    A female Pope?

  8. - Demoralized - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 9:20 am:

Funny! I wonder if Madigan is on the list for Pope? Technically, any Catholic male can become Pope.

Walkinfool for the win. Funny because it’s true.

  11. - Tommydanger - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 9:29 am:

Stantis and Kass could open a tea bag saloon. Don’t see much humor in it myself. Lisa has done a good job by most anyone’s calculations. To portray her as nothing more than a little girl is a classless gesture on Stantis’ part.

  12. - Joe from Joliet - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 9:30 am:

C’mon along, Lisa honey. We have to try and show everyone how independent you are.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 9:32 am:

    - Tommydanger -,

    To that point …

You have to have a funny/clever/smart cartoon to have a good caption.

There is none of that there.

All the things to mock about MJM or Lisa you go “little girl” and Mock Catholics?

    Disappointing.

  14. - Wumpus - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 9:39 am:

Is Lisa Madigan going to be the next Gov of IL?

Is the Pope an (Irish, female, pro-choice, Married) Catholic?

  18. - How Ironic - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 9:50 am:

Yes, this will certainly appeal to those voters who already feel the GOP is Anti-Women. Speaks volumes.

Who is that Mike Madigan to expect that his daughter can be her own successful person? She should know better and stay home to darn socks and do knitting.

  19. - Publius - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 9:54 am:

We think this is the same “strategy” employed by John Schmidt and Brickhead Joe. (Gosh it is great to type that name again) We notice how well that worked for them
Wonder how the Tribbies portray Counsin Brucey and his hire Stu Levine —- keep it clean, avoid the purple hotel

That has got to be the very best political cartoon that I have ever seen!!! It deserves a better caption than I can come up with.

Dunno if that is/was a caption, but its a “winner”, given this Dopey cartoon.

    Well said.

“Yes, Lisa. I, Michael the Infallible, have it from high authority that you are meant to lead Illinois.”

  41. - rEDRUM - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 11:13 am:

Portraing Attroney General Lisa Madigan as an unqualified “little girl” appears sexist to me. The Tribune should be ashamed of itself!

Pope Madigan I’s new Papal Bull -
I.) Illinois government’s incompetence is caused by Immaculate Corruption.

II.) His power is the Alpha and Omega.

III.) Quinn is now St. Quinn of Assinine due to his performed miracle of delivering State of State speech in English, kinda English and Esperanto at the same time.

IV.) Dick of Durbin is new Senator for Life.

V.) The Republicans are the Party of the Unclean.

VI.) Rob Blagojevich was a lapdog for Satan.

VII.) As were the previous two Democratic governors.

VIII.) Rahm Emanuel has cloven hooves.

IV.) We need cash fast, so how about some bond lovin’ ASAP?

  44. - CircularFiringSquad - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 11:33 am:

Tribune ashamed…of itself? That’s rich. Apparently rEDRUM you are not a regular reader of what is left of a once powerful, then bakrupt and now on the block product
This cartoon will get more attention on Capt. Fax’s than the paper itself

  45. - So. ILL - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 11:33 am:

Sexist trash. Plenty of good points to make about the issue of nepotism, etc. without making a cartoon out of Lisa’s sex. Reeks of small minded gender bias and deep dark jealousy.

  46. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 11:35 am:

Pope Madigan I’s Papal Bull regarding meatless Fridays - Asian Carp makes for a tasty treat when flash fried with arugula and ginger.

  47. - Huh? - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 11:35 am:

I used to belong to a fraternal organization where there was an unwritten ban on conversations about politics and religion. Principly because these are two topics that generate the most conflict.

So here on the CapFax blog, the two most deadly topics of conversation have managed to intersect. So interest of keeping the peace, please lighten up.

That being said, train111’s comment has my chuckle vote.

  49. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 11:48 am:

Madigan is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He maketh me collect green paper: he leadeth me into political waters.

He selleth my soul: he leadeth me under the Dome for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I begin as a ducking in the valley of the shadow of campaigns, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy apple and thy staff they comfort me and turn me into a mushroom.

Thou preparest an office for me in the presence of GOP enemies: thou anointest my head with contributions; my funding runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the General Assembly forever.

  50. - B Brady - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 11:52 am:

I think its funny, insulting, and appropriate, but I will abstain from any votes for it.

  51. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 11:57 am:

Don’t worry about it Lisa, the self-annointed liberal righteous have no sense of humor regarding themselves so they won’t laugh and they’ll attack anyone who does!

  57. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:08 pm:

  58. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:11 pm:

Where does it say that I can’t make Lisa a pope? You obviously haven’t read the new book I added - The Book of Michael J. Madigan, right after Revelations!

  59. - Wumpus - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:11 pm:

If you are going to be offended by this, go swim at north avenue beach on a 90 degree day a few days after a Milwaukee thunderstorm.

“Six hundred years as speaker is enough for me Lisa. I’ll resign so you can be Governor.”

  61. - Professor Xavier - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:15 pm:

It’s classless, chauvinistic, and as demented as the time Blago panned Lisa because she had the audacity to oppose his proposed sale of the JRT.

I’m sure Kass and Co. and the Madigan haters are giggling like schoolyard scamps over this little drawing. To be expected from the Tribbies and their ilk. But the thing is, if Lisa Madigan does in fact decide to run for governor, she’ll be getting the last laugh.

  62. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:15 pm:

Folks, I just want you to know that if you work hard in school, get good grades, attend the best universities, get good grades, work hard for the people of Illinois and get elected, get good reviews, then you too can be elected as a governor - until one of my kids wants to be governor - then no.

  63. - train111 - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:16 pm:

If political cartoonists were absolutely PC,there wouldn’t be any cartoons.Get over it.

  66. - Votecounter - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:22 pm:

    Look White Smoke!!!

  67. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:25 pm:

    I posted …

===you go “little girl” and Mock Catholics?===

    I said it was disappointing.

A political cartoon is, what it is. This one isn’t very funny/clever/smart, but that is for everyone to judge for themselves.

You up to 20 yet, VMan?

  68. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:33 pm:

How is this sexist (just because it depicts Madigan’s child as a child)? Would everyone have their PC undies in a bunch if MJM had a son who was an Atty General considering a run for Gov and the cartoon showed MJM holding the hand of his son. It may not be the most funny cartoon, but sexist…give me a break. It just about nepotism in politics (which we in Chicago have embraced with the Daley, Stroger, Burke, etc. familes). Lets not drag gender into it though.

Anon @ 10:38 said it best with the Lion king line!

  69. - Knome Sane - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:33 pm:

I am not upset by the religious aspect, nor the lame, beat-to-death “Daddy/Daughter” dig. I am more disappointed because it’s neither funny nor thought provoking.

Stantis is as lame as Kass is un-original. There must be a sink-hole underneath the Tribune Tower, sucking the life and originality from any and all who work there.

  70. - Geneva Guy - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:37 pm:

Sexist? That dog don’t hunt. The satire is directed at how Illinois fosters a culture of unexamined political nepotism. If the cartoon showed Blago, Todd Stroger, Rich Daley, Dan Hynes or JJJ in a sailor suit, would anyone mix gender politics into this?

  71. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:39 pm:

If Lisa was “Johnny”, I would have posted…

===you go “little boy” and Mock Catholics?===

Gender really wasn’t what I thought was not funny, it was that the 3 Term AG as a Child, in a Catholic mocking.

    It is, what it is.

  72. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:40 pm:

Gotta go “Pay my income taxes”…

Can’t wait to see how this all unfolds later.

  73. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 12:43 pm:

    ===culture of unexamined political nepotism===

You must be new to Illinois. It’s been “examined” to death. For decades.

The pope and the rabbi, in costume, trick or treat at the TRS = “It’s okay baby the fix is in”.

  75. - Boone Logan Square - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 1:09 pm:

Cartoonist jobs in newspapers are dwindling like water in Nevada, yet Stantis has a job??

  76. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 1:15 pm:

I fail to see the humor in mocking religion, and old AA can laugh at about anything.

Of course, it’s also not funny when various hired stooges drag in the names of people who have nothing to do with this cartoon.

  77. - Fed up - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 1:20 pm:

I wonder if the Trib would dare to put a Mohammed cartoon in the paper.

  78. - Esquire - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 1:46 pm:

The audition for the HBO miniseries “The Borgias” drew some interesting performers.

  79. - Jake From Elwood - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 2:11 pm:

Madigan probably has more power over his faithful House members than the pontiff has over most Catholics so the comparison is apt.
And I am a Catholic so don’t accuse me of Catholic-bashing. Self-loathing, perhaps.

  80. - Anonymoose - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 2:22 pm:

“Watch for a lil’ puff o’ smoke and mirrors, voilà, a “new” leader for the flock.”

The drawing is caricature and perhaps a bit tasteless, but the stuff of which cartoons are made….I’d be drawn with no morals, no brains, no refinement and a huge gut:)

  81. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Mar 12, 13 @ 2:55 pm:

OK. We got you in as the first Illinois woman attorney general. Would you like to be the first woman pope? Or should we settle for first woman Illinois governor? Or should we go straight for first woman U.S. president? Hilary’s looking kinda tired.
