I can’t believe that senator Anderson was a no vote. I also thought murphy’s request that members vote “present” on the MAP grant bill was ridiculous. If matt and the senate republicans felt that the MAP grant bill shouldn’t advance because it lacked funding, why not vote no? Just pathetic politics.
I would also be looking at running as an independent or at cutting a deal for a different office or position. Last time he ran in this district he ran against the establishment and got the tea party vote. I know his district has a lot of state employees, but now he would have to run in a primary without the tea party and party support.
He’s got a primary opponent who will likely be well funded by Rauner. It’s put up or shut up time for you folks who appreciate his support of his constituency. He’s got some warts so you need to work it hard. AFSCME take notes.
From Tea Partier, to potential Third Partier to Senate Republican Pariah, and now onto Union Toadie, Sam McCann has shown himself to be only about himself. The only constant during his political tenure has been his utter lack of relevance … until now. #PrimaryTarget
If Senator Anderson doesn’t know he’s supposed to be in Springfield to vote, someone should tell him. This is not his first NO VOTE. He was here in the district for a photo op. He should have got right back to Springfield.
Anon,
Anderson received a lot of support from Rauner peeps. Not to mention his union despises the guy (they endorsed Jacobs last year). Not much of a surprise.
@George Sande- so, what your saying is that if McCann does as he is told by the governor he is a bold patriot bravely voting his conscience? If, after threats from his own party he votes in direct opposition to the direction of the most powerful Republican in the state he is a shameless toadie? Ok./s
That certainly fits the Raunerite narrative. Do as I say or you are somebody else’s puppet when, you know, I own you.
“Dear Sen. McCann-
Enclosed please find one IPASS Transponder, courtesy of your friends and supporters who are our members from your district. We are certain you will appreciate the convenience of avoiding the lines and stops to pay cash for tolls.
With gratitude, AFSCME.”
Sam’s problem isn’t Rauner. It is himself. If he goes down at the next primary, it is because of his own fiscal mismanagement, not because of Bruce Rauner.
If Bruce Rauner became an issue in Sam’s next election - it would be a help to him, not a hindrance.
Many people voted for Anderson because Jacobs voted for pension theft. Anderson will be a one term senator if he keeps up this nonsense. It is not what he ran on, and it is not what he was elected to do.

In 2008 I was not in the union. In 2010-2014 I was. Since 2008 my state salary has grown 34%. Divided by 8 years=4.25% annual raise. Go accountability.illinois.gov to run your own comparisons.
- UNION GOP MAN - Thursday, Aug 20, 15 @ 10:51 am:
Yes, he did. But I forgave him.
I think my 34% increase comment should have gone to the Other voices on the AFSCME bill. My error
It would be interesting to see the Dillard vs. Rauner primary numbers from last year in McCann’s district. I’m sure Dillard won, but I’m curious by how much. That might provide some clues as to how confident McCann is about surviving the coming storm.
Sam could cut a deal with Cullerton and run as an independent in the fall.
McCann loves attention, and this is the way to get it. He’s challenging VonRauner on his own turf, through a pawn. Not bright, IMHO. I would expect the GOP base to be solidly Rauner, with all the money the pawn needs to get the job done. McCann stakes his career on AFSCME; mostly crossovers, in a presidential primary? Yikes.
Sad thing about all this is once upon a time, a guy could vote his district and get a pass; not on VonRauner’s watch.
Lipinski’s district does lean right compared to other safe Dem seats, but it is not nearly as conservative as he is, as this poll shows.
Still, I don’t see a challenge from the left succeeding. This district is home to some actual vote-producing ward organization (Madigan’s 13th and the 19th are the strongest) and a lot of union members. Unless Madigan or labor abandons him — and they won’t — Lipinski will be safe even if a well financed liberal takes him on.
As for the McCann veteran claim as I understand it he enlisted in the USMC and was discharged prior to completing boot camp for medical reasons. So the statement is a bit cloudy. Yes he enlisted and received a medical discharge however he is not a Marine. Whichhe had claimed at one time. (Not completing boot camp is a big distinction among Marines)
If you can’t make tough decisions and be willing to explain them you shouldn’t be running for public office. I don’t know Sen. McCann but appreciate the courage it probably took to make that vote.
Voting your constituents wishes on a bill gets a legislator cross ways with the Governor, we’ve come a long way since we have a new Governor, unfortunately it appears to be in the wrong direction.
