Caption contest!
Monday, Feb 1, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller
* From Heather Weir Vaught’s Facebook page…
As I prepare to return to work on Monday, I realize how lucky I am to have had a maternity leave. I will miss our little rituals, which include reading him Rich Miller’s Cap Fax in the morning and watching Friends in the afternoon. Like every other working parent, the guilt is awful. One day I will explain to him what I do and why it is important to me. And maybe, just maybe, he will be better off because of it.
Heather is House Speaker Michael Madigan’s chief legal counsel. She’s been missed.
* And here’s little Thomas, who is, apparently, a future subscriber…
What a cutie!
- A guy - Monday, Feb 1, 16 @ 11:04 am:

The secret to getting your infant to take a long nap after breakfast - reading him Rich Miller’s Cap Fax in the morning.
- Earnest - Monday, Feb 1, 16 @ 11:05 am:
Another reason to subscribe: Cap Fax will put your child to sleep faster than any lullaby.
- Union Leader - Monday, Feb 1, 16 @ 11:05 am:
Beautiful! Looks like he is dreaming about being an intern for the guy who used to be a page for Speaker Madigan.
Speaker Madigan and the babies he controls.

- Not Rich - Monday, Feb 1, 16 @ 11:07 am:
When Heather starts to yearn for Lil Thomas, she can always go down to the 3rd floor, put Mapes on her lap, and read CFax to him>>>>>LOL
- phocion - Monday, Feb 1, 16 @ 11:08 am:
Dear Mommy,
Get yourself a stuffed giraffe. That makes all of your problems go away.
Love, T

“Dreamin’ about a playdate with Oscar…”
- sideline watcher - Monday, Feb 1, 16 @ 11:12 am:
So adorable! And yes Heather that is a wonderful prayer and what most working mothers wish. We know exactly what you mean!
- Honeybear - Monday, Feb 1, 16 @ 11:13 am:
Sorry Oscar, you have been usurped as the great calming image. I could sit here and look at that for hours.
I get the guilt, I really do. I’d like to point out though that when Thomas is older he will take tremendous pride in his mother and how she contributes to a better state. Plus he’s got giraffe with him so he’ll be good. I get it though. I kind of lost myself in my kids for a while. I remember being quite startled one year that I didn’t want anything for myself for Christmas. I just wanted things for my girls. It freaked me out but became the starting point for finding my own needs again. Blessings on you and your family. Plus there is nothing as nice as coming home to a little one. Enjoy! They grow up so fast. My oldest is taking drivers ed this semester! EEEEK!
- Notorious RBG - Monday, Feb 1, 16 @ 11:13 am:
Adorable little man! This looks like the pictures I took of my child the night before returning from maternity leave: baby asleep on my lap, empty wine glass in the background…

Yes, they grow up very fast. My baby twins are now 30!! But now I can look at similar pics of my grandson, Little Joe!!! A good caption would be ” Cheer Up Mommy, Go Have a Good Day at Work, I’ll Be Waiting For You When You Get Home.”

Beautiful baby! Kids are what make life worth living.
Let this be a reminder to everyone on this blog…everyone involved in state government–state employees, legislators, statewide officeholders, lobbyists, et al–are real people with real lives. They aren’t comic book villains or soul-sucking dementors. They are real people with kids, moms and dads, and joys and sorrows. We would all be better off to remember that from time-to-time.
- John on the spot - Monday, Feb 1, 16 @ 11:51 am:
