Question of the day

Tuesday, Oct 16, 2012 - Posted by Rich Miller

* This arrived in my e-mail earlier today…

New Poll Shows Romano in close battle with 26 year incumbent Lang

Could it be? Could Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie) really be in trouble?

* Not so much…

In a poll conducting by Victory Media Group of Glenview from October 9-11, challenger Vince Romano scored 44.2% of the vote to 26-year incumbent Democrat Lou Lang’s 55.8%.

OK, so Lang is well over 50. And the pollster isn’t a pollster.

* But it gets better. Check out the questions the pollster asked…

* 16th District State Representative Lou Lang has been in office for 25 years– since 1987. Last year he joined 59 Democrats and zero Republicans to pass a 67% tax increase on personal income and 46% tax increase on business income. Knowing this…

Less/More Likely to Vote for Lou Lang

Less Likely 57.5
More Likely 17.9
No Difference 24.6

* If the election for your State Representative were held today between 25 year incumbent Democrat Lou Lang and Republican businessman Vincent Romano, who opposes tax increases and will vote to repeal them if elected.

Lou Lang 55.8
Vincent Romano 44.2

* The Question: Could you come up with a more lopsided set of poll questions?

Snark, of course, is heavily encouraged.

…Adding… Your answer doesn’t have to be about Lou Lang, unless you really want to, of course.

Would you be more or less likely to vote for Lou Lang if you knew that he was hiding Barack Obama’s real Kenyan birth certificate?

  2. - Empty Chair - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 1:45 pm:

Was the second question really worded like that? It technically isn’t a complete sentence, and doesn’t end in a question mark.

  3. - Montrose - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 1:51 pm:

Rep. Lou Lang personally hates you and your family. He told me so. Knowing this, are less/more likely to vote for Lou Lang?

  4. - Lou Lang Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 1:51 pm:

I hope this guy shared these results with Tom Cross. I can hear all the tires screeching in the direction of Plainfield. The Cross HRO braintrust must be in super secret meetings RIGHT NOW recalculating how much money they can put into this race… I knew MJM was out to screw my dad with this new map!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. - OneMan - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 1:56 pm:

Lou Lang wants your husband to gamble all of your money away and have him run off with a showgirl…

If you heard that Loug Lang and Rod Blagovich were actually the same person would you still vote for him

  6. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 1:59 pm:

I should’ve mentioned this up top, but there’s no requirement that the polling question be about Lou, although these are pretty darned funny.

  7. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 2:00 pm:

EC, that’s what they sent me.

  8. - Lou Lang Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 2:04 pm:

Q; Lou Lang has voted for every tax increase the last 20 years, and he is a loyal follower of the Trib’s mortal enemy Mike Madigan. Knowing this would you vote for him?
Oh> never mind I guess that question isnt really snark.

  9. - Colossus - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 2:04 pm:

The candidate who paid for this poll is a swell guy, while his opponent has never publicly opposed the Soylent Green company. Will you be voting for the swell guy, or the cannibal this November?

  10. - How Ironic - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 2:08 pm:

Pollster: Although we have no evidence to suggest that candidate “X” is a habitual wife-beater, if he were…would you be less likely to vote for him?

While Mitt Romney tied dogs to the roof of his car, Lou Lang actually beat puppies. And he taped his kids to the bed with duct tape and didn’t feed them unless they got straight As.

Are you more or less likely to vote for the child abusing, puppy beating Lou Lang?

  13. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 2:17 pm:

Betting against Lou Lang would be like betting against Man O War. I would bet Lou bet on Man O War, he’s certianly old enough.

  21. - Skeeter - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 3:09 pm:

Joe Walsh owns just a few suits, they are different colors, and he purchased them with his own money. For most of her adult life, Tammy Duckworth had her friends in Big Government spend your tax dollars buying her countless suits all of the same color.

If the election were held today, and knowing that Tammy Duckworth wants to waste your tax dollar buying her nearly identical outfits while Joe Walsh buys his own clothes, are voting for:

    a) Joe Walsh; or
    b) Tammy Duckworth.

  24. - huh - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 4:53 pm:

Would you be more or less likely to vote for Lou Lang after discovering he drinks mudslides and other girly drinks?

  27. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 8:30 pm:

    M3, thanks for the snark.

If I ever get a goofy “poll” like that from a liberal, you can rest assured that I’ll post it as well. This sort of stuff is just too fun to pass up, man.

  28. - Third Reading - Tuesday, Oct 16, 12 @ 11:00 pm:

Well, it’s not a loaded poll question, but — let’s take a little trip down memory lane, shall we?

Sherman, set the Wayback Machine for the year 2008.

This proposal deals with a call for a state constitutional convention. The last such convention was held in 1969-70, and a new Constitution was adopted in 1970. The 1970 Illinois Constitution requires that the question of calling a convention be placed before the voters every 20 years. In 1988 electors rejected the call for a constitutional convention, with 75% voting against calling a convention and 25% voting in favor of calling a convention. If you believe the 1970 Illinois Constitution needs to be revised through the convention process, vote “YES” on the question of calling a constitutional convention. If you believe that a constitutional convention is not necessary, or that changes can be accomplished through other means, vote “NO” on the calling of a constitutional convention.

    The foregoing ballot question is:

    A. Incredible.
    B. Preposterous.
    C. You mean I’m supposed to vote against this, right?
    D. Outrageous.
    E. True.
    F. All of the above.

The correct answer is - EEEEEENK! - F, all of the above.

    I’m outta here.
