm:

While this doesn’t really address whats on the website, it would be sweet if there was a capfax iPhone app.

  20. - been there - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 1:00 pm:

i didn’t think you could do anything to improve it, but yes, i’d love to have links to political cartoons and comics.

  21. - Ned Racnad - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 1:09 pm:

Any chance of getting some sharks with fricking laser beams?

  22. - BIG R.PH. - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 1:09 pm:

Under the Sox feed how about a Cardinals feed?

Of course you can still ignore the Cubs!

  23. - Pat collins - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 1:29 pm:

You should list the news feeds in order based on some revenue sharing agreement. You send traffic their way, they should pay for that.

I wish there was a way to comment on multiple postings at once.

  24. - CLJ - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 1:45 pm:

Where’s the shop page at? I want to know where I can order my “Cap Fax” t-shirt, mouse pad, coffee mug, scarf, winter cap, bow tie…

  25. - Pot calling kettle - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 2:15 pm:

In addition to the GA Bill search, a short list of direct links to key bills. I know, there are a lot of “key” bills, but this could be the top ten from each chamber. Bills that are active, have a high potential impact, have been in the news a lot. We read the blog for your opinion, so we should take it in this case.

An alternative would be something akin to the morning shorts, where you list the top bills for the day with little (or no) comment other than that they made the list, and the thread remains open for readers to add bills they are watching. (ie. HB ### will be on its 3rd reading in the House today and is the primary vehicle for a sales tax on service.)

  26. - culebra26 - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 2:17 pm:

“The Capitol-Fax Doghouse”: Everyday State Legistlators can compete to be placed in the “proverbial” doghouse, decided by their moronic actions as deemed by you Rich. Put it way at the bottom of the blog, with a headshot of the said legistlator in the doorway.

  27. - Jake from Elwood - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 2:33 pm:

Link to a sample copy of the Capitol Fax so newcomers can see if they are willing to plunk down the $350.

  28. - RobRoy - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 2:34 pm:

Ned Rac, yes for one million dollars…

  29. - ChiefM - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 2:55 pm:

Current roster of candidates running for various offices

  30. - Rich Miller - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 2:56 pm:

ChiefM, I’m working on that one as I write this. Thanks.

  31. - Lefty Lefty - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 3:11 pm:

    A Vanilla Man Digest section.

  32. - cover - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 3:28 pm:

Thanks for the laugh, D.P. Gumby!

  33. - Dave - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 4:08 pm:

Daily/Weekly/Monthly pass for those that can’t afford the yearly one? Although that may get tricky when a Governor will make you give free subscriptions to Senior Citizens.

  34. - jt - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 4:10 pm:

    tom roeser blog

  35. - The Prophet - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 4:24 pm:

How about a weekly or bi-weekly straw poll on the current crop of gubernatorial candidates from now until the February Primary?
How about an Illinois Hall of Shame (or a link to same) for those politicians that Rich & his readers deem to be an embarassment to our state of Illinois and our citizens? We could cast our votes annually for those we feel deserve to be so honored.

  36. - Rich Miller - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 4:38 pm:

jt, Tom’s blog is part of the Blog newsfeed box on the right side of the page.

  37. - Third Generation Chicago Native - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 4:40 pm:

A section for who has thrown their hat into what office. e.g. a box for each CC Pres, Senate, etc. and pertinent news of whose in/out, new scandal cough, cough that might fill up the boxes each day.

  38. - Rubbernecker - Friday, Sep 11, 09 @ 7:44 pm:

How about a link to editorials from the larger dailies statewide?
