Wednesday, Jun 12, 2013 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From a press release…

Schillerstrom said he can best contribute to the state through the fiscal office, using his executive experience to maximize investments and keep spending flat. As County Board Chairman, Schillerstrom consistently delivered balanced budgets and cut property taxes while maintaining a AAA bond rating.

That is a pretty hefty committee. While big wigs sometimes don’t translate into votes, it’s clear that opinion leaders in the party are on board and Bob’s been doing his homework.

His Gov candidacy never got any traction but this time around he’s definitely in the pole position.

What Adam Smith said… that’s an impressive committee.

This will be a fun one to watch between him and Frerichs.

Wow, if only one of our Gov. candidates had this momentum.

The Return Of The King! I love when republicans go on about balanced budgets and lowering taxes, like if they say it enough it magically becomes true.

  6. - Kana - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 11:18 am:

I think some of the Gov candidates would be happy w/ that list. Pretty impressed with it, particularly Gidwitz and Baise. They were hardcore Dillard guys and didn’t love Schillerstrom during that. Guess they mended fences.

For a moderate, he even has some good right-winger support- Lauzen & Balich- and downstaters. Good start for him.

  7. - Fromrightfield - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 11:20 am:

If the political base is behind him, his money base from the chairman years will probably be there too. Going to be an expensive race if Ferichs is the nominee. Bob did it as chairman, he’ll have to do it again here.

==I love when republicans go on about balanced budgets and lowering taxes, like if they say it enough it magically becomes true.==

DanL60- Maybe you missed the part that says “delivered”, meaning did those things. I’m sure some Dems think balanced budgets and lower taxes are fantasies, but they actually exist in a lot of places that don’t spend more money than they have and don’t take more money than they need.

Bob will not be alone on the ballot in march, but he is off to a good start.

=• Ryan Stookey; Stookey Township Trustee=

Where is “Stookey Township” and if the Township is named after you, wouldn’t you be the Supervisor?

  12. - David P. Graf - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 11:35 am:

Anyone running for Treasurer ought to have enough sense not to put someone like the budget-busting Dennis Hastert at the top of his list of supporters.

  13. - "Edge" - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 11:39 am:

Ya, like the State Treasurer has anything to do about approving a State Budget; ha. So in foru year’s it’ll be Bob for Gov.

  14. - come on - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 12:07 pm:

Bob certainly won’t be alone and he I highly doubt he will have a smooth sailing campaign. He pretty much skated through the Governor race because they knew he was a non factor. This is probably more of him just trying to retire the debt he incurred during that dismal performance.

  15. - CircularFiringSquad - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 12:18 pm:

Is Brickhead Joe not available because his spot on the bench…how about Guido Botti and Vondra?

looks like a golden oldies lineup of favorites from the past. but just right for a mid level race.

Mike Frerichs is running on D side for Treasurer. i like his chances better than Bob S…if you met them both you would know what I mean

Say what you want about the Republicans, but they’ve run DuPage for as long as anyone here has been alive, and it runs pretty well. If the rest of the state ran as well, we would be rejoicing instead of swearing.

You and I are on the same page here; and I thought the same thing.

Talk about politics as a family business. It looks like perhaps they bought their own island.

  20. - Formerly Known As... - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 12:44 pm:

Careful folks. Sounds like there is a “SchillerSTORM” brewing.

    Couldn’t help myself.

What is Shcillerstorm’s email address? His website doesn’t tell what it is.

Rolando Cruz would probably disagree, but that’s just one man’s opinion.

  23. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 2:01 pm:

Frerichs is not the only D. Mike Cabonargi’s been doing great work in Cook County.

  24. - shore - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 2:03 pm:

He seemed incredibly unstable the last time he ran.

  25. - low level - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 2:24 pm:

Maybe NOW the media will focus on the DuPage Republicon Machine.

Not gonna hold my breath, though.

  26. - titan - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 2:55 pm:

@wordslinger - I certainly didn’t say flawlessly. And DuPage has not had any sort of monopoly on police/prosecutor misconduct (which has been a very bipartisan flaw in Illinis through the years).

  27. - Jake From Elwood - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 3:26 pm:

Knew Smilin’ Bob was gearing up for something…now we know what.
    And the world yawned.

  28. - Big Muddy - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 3:53 pm:

Is this what Bob wants to be when he grows up? I thought it was Governor…
Good list of who’s who but he is still just another tax and spend Republican… who just happens to fit into all of Pate’s old suits!

  29. - more of the same - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 5:18 pm:

I think this group of 50 will be thoroughly embarrassed when the real Bob, his record and true colors show up - this is going to be fun to watch. He should have stayed with the little law firm making money off the property tax appeals, which btw the appointed the board members - just love dupagee.. Also how come he didn’t put Glennon, Reyes, Wymna or Vondra on his list this time?

  30. - GOP Hope - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 5:34 pm:

That is a dream endorsement list for any Illinois Republican candidate. He has Tea Party members and moderates. More importantly, it looks like he has money lined up. Clearly Bob learned a thing or two from last time.

  31. - more of the same - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 5:48 pm:

hearing a few of these folks didn’t endorse him or approve of using their name and are not happy about it. Not the best way to start the campaign.

  32. - Lost In Chicago - Wednesday, Jun 12, 13 @ 7:02 pm:

Hey! Open seat! Let’s go for this one! I can assure you that none of these folks on either side have the first clue to what the role of the state treasurer is. Get ready to listen to sound bites for the next 18 months having nothing to do with the office.

  33. - IN THE KNOW - Thursday, Jun 13, 13 @ 6:02 am:

I heard, Tom Cronin, brother of Dan Cronin, will be running, don’t know how true.

  34. - Right Field - Thursday, Jun 13, 13 @ 9:58 pm:

More of the same - I’m hearing the same thing about some of those on the list not supporting him. Let’s see how many names fall off and/or move to Bob Grogan’s list.
