A lone ray of sunshine

Rich,
On your blog, there has been a lot of discussion about a lack of good news. Today, the City of Chicago legalized food carts– a huge win for Hispanic food vendors who have been operating illegally. Additionally, this creates significant growth opportunities, similar to what we’ve seen from food trucks in Chicago.
Here is a copy of the legislation.

I love those “street tacos”! No sarcasm. They’re good.
- That Guy - Thursday, Sep 24, 15 @ 1:30 pm:
1. It must be a lie if IPI is “reporting” it.
2. It must be bad if IPI approves of it.
3. Nice work IPI. (third one is not snark)

Now if they’d just stop handicapping food trucks, I’ll be very happy.

In other news, the National Rifle Association had a momentary bout of confusion and mistakenly thought they were the National Restaurant Association. The NRA assumed this was an assault on their rights. This lead to a call to arms from its D.C. leadership, but all was calm when they arrived for tacos, ribs and pu pu platters and had a grand old time.

So let’s see…that now makes the count 43,395 pieces of bad news. 1 piece of good news. Great!

Just be careful with the mayo on the corn on the cob. Dont take chances with mayo.
- 47th Ward - Thursday, Sep 24, 15 @ 1:57 pm:
Yeah, there’s the mayo issue, and also, where do they wash their hands again?
- Anonymous - Thursday, Sep 24, 15 @ 1:58 pm:
Sure hope the food quality is certified, like it is in restaurants!

If only I lived in Chicago. Guess I’ll have to continue to enjoy the food carts around the courthouse in Peoria instead.

If you are worried about where they wash hands, maybe you shouldn’t watch the movie “Waiting”

When I worked downtown, I gave lots of $ to the Italian food cart (forget their name). It was “incredibile”.

Now, will Chicago begin to license and regulate the metal scavengers cruising up and down the alleys morning, noon and night?
- 47th Ward - Thursday, Sep 24, 15 @ 4:21 pm:
UFR, why regulate metal scavengers?
- mokenavince - Thursday, Sep 24, 15 @ 4:21 pm:
It only took Rahm’s people over 4 years to move on this. But I do remember great hot dog vendors on the street corners.
- Wordslinger - Thursday, Sep 24, 15 @ 4:34 pm:
Love the scavengers. Pop anything remotely of value in the alley, no matter how large, and it’s gone in an hour.
- 47th Ward - Thursday, Sep 24, 15 @ 4:46 pm:
===it’s gone in an hour.===
And for free! No way the city could collect all of that and dispose of it for zero cost.
- Anon - Thursday, Sep 24, 15 @ 5:42 pm:
Need to be sure that the scavengers are licensed and insured. It also might deter some of the scavengers who choose to load items that were not really left out for disposal.
I had an overloaded pickup truck driven by a scavenger blow out its tires on Irving Park Road. Not a pretty sight and a near collision for several motorists.
Other truckers have to be licensed.
- sal-says - Thursday, Sep 24, 15 @ 6:25 pm:
Legalize? Great. But then, if regulations & red tape similar to food trucks, hmmm, maybe not so great? It is IL and It is Chi. Guess we’ll see.
