Heck, he gave them all money with the promise of more — of course they are celebrating him.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 9:23 am:
It’s not about the GOP, it’s Rauner, again, reminding is all, “It’s all about me!”
It’s the Ego. Not surprised.
- AC - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 9:24 am:
It’s not as if they could celebrate his accomplishments so far, so the best they could do was to celebrate the man.
- Mouthy - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 9:24 am:
Was going to the fair today but think I’ll wait until tomorrow…I have a fear of red and white bumper stickers…It’s called sticker shock…
- archimedes - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 9:24 am:
Must be his birthday….
- Bluefish - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 9:32 am:
Theme music for the event will be provided by Kool and the Gang:

- Not it - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 9:34 am:
It is Governor’s Day after all.
- Langhorne - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 9:47 am:
Celebrate rauner? What, exactly, is there to celebrate about this guy? Cuts? Closures? Pain?
- Wordslinger - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 10:06 am:
Quite imperial, the lords, ladies and peasants from the hinterlands summoned to celebrate their new king at court.
They better hope the ring is all they have to kiss.
- ihpsdm - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 10:12 am:
There’s a whole lot to celebrate. I heard the Governor is giving out gift certificates to Blockbuster.
- Juice - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 10:13 am:
Can parking at the fair now be purchased with $25 Visa gift cards? #askingforafriend
- Arsenal - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 10:15 am:
It’s not like they have much else to celebrate. Kirk won’t be there, you can’t really celebrate a super-minority, and Munger’s doing an OK job, but who really cares about Comptroller? Rauner’s all they have to hang their hat on.
- Kasich Walker, Jr. - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 10:27 am:
@ Arsenal — they could celebrate Kirk’s absence.
Does Kirk still want missiles on commercial passenger flights?
That will be a real winner in his re-election bid.
- @MisterJayEm - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 10:27 am:
“celebrate Governor Bruce Rauner.”
The apotheosis of the Trophies-for-Participation culture.

- G'Kar - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 10:27 am:
At least they are not asking him to genuflect, or are they???
- Concerned - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 10:32 am:
MrJM, I hope to meet you some day. You never fail to impress. Brilliant observation, again!
- TheTomServo - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 11:00 am:
Went to see about tickets for Gov’s Day. What year is this, by the way? https://twitter.com/ilgop/status/633662988637999105/photo/1

Truer words have not been written.
Need to get a couple dozen of these.
- Facts are very stubborn things - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 11:29 am:
Its true. 28 years of Madigan control is the #1 problem. Everyone knows Madigan runs the show in this State.
- bluegrass boy - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 11:59 am:
Celebrate what? His riches?, his disdain for unions?, his 120,000 wine club membership? Guess they are here to celebrate a lack of true governing. Smh
- DuPage Don - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 1:58 pm:
Give the man a break. He could be at his farm in Wyoming or at one of his two ranches in Montana or his condo in Park a City or his ocean front home in Key Largo, FL or even his penthouse in New York, but instead he commits himself to a Governor’s Day in dreary Springfield all in an effort to jumpstart Illinois’ dysfunctional non-functioning government. God Bless him, a thankless task!
- RNUG - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 2:31 pm:
== instead he commits himself to a Governor’s Day in dreary Springfield all in an effort to jumpstart Illinois’ dysfunctional non-functioning government ==
All well and good if he is doing some cheer-leading for Illinois instead of verbally running the state into the ground.
- Shoedoctor - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 2:57 pm:
I expect to see the same people posting how the Democrats have nothing to celebrate on Democrats day. They have accomplished nothing over the past decade. Rauner has accomplished nothing in 6 months
- Demoralized - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 3:04 pm:
Oh brother. Another victim playing the “yeah, but” card.
- Shoedoctor - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 3:30 pm:
Tell me it’s not true Demoralized. I am waiting for a full throated defense of Illinois politicians and the status quo
- Demoralized - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 3:38 pm:
No defense here. Perhaps I missed your point. Seems to me that your point was “yeah, but the Democrats are worse.” Maybe I’m wrong.
I’d laugh if anybody felt the need to celebrate anyone right now. If they do then their standards for celebration are pathetically low.
- MyTwoCents - Wednesday, Aug 19, 15 @ 5:00 pm:
It’s been an entire legislative session plus, at what point do the Rauner cheerleaders acknowledge his responsibility in the failures of the session? No budget, not a single reform measure passed, unforced errors like the hiring of Goldberg, the excessive salaries, etc., there is absolutely nothing to celebrate.
