Not safe for work

* I watched part of this go down in real time. Oof.
And no bad language in comments, please, even if you are just “quoting” somebody.
…Adding… DNAinfo Chicago did a story…
“It’s a street fight, and sometimes it gets a little messy, and that’s OK, because street fights are long overdue in Chicago,” Proft said Monday. “I’m sick of the deference that is given and politicians in the city and state think they deserve. They don’t deserve it.”
Reilly, by contrast, called the exchange “unfortunate,” but quickly added, “I take my record on fiscal reform seriously,” pointing to how he voted against Emanuel’s 2016 budget and its record tax increase.
“Dan took some shots at me because I had the audacity to label the governor’s CPS takeover as the sham that it is,” Reilly said.

“You desperately want me to be a liberal & you know I’m not” — Brendan Reilly
We do know. But thanks for clarifying!
- Stones - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 2:50 pm:
Great example for young people…not!
- Gooner - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 2:52 pm:
The funny post-script to this is that Proft has been all over desperately trying to defend himself.
Sure seems like he gets that by acting strange, he may have put future $1.8 million contracts at risk.

All right kids! Give your mothers your cellphones and go to your rooms. No computer time, no use of tech toys at all until you can conduct yourselves better!
- My New Handle - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 2:55 pm:
And you want to be my latex salesman?
Yikes, Dan!
- Frenchie Mendoza - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 2:55 pm:
Okay — I read from the page bottom to the top. It’s crazy.
But what’s the context? I noticed it was 17hours ago? Is this a transcript? Or a real-time tweet war — or whatever it’s called?
- JI - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 2:55 pm:
I thought maybe the talk about no FY “2015″ budget was a typo. But then he repeated it several times.
He knows the current budget window is for FY 2016, not FY 2015, right?
- Team America - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 2:57 pm:
Who needs a hug and a beer summit?
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 2:57 pm:
Proft is trying to be Rauner’s hatchet man, while claiming simultaneously he’s not.
Proft is also projecting his own anger at being called out after “claiming” $1,818,000.00
Ugh.
Proft should just own his role, embrace it, and move on.
- Soccermom - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 2:57 pm:
Thanks. I needed that.
- MOON - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 2:59 pm:
Grammer school nonsense.
No adults here.
- Ahoy! - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:05 pm:
those guys have too much time on their hands.
- Fusion - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:07 pm:
Let’s not pretend that they are both equally at fault. Proft was at least 90% of the problem here. Brendan was actually kind of funny.
- thunderspirit - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:09 pm:
So glad Mr. Proft stuck to the facts he was trying to outline instead of resorting to name-calling. /s
- Michael Westen - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:09 pm:
‘“You desperately want me to be a liberal & you know I’m not” — Brendan Reilly’
As opposed to Proft who should say, “I desperately want to be a conservative & we all know I’m not, they just have the most money right now!”
- @MisterJayEm - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:13 pm:
Watching Cicero Dan claim to be for clean government is always good for a laugh.
– MrJM
- Timmeh - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:15 pm:
I don’t like the insult mouth-breather. If you don’t breathe through your mouth on occasion, maybe you’re inside too much engaging in twitter wars.
- Springfield - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:15 pm:
Why would Reilly lower himself to interact with Cicero Dan?
Also, I wonder how Pate would have responded if Thompson, Edgar or Ryan went after one of his Senators like Rauner is going after McCann? Or how would Emil or Cullerton have responded if Blago or Quinn had?
- Rhino Slider - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:16 pm:
Proft does have a point that too much deference has been given to Chicago politicians. I would like to see them brought done a peg or two.
And for someone in politics so long, Proft really has a thin skin.
- Lucky Pierre - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:17 pm:
I wish Rahm, Bruce, MJM and Cullerton would get on Twitter.
I am no fan of the crudeness but It sure beats the stale talking points we hear from them
- Outsider - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:34 pm:
wow, that is just so sad…on both parties part.
- Austin Blvd - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:37 pm:
Brendan did a nice job of calling Dan out as a hypocrite. When Dan had no response, he used the Madigan route. Just so predictable. Like Rauner. Like the McCann commercial.
- Flannery Fan - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:38 pm:
Back in my day it was both of you to the gymnasium with a pair of laceless Everlasts and a head gear.
Now the boys settle their scores over twitter.
- Lil Squeezy - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:39 pm:
I hope they have stopped tweeting. I wouldn’t know bc I lost interest after a few minutes. Seems childish for both an Alderman and a $1.8 million lap dog.
- Jaded - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:43 pm:
I read this yesterday and the Pee Wee Herman line “I know you are but what am I?” kept going through my mind.
Springfield, I can tell you how Pate would have responded, and none of it could be printed here.
- Anonymous - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:46 pm:
One more note on this — Proft, to the extent that what he says matters to anybody, made his boss look somewhat ridiculous.
For $1.8 million, Rauner deserves a lot more.
However, just like with his budget consultant, Rauner has not shown himself capable of surrounding himself with talent.
Rauner needs to step back and decide what his own role should be. If he made the call on Proft, he should start leaving those decisions to others.
- Gooner - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:47 pm:
Anon 3:46 was Gooner.
For some reason, the name/nickname keeps clearing every time I come back here.
- crazybleedingheart - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:49 pm:
==For $1.8 million, Rauner deserves a lot more.==
It’s almost like the guy is bad at the business of business.
- West Side The Best Side - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:55 pm:
Just because you can twitter doesn’t mean you should.
- Politix - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 3:57 pm:
“It’s a street fight” …? Uhhmm no, you poked the bear and immediately got your backside handed to ya.
- sosilly - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 4:13 pm:
And we care about this? This is irrelevant as is proft.
- sal-says - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 4:13 pm:
Dearest Mr. Propht:
Regarding your statement: “It’s a street fight, and sometimes it gets a little messy, and that’s OK, because street fights are long overdue in Chicago,” Proft said Monday.
NO; street fights are not OK. Unless you’ve been in one & can speak from personal experience. If you haven’t, you are clueless and should probably keep your mouth shut, if possible. Or go look for a street fight & then tell us what you think about it afterwards.
- wordslinger - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 4:16 pm:
Somehow, when I think “Chicago street fight,” the scary mental image in my mind does not include Dan Proft or anyone who remotely reminds me of him.
Now, “sycophantic cheap hustler at the trough for mobbed-up politicians and rich right-wing zealots,” why…
…boop — he pops right up.
- CrazyHorse - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 4:25 pm:
I’m with Sal Says and wordslinger. These guys are the new generation of internet tough guys. A Street Fight? You pretty much have to be from the streets to be in a street fight. I don’t know where these guys are from but I’m betting it’s closer to Elk Grove than Englewood.
- AC - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 4:26 pm:
Both sides looked bad in this exchange, but for one side it reflects a pattern that’s apparently being encouraged.
- Wensicia - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 4:39 pm:
Proft compares this silly sniping as a “street fight”?
Who is he channeling, Kass?
- old time independent - Monday, Jan 25, 16 @ 4:47 pm:
No wonder Larry Dominick fired Proft from that golden parachute of a job in Cicero.
He was going to help clean up Cicero and clean up he did!!!!!!
