    A Terrence Goggin endorsement?

    “Policy announcement”?

It will be the policy of the Rauner/”Slip and Sue” ticket to have Evelyn as available as Terrence Goggin?

    Non-Snark(?)

Support of Jack Franks “Leader Term Limits” Bill.

    That…would be fun!

Best guess - We are working on the numbers and we will get them to you real soon :)

  3. - Snucka - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:14 am:

Maybe Rauner has renewed his auto insurance policy? Haven’t seen any actual public policy from the Rauner-Sanguinetti campaign, so that is my best guess at the moment.

  4. - Name Withheld - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:14 am:

He’s announcing an exploratory committee to see what policies he should announce.

  5. - Steve - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:17 am:

This is relevant. Who does the hotel’s property tax appeals business Madigan or Burke? Maybe Bruce Rauner is going to announce he’s handing off all of his property tax appeals business to Madigan’s firm and he wanted to make this announcement in Madigan’s district. This is the Rauner policy statement for the day.

  6. - Demoralized - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:21 am:

“I’m announcing a policy of making no policies.”

  7. - Demoralized - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:22 am:

“I’m announcing a policy of being against things while offering no policies of my own.”

  8. - Ron Burgundy - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:22 am:

He finally has a policy on something?

  9. - Demoralized - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:23 am:

“My central policy is to shake up Springfield. That concludes my remarks.”

  10. - Medicaid - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:25 am:

Since Quinn is going to sign the Medicaid bill this month, I bet it has something to do with Medicaid reforms…maybe even budgetary Medicaid issues. Maybe he is going to start talking state finances!

  11. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:30 am:

Rauner will be “excited” to announce the extra Liability Insurance Policy all these campaign stops are now requiring to have “Slip and Sue” Sanguinetti attend will now be underwritten by the Campaign, and the policy requiring “Slip and Sue” to sign waivers will now be mandatory.

“We are pleased to announce ‘Slip an.. “, um, Evelyn is now welcome to travel any and everywhere with this new policy, but she will not take any questions or really speak when spoken to, that policy won’t change”.

At least that would be refreshing…

  12. - Almost the Weekend - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:30 am:

If I had to guess privatizing Illinois’ public assets such as Midway Airport. I know Rahm attempted/failed with this, but once again Rauner can show his crossover support, and continue to ignore conservatives downstate who won’t go out and vote for him.

  13. - Grandson of Man - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:32 am:

Privatize state services, put all state workers into defined contribution pensions, tax pensions, expand charter schools, get rid of the state income tax, levy service taxes, break the morale of opponents with huge sums of campaign cash, find out the weaknesses and fears of legislators and prey on them, put the entire state budget in the stock market, levy a “union boss tax,” etc.

  14. - MrGrassroots - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:33 am:

My old hood, in fact. Wedged in between the 23rd Ward and the 13th Ward, between Lipinski country and Madigan country.

  15. - Just Observing - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:33 am:

“Thank you for attending. Evelyn and I are here to announce that we are going to shake up Springfield. No questions, thank you.”

  16. - Stones - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:35 am:

“My policy is not to discuss policy”

  17. - Streator Curmudgeon - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:35 am:

“I will only answer questions from reporters wearing Carhartt jackets, and even then I will only say, ‘We’re working on it.’”

  18. - Snucka - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:36 am:

OW — that’s more like it. I mean, I had the seed of an idea with the auto insurance policy, but you bring it all together, tying in the instance of a rare Sanguinetti sighting. It was right there in front of me and I let it get away. Nicely done, sir.

  19. - Knome Sane - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:38 am:

Policy update: Rauner announces that by mixing peanut butter WITH jelly, you get a pretty darned tasty lunch.

  20. - wordslinger - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:39 am:

–If I had to guess privatizing Illinois’ public assets such as Midway Airport.–

Midway is not an Illinois asset.

My uninformed guess is “something, something, blue ribbon committee property taxes.”

Bernie has a hilarious account today on his exchange with Rauner as to why he’s been ducking the SJR edit board.

Rauner giggles and giggles and goes full Sgt. Schultz, claiming not to know anything about several invites and how he doesn’t control his schedule.

  21. - ChrisB - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:42 am:

    - MrGrassroots - My old hood, in fact. Wedged in between the 23rd Ward and the 13th Ward, between Lipinski country and Madigan country.

Haha. That’s a move straight out of Rahm’s ‘06 Campaign Playbook.

  22. - LincolnLounger - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:43 am:

Fascinated that the suburban answer to Sarah Palin will be participating. I have no doubt she will bring a lot of gravitas to the policy table.

  23. - Walker - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:44 am:

    Blue ribbons for everyone.

  24. - RNUG - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:45 am:

“My plan is to eliminate Medicaid in the state and require all former Medicaid receiptants to buy insurance on the ACA exchange. We will no longer need four state agencies, which will eliminate 20,000 state workers. Then we will use the savings to eliminate all taxes in the state. Details will be forthcoming …”

  25. - Joan P. - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:47 am:

“Policies? We don’t need no stinkin’ policies!”

  26. - NWSider - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:50 am:

I just saved 15% on my policy, thank you all for coming.

  27. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:52 am:

No idea what he’ll talk about, but i’d expectthis to be the first part of a fly around the state. Why else have this near Midway? I that’s true, he obviously thinks it’s a big news event.

Btw, who is Evelyn Sanguinetti and why is she attending this?

  28. - Coffee Cup - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:53 am:

I believe that Rauner is finally going to actually announce a few policy statements just so he can counteract the media charges that he always has complaints and never solutions. Rauner will be stingy in releasing these actual fixes to the media because he only ha so many that he can safely release without making himself a target for rebuttals by Quinn. But–he will finally have something concrete for a change.

  29. - Walker - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:53 am:

My dream, that would shake up the whole election:

Announce a formal budget plan that has support from Radogno, Durkin, Cross and JBT — and meets the Illinois Arithmetic Challenge.

It would show he has some of what it takes to operate in Government.

Or would that blow his Outsider vs. Insider persona?

  30. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:55 am:

=== i’d expectthis to be the first part of a fly around the state===

If it is, he hasn’t told the Downstate media about it yet.

  31. - Pete - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:56 am:

I think based on the attendance and the location, it will have something to do with immigration reform.

Quinn is focusing on platform and business issues, so it’s time for Rauner to hit Quinn on the social issues.

  32. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 9:57 am:

He probably assumes the downstate media will drop whatever they’re working on to come to his press conference. He’s kind of a big deal you know. Just ask him.

  33. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 10:01 am:

===If it is, he hasn’t told the Downstate media about it yet.===

    It’s called the “Avoid the SJ-R” fly-around, downstate, media strategy;

Could also be a fly-around to show Evelyn the “Jason Plummer” counties she will be in from today until…forever.

Wasn’t there a tweet about Rauner not in favor of a suburban airport floating out there? Maybe something about 3rd Airport policy (?)

  34. - Wensicia - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 10:01 am:

My policy of not answering reporter’s questions on my plans and positions if I become governor will take effect immediately, this day, June 12, 2013.

  35. - train111 - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 10:02 am:

Rauner is backing Jack Franks’ bill for a public vote on term limits for legislative leaders. He’s announcing it in Madigan’s district because Madigan has been in office since the last T-Rex walked the earth, and he’s backing Franks’ bill going all bipartisan on us.

  36. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 10:08 am:

“Tip-ins” are easy - Snucka -, the assist is the heavy lifting…

Could be a Policy of Property Taxes will not be the way his Administration will make local governments balance the books or feed pension shortfalls as Lawyer Madigan gets tax breaks for Insiders. “That has to stop.”

  37. - siriusly - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 10:10 am:

He is for education spending and for human services, he’s also for lower taxes. Thank you for coming - no questions.

  38. - SlapshotII - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 10:22 am:

I was excited about Rauner during the Primary..but now he is starting to seem like all he has is money and no ideas. I feel a twinge of regret voting for him..maybe it will pass as the campaign season heats up again.

  39. - siriusly - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 10:25 am:

Good one 47. Who is Sanguinetti ? I am sure she could be a great governor. Cleary she has the gravitas to Shake Up Springfield.

  40. - bwana63 - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 10:29 am:

I will release my platform soon.

  41. - foster brooks - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 10:31 am:

He will announce hands off on active teacher retirements.

  42. - PhoenixRising - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 10:44 am:

    Agree w Pete….Immigration

  43. - Langhorne - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 11:01 am:

The baron is in favor of fewer local units of govt–starting w folding mosquito abatement districts into counties.

He will appoint the best qualified rich superstars to run state govt, regardless of party affiliation, contribution history, or lawsuits.

    So there.

  44. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 11:03 am:

Could be that the Airport Corridor areas would be a Prime example of “Right to Work” regions, and the Transportation hubs of Illinois require the policy Rauner hopes to implement once elected(?)

  45. - Wumpus - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 11:10 am:

I am announcing that I do have policies.

  46. - steve schnorf - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 11:13 am:

Why speculate? We’ll know in little more than an hour. Remember about being quiet and having people wondering if you’re smart….

  47. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 11:15 am:

    ===Why speculate? ===

    For fun. Why else?

  48. - Chicago Cynic - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 11:20 am:

He clearly is still trying to bob and weave on the budget so I think Willy had it right from the top. He’s doing it in Madigan’s district to take a direct shot at Madigan. It will be in support of Jack’s “Leader Term Limits” bill. FWIW, that’s an idea whose time has long since come, but it will never happen as long as the Speaker is in the chair.

  49. - GA Watcher - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 11:32 am:

My bet is that it has something to do with Chicago’s future airport capacity. Mr. Rauner has been stung by the reports in the media over the last couple of days re his comments in Rockford on the wisdom of a third airport in the south suburbs. The Rauner spin machine needs to fix this or else they risk losing the pro-south suburban airport vote in south Cook and Will Counties.

  50. - The Captain - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 11:35 am:

Hopefully he will finally announce his plan to invade and defeat Missouri.

  51. - Federalist - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 11:36 am:

    Can’t wait!

Is he ever going to come out with a detailed budget and how he is going to pay for it?

    Not holding my breath.

  52. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 11:47 am:

=== For fun. Why else? ===

    To drive up traffic :)

Whatever it is, it has probably already been leaked to the Tribune under an embargo.

  53. - Walter Mitty - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 12:24 pm:

Bad news for PQ and the media if it has any substance… He has run a great campaign so I expect something. If not, bad news for Rauner…

  54. - Keep it Simple - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 12:36 pm:

He’ll be announcing his picks for the World Cup.

    Anyone? Anyone?

  55. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Jun 12, 14 @ 12:39 pm:

OK, time to close up the comments. The policy plan is out. It’s weaker than even I expected: https://capitolfax.com/2014/06/12/rauner-releases-laughable-budget-blueprint/
