*** UPDATED x1 *** Another computer glitch
Tuesday, Nov 5, 2013 - Posted by Rich Miller * I received a weird e-mail yesterday afternoon with the subject: “Election Day is tomorrow”…
Others received an e-mail with the subject line “Election Day in Illinois.” The e-mail was paid for by the Democratic National Committee. * If you click on the link, you’ll see that they don’t actually have Illinois listed as a state with an election day. So something must be messed up with President Obama’s computer system. Gee, I wonder where I’ve heard that before? *** UPDATE *** I just received an e-mail from the DNC with the subject line: “Correction”…
How come Barack didn’t sign that one? Heh.

Early and often, its the Chicago way.
Though it’s a little early for next fall.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 5, 13 @ 8:43 am:
“Dear Rich,
Spring is upon us, so don’t forget to turn your clock forward this coming weekend.
Signed,
The ‘Broken Clock Is Right Twice A Day’ Committee”
- hisgirlfriday - Tuesday, Nov 5, 13 @ 8:47 am:
FWIW, the DNC sent out an email shortly thereafter reminding folks that Illinois does not actually have elections today and apologizing.
But I hate that this Election Day tech snafu is giving me 2008 Houdini flashbacks. Yech.

=== Update X1 ===
“Dear Rich,
Fall is here, so I am sure you turned your clock back last weekend. Sorry for the confusion
Signed,
The Clock”

I remember as recently as the early ’90s (as late as 1991 or 1993) that there were local elections and referenda in Illinois on the November Election Day in odd-numbered years. I don’t have time to research this, but when were the Election Days of odd-numbered years dropped as legal election days in Illinois (in favor of local elections in February and April of odd-numbered years)?

== How come Barack didn’t sign that one? ==
Because we know computer system problems are things he is not responsible for and is unaware of…
Drops Mic…
- Wensicia - Tuesday, Nov 5, 13 @ 8:50 am:
I received both e-mails. It does state “The Democratic National Committee is solely responsible for the content of this message.”
So, why was the first message signed off as Barack?
- Jimmy - Tuesday, Nov 5, 13 @ 9:15 am:
Maybe he was too busy drafting an email explaining how Obamacare is affordable for the middle class?
- Demoralized - Tuesday, Nov 5, 13 @ 9:34 am:
I get annoyed when people don’t have respect for the Presidency and call any president by their first name. I have the same feelings about this e-mail.
- Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Nov 5, 13 @ 10:12 am:
I also got both emails. The DNC must be in a glitchy mood.
Vote early and often today

Demoralized, in general, I agree. However, Obama “signed” the email with his first name, inviting a response in kind. In general, however, the president should be referred to formally no matter what your view of the individual. We are respecting the office, not necessarily the individual currently occupying it.
I am an old fashioned kind of guy. I don’t like it when folks who, having met me for the first time, start calling me by my first name. In my dealings with folks in my “professional” life I call them Mr, Ms, etc until told otherwise.
My wife of 30 years just recently told me I could stop calling her Ms dupage dan and call her by her first name. Made my day ;/)

To the post - I think they’re just getting us all excited about 2014 - it’s only a few days away!
- Downstater - Tuesday, Nov 5, 13 @ 10:27 am:
I thought Obama was to be the technological wiz, when he took office. IPAD and IPOD were his constant companions. I guess, he is better at being a community organizer.
- Rusty618 - Tuesday, Nov 5, 13 @ 11:11 am:
This needs to be the opening for Saturday Night Live this weekend with the guy who plays Obama.
- OurMagician - Tuesday, Nov 5, 13 @ 11:17 am:
Obama still uses a Blackberry.

Brings to mind a classic line about computer and programming “problems”:
GIGO - garbage in, garbage out
- PolPal56 - Tuesday, Nov 5, 13 @ 12:22 pm:
Oh, so that’s why I haven’t been pestered by robocalls, tuned out a gazillon TV ads, recycled lots of useless bulk campaign mail, seen yards bristling with signs…
Thanks, DNC, for clearing that up!
