I say *meh* to the Rutherford ad. Not too slick. But then again, neither is the candidate who’s shtick is the ‘aw shucks’ variety of candidate who brags about staying at the Red Roof Inn on Facebook. The wallet thing is a decent hook though.

Not that it will matter since he’ll probably win in a walk. Between Rutherford & JBT, the GOP’s statewide firewall will be the two financial offices in the event that Brady & Kirk both tank.

Nice stump by the good Dr railing against Kilbride; too bad none of it was true. By the way Doc, don’t look down!…..you’re late for your country club tee time!

I give the Rutherford ad a B/B+. He comes across as very likable. He has the right stats in there to scare folks off. Given his current lead, I think it hits the right notes.

Simple commercial for Rutherford. Since down ballot races get less media coverage (save for the Capitol Fax) than other races, voters make decisions based on what they gather from commercials. Just look at Scott Lee Cohen from the Lt. Governors race.

Now, if Rich Whitney can capitalize on the “Rich Whitey” ballot snafu with some commercials…

Saw the Rutherford spot on WGN this morning. The satellite office copy point is pretty good. Given the office’s limited duties, any spot by any candidate is over the top. The treasurer can’t do anything about the deficit or really protect my wallet, whatever that means.

The wallet-waving is cheesy. And there’s some poor writing at the end. “…. we need a state treasurer that will protect your wallet. I’m Dan Rutherford, and I want to be state treasurer to protect your money.”

What happened to my wallet? Seriously, I can’t find it. Dan DID say that was my wallet….

Oh my god that JUSTPAC video my be the most dry and boring thing ever. Really awful.

  7. - The Shadow - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 12:14 pm:

That’s some good stumpin’ by the VP. Best line, “Pat, I think you inherited a worse mess then president and I.”

  8. - Responsa - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 12:23 pm:

Quinn and Biden– the logorrhea twins. Separated at birth?

  9. - Ozzie - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 12:36 pm:

The Doc is brutal….the country club background is funny….FORE!!!!!

  10. - the dark horse - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 12:36 pm:

Regarding the Kilbride ads, I will be as direct as possible: The radio ad is a full of so many F-ing lies that it makes my skin crawl. The video is so laughably bad (boring, dry, poorly produced) that I am curious what JUSTPAC expect to accomplish with it. These idiots have zero credibility and their not too smart either.

  11. - Team Sleep - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 12:42 pm:

I can’t watch an ad that’s over 35 seconds - it must that I’m one of those darned kids - so I watched Danimal’s ad and Kilbride’s ad. First, Rutherfor’ds ad was good but not great. But if he’s really putting that much cheese behind the buy, he could run an ad of him screaming “I’m Dan Rutherfod and I’m running for Treasurer!” and it would be effective in giving him name ID in a down ballot race that lacks the nastiness of the Radogno-Giannoulias tilt of 2006. Kilbride’s ad was nicely done. It’s simple and it highlights some very potent points that will reasonate in his district. I give Dan’s ad a “B-” and Kilbride’s ad an “A”.

  12. - Wizzard of Ozzie - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 12:48 pm:

Robin Kelly’s radio ad gets an F. It’s a minute long and her name is only mentioned twice (once in the opening and in the paid for tag line). That’s problem with doing the voiceover for your own radio ad, it’s hard for people to figure out who its for.

  13. - Nearly Normal - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 12:52 pm:

wonder boy, where have you been? That rumor has been ou there since 1992 when he first ran.

  14. - D.P. Gumby - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 1:01 pm:

will Murnane and company Justpac it in and go away. There lies and distortions are starting to make Mark Kirk like a truth teller!!

  15. - Team Sleep - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 1:50 pm:

I see Rich cleaned up this posting. Kudos, Rich!

  16. - zatoichi - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 2:20 pm:

Local TV commercials are basically nothing but political ads often with competitors booked next to each other. They all claim the other person is a self centered crook, but the ad’s person will fight to set things right. Great for TV ad sales, horrid for TV viewing. Time for a drink. Seeing a Dawn grease fighting ad may actually be interesting now.

  17. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 3:11 pm:

That’s the best JUSTPAC can do?

There is no Richard M. Phillis licensed to practice medicine in Illinois.

There is a Richard LEE Phillis licensed in Illinois, but he was disciplined for gross negligence.

What’s next, an ad featuring Tony Hayworth talking about how Kilbride is hurting gasoline prices because he wants to hold oil companies accountable?

  18. - get real - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 4:09 pm:

thank Rutherford ad is just awful. 1M behind it, you’d think they’d spend some $ for a non embarrassing production

  19. - 4 percent - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 5:49 pm:

Gotta agree with Get Real and I’m a Rutherford supporter. Most of his videos - whether its this one, You Tube or the cheesy birthday videos - seem cheap and goofy.

As they said in “The American President”, these are serious time and we need serious people….Take some time and make a REAL video.

  20. - Heartless Libertarian - Thursday, Oct 14, 10 @ 7:19 pm:

Why does Dan Rutherford have my wallet?
