In case you were wondering…

Tuesday, Jun 28, 2011 - Posted by Rich Miller

* We just barely missed setting a new page-view record yesterday, coming up just barely short of Rod Blagojevich’s arrest day. One reason is our new ScribbleLive software, which doesn’t require reloading the page to see updates. Without that, I’m confident we would’ve easily surpassed that crazy December day in 2008 when we were knocked offline for what seemed like an eternity.

Some folks had difficulty accessing the blog yesterday, particularly just as the jury verdict was read. Site speed did slow down quite a bit, but at least we weren’t knocked completely offline like the Sun-Times, WBEZ and others were. And if you were already on the page and watching the ScribbleLive feed, you didn’t notice a thing.

Anyway, I thought you’d like to know.

The ScribbleLive Feed is really a nice feature, and I was so amusing to be reading it and listening to the same words coming out of the mouth of the WBEZ guy.

    Did something happen yesterday?

  3. - Todd - Tuesday, Jun 28, 11 @ 9:01 am:

I was at the airport in the Bahamas when I got a call about the verdinct coming out. I follwed it on my ipad at the Miami airport, while listening to WLS and watching CNN at the gate. This blog was faster with info than both WLS and CNN.

I was telling my wife what was happeneing and she said “how do you know, they havn’t said a word on the TV?”

The twitter feeds and all kept it up to the minute and when the aircrew asked what was going on I got to tell them for the flight back to Chicago.

Nice job Rich. to bad some other media types don’t look at your model.

    it’s got to be 5 o’clock somewhere……..

  4. - Skeeter - Tuesday, Jun 28, 11 @ 9:27 am:

What amazed me yesterday was that the comments did not go south.

I expected a lot of people new to the site to be on posting rants. Instead, the comments were the usual for this site. That was nice.

the color provided by state employees was great for those of us who were not there during that time. it’s kind of amazing if you look at other political sites that you haven’t gotten the trash comments the other ones get constantly.

Kudos. When I’m at home and/or on a personal machine, I can view that nice little feature. But unfortunately, my employer restricts most social media and scribblelive seems to fall in that category. Therefore, I got all of my news elsewhere yesterday, though i would’ve preferred it here. That may be another reason the page hits didn’t top the record

To put it bluntly, ScribbleLive Rocks! add it the second new and approved site you may someday put up..

  8. - South Side Mike - Tuesday, Jun 28, 11 @ 1:36 pm:

    Rich,

As is often said but is still not said enough, congratulations on the hits and kudos.

There’s a reason people keep coming back here, even when they disagree with your positions, and it’s because of the breadth and depth of the posts and the comments. You’ve carved a nice little niche on the world wide web here.

===my employer restricts most social media and scribblelive seems to fall in that category===

So, did you just see a blank page?

  10. - STL Reader - Tuesday, Jun 28, 11 @ 5:17 pm:

My employer restricts it too. In our case it showed “Access Denied” in a box the shape of the feed. Everything else on the site works fine though.

  11. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Jun 28, 11 @ 5:21 pm:

Do you have a private or public employer? Also, did you try clicking on the link to see if that worked?

  12. - STL Reader - Wednesday, Jun 29, 11 @ 5:56 pm:

    Rich,
It is a private institution. I didn’t try the link.

  13. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Jun 29, 11 @ 6:32 pm:

Well, could you please try the link when you’re at work tomorrow? Thanks.

    Rich,
I tried it. It is blocked as well.
