Primaries can be good things

Thursday, Jul 30, 2015 - Posted by Rich Miller

* This could be a good thing for Sen. Kirk, although I have my doubts whether Walsh will pull the trigger

Conservative radio host and former U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh says he’s still considering whether to make a primary bid for Senate against Republican U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk.

Walsh told us this week he’d make the decision “very quickly.”

When reminded that he said in February he’d decide “in the next month or two,” Walsh set a deadline.

“A decision most definitely will be made before Labor Day,” he said.

Walsh would constantly attack Kirk from the far right, which would probably help Kirk re-establish his moderate bona fides.

Money will not be a worry, at all, for Kirk, so sure, run and let Sen. Kirk have 3 months of looking reasonable, that’s helping.

Have the “ATM” Gidwitz to bundle $10K for Walsh to help Kirk. It’s the least he could do, and he’d be getting off cheap…

If you follow the money, this doesn’t make sense….unless it actually does.

It would help Kirk look very moderate and Joe could pound on the Democrats to his heart’s content. The collateral issue would be some still very sensitive feelings in the Asian Community in the 8th Cong. Dist. about Joe Walsh. That could harm whoever the GOP candidate is there.

    Run, Joe, Run!

Just like when he was in the House. LOL

While part of me is reasonably confident there aren’t many communities with warm fuzzies about Mr. Walsh, as long as he’s not the 8th District candidate I don’t see much fallout for whomever is.

In other words, it helps Kirk win a general because it takes away the current distractions (Kirk’s mouth, ability to run) plus the moderate aspect.

This would be an interesting test of the Tea Party’s influence in Illinois. They hate Kirk and love Walsh.

I would trust Joe Walsh of the Eagles more than that waste of radio airtime on 560. Former rep Walsh is such a blowhard..though it may be an act for his listeners and potential constituents. But he would certainly be entertaining for reporters covering the election.

Oh Joe, how can we miss you when you won’t go away.

(Well, in a sense you did “go away” when you popped up on the left-of-the-dial, 5,000 watt blow-torch aptly named WIND.)

  9. - the Other Anonymous - Thursday, Jul 30, 15 @ 5:03 pm:

Hey, if Trump can lead in the polls, why not Walsh?

  10. - Wordslinger - Thursday, Jul 30, 15 @ 6:45 pm:

A Walsh run would be the best thing that could happen to Kirk.

Whe you have a bad case of crazy mouth, the contrast with a real loon is very helpful.

Nothing will save Kirk. He’s toast.
