Question of the day
Friday, Aug 22, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller * A couple of friends of mine are getting married soon and they’re having a little pre-party celebration in Vegas this weekend. I’ll be heading there soon, so you don’t have much time to comment, unfortunately. * The Question: Your favorite Las Vegas activity? Keep it clean, people.

I think you can gamble there. I’m not sure though, but that’s what I heard.

Luv-its frozen custard, right off the strip by the Stratosphere.

- Ron Burgundy - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:38 pm:
Not really big on the gambling. Will gamble for a little while for low stakes. Nice meals, a few drinks at a bar or club, maybe a show.
- dupage dan - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:40 pm:
Las Vegas - meh
- Mittuns - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:40 pm:
*While walking from hotel to hotel, there is a band of people on the sidewalks handing out cards for extracurricular activities.
- OldSmoky2 - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:41 pm:
You can gamble anywhere these days, but if you’ve never seen it, go see Hoover Dam. It’s amazing.

Binions Poker Room
And of course a stop by the Heart Attack Grill where your waitress is dressed like a nurse.
- Stones - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:43 pm:
Try a round of golf at Desert Pines in N. Las Vegas. Great course and a heck of a lot cheaper than playing on the strip!
- Nieva - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:44 pm:
If you have time catch the Cirque Du Soleil in any form. One of the best shows I have ever.

Terrific restaurants and magic shows.
- Diogenes in DuPage - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:47 pm:
People watching is the greatest, especially between the Bellagio fountain show and the Mirage volcano show. And road frosties, in a cup, are legal.
- Six Degrees of Separation - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:48 pm:
They do have a few In N Out Burgers there.
Watching the water continue to drop at the Lake Mead reservoir. Better go while you can still get a drink.
- dgd - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:48 pm:
Legally walking down the strip with an open container. I love drinking outside.
- BehindTheScenes - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:48 pm:
Used to be the shows, where where you sat depended on how much folding stuff you slipped to the host. Now all tickets are sold for something approaching a mortgage payment. So, I reckon it’s people watching, either poolside or near check-in/check-out, Turn the sound on and you hear some really good family exchanges…
- HWah - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:50 pm:
Betting on Jackie Robinson West! Go young men, go!
- BehindTheScenes - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:50 pm:
Rich, I forgot to mention the best steakhouse in Vegas, IMHO, is the one in the middle of ‘Circus - Circus’, cleverly named “The Steakhouse”.
- Gooner - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:51 pm:
The flight home.
Not a big of the place.
Business trips only.
- Publius - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:52 pm:
You have to go to the Bellagio…the ceiling of the entry room is by Chihuly and it is dtunning…watching the light and water show in the front of the hotel is great…the conservatory is nice and all the restaurants, especially the buffet , are super. And the pools are unbelievable… You really don’t need anything else in the town, except maybe a fatboy burger.
- Former Titan - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 3:53 pm:
Bellagio bloody marys and fountains.

Pinball Hall of Fame on Tropicana. 150 working pinball machines. Cheap, more fun than a slot machine, and all the money goes to charity. http://www.pinballmuseum.org/
- zatoichi - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 4:31 pm:
> Skip the casinos.
> Go climb Red Rocks west of town.
> Go to Little A’Le’Inn in Rachel and revel in UFO world. As you return, watch for the lone mail box about 5 miles out. Turn right and head toward Area 51, the security car on the hill, and the signs to stay out. Just different.
> Go to Roberto’s - fast food Mexican that is just great
> Hoover Dam - You just have to.
> Do serious desert driving and hit the south side of Grand Canyon.
- MrJM - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 4:40 pm:
We saw JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound at the Cosmopolitan.
But other than that, Vegas ain’t my scene.

- Been There - Friday, Aug 22, 14 @ 4:58 pm:
Not a fan of franchise or chain places but when I walked by Margaritaville I noticed they didn’t have any slot machines in the place. A rarity (ding ding) because they are everywhere (ding ding). That noise (ding ding) drives me (ding ding) crazy. Found a seat outside on their 2nd floor balcony overlooking the strip. Unbelievable how the peace and quite from the (ding ding) can be so nice.
