Medical Marijuana fails by four in House
Thursday, Jan 6, 2011 - Posted by Rich Miller Posted by Barton Lorimor 5:32 p.m. Leader Lou Lang’s bill to legalize medical marijuana failed in the House by four votes. Here’s the board… This was final passage, so the bill is dead. It was put on Postponed Consideration earlier in the session.

AWWWWWW MAN… this really upsets me, i’m going to have to smoke a phatie to get over this huge let down. what is the world coming to, why isn’t pot free and available in supermarkets! thanks for ruining my year Barton… jeesh.

That is a shame. It should be up to the people to vote not the representatives. When will a new bill be introduced?

It’ll come in time, probably a very short time. When it does, it will be one of those issues where we won’t be able to remember what the big deal was, like mandatory seatbelts, banning smoking on planes and indoors, and civil unions.
Still, my guess is that Willie Nelson and Pat Robertson will probably be going for their next wellness checks in CA or CO.

I don’t have a preference on medical marijuana - but out of curiosity - does anyone know an approximate amount of money brought in from a tobacco tax in IL?
If marijuana was legal and taxed - it seems that would go a long way to help pay down the states debt.
Full Disclosure - i have NEVER smoked pot in my life and actually despise it’s use - but i also see the revenue benefit to it since people are doing it anyway. not to mention - think of the savings associated with the prison system and putting pot dealers in jail… seems like a win/win to me
