Question of the Day
Thursday, Apr 17, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller Posted by Barton Lorimor (@bartonlorimor) * A little while back, I created a post on Facebook about what songs I should include on an iTunes playlist called “Session.” For example, “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” by Cage the Elephant is there. “Life in the Fast Lane” by The Eagles was a must. Dylan’s “Things Have Changed” is on the list. You get the idea. Anyway, the original post didn’t really attract much attention (sad story, I know). So with that in mind… Question: What songs would you include on a music playlist entitled “Session?” Please don’t everyone suggest every track on Pink Floyd’s “Animals” album. VanillaMan, it’s your time to shine, buddy!

When I worked for house staff back in the early 90s I used to play the short song “minimum wage” by They Might be Giants. It was so appropriate for the long crazy hours we worked - especially the sound of the cracking whip! I think one day someone calculated the #of hours/the average salary and it fell way short of minimum wage!
It went along well with my Dogbert poster that said “the beatings will continue until morale improves”…those were the days!

In my most cynical moments, I’d say Dylan’s “Slow Train Comin”
“Sometimes I feel so low-down and disgusted
Can’t help but wonder what’s happenin’ to my companions
Are they lost or are they found
Have they counted the cost it’ll take to bring down
All their earthly principles they’re gonna have to abandon?
There’s a slow, slow train comin’ up around the bend”

Also a fan of Houndmouth’s “Come On, Illinois”
“Put your vote in a box

Take what you know
Throw it down the goddamn privy”
