Expect tightened security

* Security will be intensified in Springfield during Inauguration events because of the recent assassination attempt of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords…
Illinois State Police will pay particular attention to people attending Illinois inaugural events Sunday and Monday in the wake of Saturday’s shootings of a U.S. representative and others in Tucson, Ariz.
“We’re going to have a good number of officers, other initiatives and devices that will help make sure the governor and other dignitaries are safe,” State Police Sgt. Ken Guard said.
State police policy is not to disclose particular safety measures that will be in place.
“We’ve already taken specific precautions,” he said. “We’re aware of what’s going on in the news today.”
Expect metal detectors at the Prairie Capital Convention Center, the site of the swearing-in and the governor’s Inaugural Ball. If you’re going to either, you might want to arrive early.
No comments because I just don’t have the stomach for that today.
