Krishnamoorthi’s poll shows big lead

Tuesday, Feb 16, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From a Raja Krishnamoorthi press release…

A live poll of 400 likely Democratic voters taken February 9-11 by GBA Strategies asked 8th District voters in the northwest Chicago suburbs which candidate they would vote for if the election were held today.

Krishnamoorthi had the support of 41 percent of voters with State Sen. Mike Noland at 27 percent and Villa Park President Deb Bullwinkel with 5 percent. Undecided voters accounted for 26 percent of the poll. The margin of error was +/- 4.9 percentage points.

“The primary election is a month away and we have a long way to go,” Raja said. “But I’m encouraged that voters are responding to our message of protecting Social Security and Medicare, fighting for sane gun laws and standing up for policies to help struggling working families.”

* Lynn Sweet was given the results

On the presidential front, the survey found 52 percent for Clinton, the former Secretary of State raised in nearby Park Ridge and 40 percent for Sanders, an indication that the Vermont senator is doing well enough to potentially pick up some delegates. […]

Other findings: most people, 29 percent, who have heard of Krishnamoorthi said it was through mail, handouts or flyers; only 2 percent have seen his website; only 4 percent knew about the Durbin endorsement and only 3 percent knew he went to Harvard and Princeton.

* PPP had different results, but its poll was from a month ago, Jan. 13-14

According to the poll, Noland received 22 percent of votes, Krishnamoorthi received 17 percent and Deb Bullwinkel received 11 percent. Fifty percent of voters were unsure who they would vote for.

A lot of Raja mail has dropped since then.

I think that Sanders will do better than many predict. He’s going to get a good chunk of the Independent vote and his Democratic numbers will only improve.

In other news, Senator Noland’s pollster accidentally called into the wrong Congressional district.

    Team Sleep — details, please.

    Soccermom,

This is what Team Sleep is referring to in that comment.

*No show in IL-8: The Chicago Tribune Editorial Board is doing candidate endorsement interviews ahead of the March 15 primary elections. Reporters often attend to look for news. On Tuesday, the Democrats running for the nomination to try to succeed U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth of Hoffman Estates were scheduled to appear.

Businessman Raja Krishnamoorthi of Schaumburg and Villa Park Village President Deb Bullwinkel took their seats at the table, but state Sen. Michael Noland of Elgin didn’t attend. His campaign said it thought the gathering was later in the day.

“A campaign staffer misplaced the time of the meeting on the senator’s calendar and that staffer takes full responsibility for his mistake,” Noland campaign manager Nick Daggers said in a statement.

Soccermom - sorry, that was my attempt at humor. I was referencing Senator Noland missing his Trib ed board meeting because of a scheduling snafu that his “staffer” made.

**Senator Noland’s pollster accidentally called into the wrong Congressional district.**

That would be funny, except I don’t think that Noland’s campaign has enough money to poll…

  7. - IL08 Voter - Tuesday, Feb 16, 16 @ 12:43 pm:

Even with the January poll, looks like Noland can’t the move the needle from his current positions in the 20’s range. How much does he have in the bank? Less than 20k?

Deb is done - she needs to go from 5 to 34 in weeks and her campaign is in the negative.

  8. - Betsy - Tuesday, Feb 16, 16 @ 12:47 pm:

Two different poll samples, but the PPP poll had 50 percent undecided with Raja’s poll having half of that at 26 percent. The undecideds seem to be breaking toward Raja. Noland needs to stop that bleeding and have the remaining undecideds break heavily to him. Not an easy task, to say the least.

  9. - Is This A Campaign Or WHAT?!?! - Tuesday, Feb 16, 16 @ 12:50 pm:

No Show Noland: can’t move past the 20s

Where is Deb: no where to be found

  10. - DuPage Bard - Tuesday, Feb 16, 16 @ 1:59 pm:

Now there is finally a poll that shows Raja leading. Should be interesting to see how the stretch goes.
That’s a big movement for Raja from the Jan poll. 4 weeks of money well spent obviously to move 24 points. Amazing that with 50% undecided in January and Raja at 17%, now a poll a month later only has 26% undecided and Raja has moved up 24 points very impressive marketing.

  11. - IL08 Voter - Tuesday, Feb 16, 16 @ 2:37 pm:

DuPage Brad - for the first time in a long time, I think we both agree. Competitive races are won with proper resources and we’ll see that in IL08.

  12. - Becky, Hoffman Estates - Tuesday, Feb 16, 16 @ 3:59 pm:

Looks like a two way race but as a suburban mom, I came to like Deb. Such a disappointment - I haven’t seen anything from her campaign. No mailers - nothing. Wish we had a stronger candidate. I like Raja but I was ready to vote for Deb. Raja gets the vote.
