Lang, Rauner to negotiate new med-mar bill
Thursday, Sep 3, 2015 - Posted by Rich Miller
* Lou…
House Deputy Majority Leader Lou Lang (D-Skokie) today issued the following statement regarding an amendatory veto override motion on House Bill 3299, legislation on which Governor Bruce Rauner had, via amendatory veto, reduced the extension of the state’s medical marijuana pilot program extension from two years to four-months.
“Based on a pledge from the Governor’s office to engage in a substantive negotiation to reach a mutually acceptable compromise, I have decided not to seek an override of the Governor’s amendatory veto. I salute the Governor’s willingness to negotiate an agreement that will best serve the interests of patients who are depending on this legislation.”
That’s very good news.
We need more like this, please. The hyperpartisanship this year has been just too much to bear.

Now, if MJM can become Lou Lang…………

That is good news, Lang has been one of the Govs chief antagonist this session and cooler heads from him and Govs office is very good news. Maybe just maybe a ray of hope.

Maybe we’re on to a new path. Good on both of them. Let it be a template for moving forward!

A couple of weeks ago (or maybe last week) I noted that perhaps one reason for the HB 1 override was as simple as Leader Lang denigrating the Governor on the floor of the House.
His tone yesterday on pretty everything - especially HB 1 - was much more calm and statesmanlike.
Sometimes, the best solution is just to treat people better.

if Lou hadn’t lied to the Governor originally, we never would have been here. He should have kept his original promise to negotiate with the Governor instead of grandstanding. He got the message.

I agree. More positive news like this shows the two sides can see eye to eye. It should be encouraging news.

a nice first step..now can each side behave long enough to actually accomplish a genuine extension of this much needed program.. I hope so..

I’m just glad that Dem leadership is slowly figuring out this whole divided government thing. The state can only advance with bipartisan diplomacy from here on out. Kudos to all and maybe we can move in a positive direction now that yesterday is over.

True words, this entire situation is awful. We need this on about 100 other issues.

= Anon - Rep Lang is the same as the Speaker in this context. The Speaker is probably the one who allowed Rep Dunkin to be MIA yesterday. =
Somebody might want to tell the Black Caucus this. They are a little fired up right now with Ken. I’m not buying the theory that the speaker orcistrated this. I’m still thinking Dunkin acted on his own.

This.
And then we continue to get these comments . . .
==I’m just glad that Dem leadership is slowly figuring out this whole divided government thing. ==
. . . Which clearly indicates that some people will continue to be hyperpartisan.
You know what I would do here? Accept this as something good in the midst of this nightmare. But some just can’t let go of the “winning” thing. It’s always the other guy that is to blame.
Cut the crap everyone and work together on issues like they have apparently done here. I don’t want to hear any more crap about “the other guy.”

What a delicious and munchie inducing irony that the partisan dam will perhaps break here over the issue of Med Marijuana.
It feels right.
- MyTwoCents - Thursday, Sep 3, 15 @ 3:34 pm:
Anon2u, what do you call the Turnaround Agenda again? It’s ridiculous to only accuse the Democrats of needing to realize there is divided government. Both sides are to blame and both sides need to figure out the possible vs the pie in the sky ideology. Hopefully this and criminal justice reform are the key steps in that direction because so far there’s far too much ideology floating around and Rauner wasn’t elected by claiming to be an ideologue.
