Let the airing of grievances begin!
Wednesday, Dec 9, 2015 - Posted by Rich Miller * From the other day…
* But that’s about to change. Remember the story from Monday about a group calling itself The Humanity Fund which sent a letter to Secretary of State Jesse White asking that its gay pride Festivus Pole be, um, “erected” in the rotunda?…
Well, they heard back… I gotta get me one of those.

I will volunteer for the job. If I dress in rainbow stripes, wear a glitter ball on my head and wear my stiletto pumps, I’m 6′6″.

I can also sing the entire discography of Air Supply.

Don’t remember “Gay Pride” figuring into the “Seinfeld” episode concerning “Festivus” (”Not that there’s anything wrong with that”).
A smaller quibble: Shouldn’t the use of public places in Illinois be limited to groups actually based in the state or having a local affiliate or chapter? The address indicated that this group is from Florida.

If only getting a budget were as easy as getting a Festivus pole erected…

I’m thinking Rich should apply to put up a display consisting of a pile of straw covered by a Christmas rug … And maybe a shovel to clean up whatever ends up in the straw.

Looks like a form letter generic reply. Wonder if they are reading their mail. Need to get over there since they’re not mailing out sticker reminders.

(Mouth opened, eyes as saucers)
(Almost a whisper) Whoa…
I want two letters, now this would make 3, a whole set.
1) A dismissive letter signed by Speaker Madigan, with the full closing.
2) A mocking rebuttal signed with the retorting closing and signed by Goldberg.
Boy, this 3rd letter is pure joy.

oh, I think we need some “feats of strength” fantasy match ups here!
- 47th Ward - Wednesday, Dec 9, 15 @ 3:19 pm:
Maybe I’m being overly sensitive, but when did Gay Pride usurp Festivus? How did these two very different things get connected?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for gay pride, but I was a little offended by the request to “erect” the pole near the nativity scene. Poor taste and bad form, it’s taking a joke a bit too far I think.
But other than that, carry on.
- Six Degrees of Separation - Wednesday, Dec 9, 15 @ 3:27 pm:
For the feats of strength, I’d like to see a carny sledgehammer…if you hit it hard enough, the weight goes all the way up the Gay Pride festivus pole and shatters the disco ball into a million little bitty pieces, reminiscent of Comiskey Park on July 12, 1979.

A festivus pole with decoration? Blasphemy. It goes against everything Festivus stands for. Tinsel, as we know, is distracting.
- Adam Smith - Wednesday, Dec 9, 15 @ 3:40 pm:
As much as I love to intertwine all things Seinfeld into my daily life, this is ridiculous.
This is not a legitimate use of public space. It is not a true religious observance. By giving it credibility, this “group” and its festivus pole belittle the observance of real religious holidays.
Where does it end? Do we have to include every sitcom catchphrase in the rotunda?

We don’t already?

Coming soon, a memorial to Les Nessman’s “godless tornadoes”, contributed by the Freedom from Religion Foundation.

The world needs more yacht rock.

cast the characters of the Festivus episode with pols. I’m going for Frerichs as Kramer.

the rotunda could use a plaque….. “as God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly….”

Serenity now! SERENITY NOW!

One imaginary “religious” ceremony is as good as another.
