I think Rhodes does a pretty good job of skewering the local media as well as the political spin that’s on every story coming out of City Hall. Is he a little too self-righteous? Yes, but there aren’t enough people willing to look past the easy story and get to what really matters. Once you start, you can’t stop. I read everything and anything I can on Blackhawk, Shabbona, The Blackhawk War, Jane Addams, Lincoln, Grant, Sheridan, the Civil War and Reagan in Illinois and Iowa. I’m currently on a quest to find if there were ever any writings or written accounts of conversation between Lincoln and John Quincy Adams. They were House colleagues for a short time (Adams dropped dead objecting to the Mexican-American War in the House; Lincoln also famously opposed the war in a House speech). If someone can help a brother out, I’d be much obliged. Out of the blue, I recently read the Spoon River Anthology online. I was blown away.
