  1. - How Ironic - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:03 am:

I’d recommend both audio and video taping of the proceedings, with a trained stenographer as well.

That way it’ll prevent Rauner from ‘misremembering’ the particulars.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:05 am:

“So let it be written… So let it be Hooted!”

    That silly ole Owl…

    To the Post,

No poison pills? Many things could get some fairly quickly…

  3. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:06 am:

In other news, from the Twitter-in-Chief:

–Dustin Johnson just can’t make a putt today.–

The world needed to know that, immediately.

  4. - cdog - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:09 am:

Let’s hope some Const Amendments are on the agenda, progressive income tax (for the Now), pension language (for the Future).

Lead folks. Cut your deals. Rome is burning.

  5. - Roadbuilder - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:09 am:

    Let the festivities begin…!!!

  6. - Honeybear - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:09 am:

Big stuff is going down behind the curtain. Folks in other agencies that I have been talking too got the “General Quarters” over the 1MC yesterday.

  7. - Delimma - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:10 am:

I’ll let you take credit (blame) for a tax increase in exchange for completely eviscerating your base.

  8. - Norseman - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:11 am:

How Ironic, better yet, send in a pool reporter. Rich, you available?

  9. - anon - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:11 am:

In his business experience, did Rauner attempt to attain compromise by first repeately insulting the other side and blaming them for all that ails? If not, then why would he think the Trump method is the way to achieve political oompromise?

  10. - Boooooooo - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:11 am:

    *Meeting convenes*

Gov. Rauner: “So, I see that you all received my smoke signals. Structural reforms are necessary before-”

    Everyone else: “We’re done here.”

    *Scene*

  11. - BIG R. Ph. - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:12 am:

Get them all in the room. LOCK the doors. Provide plenty of Pizza & Beer. Don’t let them out until it is fixed.

    It’s not that complicated.

  12. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:14 am:

    ===LOCK the doors… It’s not that complicated===

    Felonies are always complicated.

Don’t be more of a child than they are.

  13. - Try-4-Truth - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:15 am:

It’s been my experience (which is not as vast as others, I will concede) that Speaker Madigan generally does not engage until the structure of a compromise is in place.

Maybe I am trying to be hopeful. Maybe I am naive. That’s my attempt at reading the tea leaves.

  14. - #5 - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:21 am:

    @honeybear
Would you please elaborate on the “got the “General Quarters” over the 1MC yesterday” statement? I am not sure what that means and I don’t have the CircularFiringSquad decoder ring I’ve heard so much about.

  15. - Foster brooks - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:26 am:

    I’ll be anxiously awaiting CK’s
    Presser

  16. - Gordon Willis - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:26 am:

Honeybear….will the 4 tops be piped aboard too? I wish I had a boatswain’s pipe.

  17. - JackD - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:27 am:

Hopefully, something will actually happen. However, experience says let’s wait and see.

  18. - RNUG - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:31 am:

Will we see black or white smoke over the Capitol today? … that is the question.

  19. - Mama - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:35 am:

Rich, any bets on how long the meeting will last, & will the meeting be deemed as productive? I have a feeling the meeting will be over with by 3PM & no real progress in sight.

  20. - Mama - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:40 am:

I’m bringing my lawn chair so I can watch the 2:00 fireworks over the capitol today. I wonder if Jesse White will provide ice cream?

  21. - Mouthy - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:43 am:

    - RNUG - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:31 am:

Would that be for the Pope of Greenwich Village?

  22. - Honeybear - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:46 am:

They will be talking about “structural reform”. s/

  23. - Mama - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 11:48 am:

“Cullerton said he didn’t believe attendees would be talking about Turnaround Agenda items.”

It sounds like there are still trust issues at play. I sincerely pray they will iron out their differences today, & give the social programs plus universities/colleges/schools the relief they need to stay in business.

  24. - Obamas Puppy - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 12:01 pm:

If this legislative thing does not work out for Sandack he might have a future as a reporter.

  25. - Austin Blvd - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 12:08 pm:

First order of business on Madigan’s list.
    1. Thank Bruce for primary opponent.

  26. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 12:13 pm:

===First order of business on Madigan’s list.
    1. Thank Bruce for primary opponent.===

    You win.

    Hilarious.

  27. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 12:29 pm:

Honeybear, I don’t know if we have a qualified sailor available to pipe them aboard on short notice.
Perhaps we’ll have to settle for Sandack giving a big hoot following the arrival announcements

    “Speaker of the House, Arrivin’!”

    “Who?”

    Sounds classy, eh?

  28. - anon - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 12:42 pm:

Two easy predictions: There will be no progress, and Rauner will blame it all on Madigan.

  29. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 12:55 pm:

    AA, very funny.

The first order of business, of course, will be to get to the bottom of that missing quart of strawberries.

I expect Midshipman Sandack will tweet: Madigan.

  30. - Huh? - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 12:57 pm:

I’m with anon. Rich has posted another thread with 1.4% demanding his agenda and blaming the GA.

  31. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 1:01 pm:

    –I’ll be anxiously awaiting CK’s
    Presser–

From my observation, ck is the brightest banana in that bunch.

She gets the dirty work and executes in a professional, mature and respectful manner while the high-paid Frat Boys play beer pong and craft their childish, petulant letters and tweets.

    ck is a-ok with me.

  32. - A guy - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 1:03 pm:

Let’s just see if anyone’s holding hands on the way out.

  33. - Honeybear - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 1:04 pm:

AA whooooooooooowweeeeeeeeeeooooooooooooo (Sandack on the bosuns whistle) lol

  34. - No Longer A Lurker - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 1:45 pm:

Has anyone started a pool on the length of this meeting? With the exchange of pleasantries among the governor and the 4 tops I’m placing my bet that the meeting is over by 3pm.

  35. - BIG R. Ph. - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 2:03 pm:

Sorry for the strong language (lock the doors). Hopefully you can sense the frustration!

How about “close the doors and have them guarded by members of service organizations that are going bankrupt by the lack of agreement until the 4 leaders and the Governor have come to agreement”.

  36. - Norseman - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 2:35 pm:

    === Monique Garcia@moniquegarcia
Speaker Madigan on way into meeting: “I think the world will change.” ===

    Sarcasm? (/s)

  37. - A guy - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 3:23 pm:

Well. The world did change some. The moment he walked in. Maybe it’ll change some more. White smoke? Who’s flesh might that be?

  38. - sonny chiss - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 3:46 pm:

“so let it be hooted” bahaha! OW is on fire today, especially in the Goldberg post comment section.

  39. - Norseman - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 4:15 pm:

Well I take it that there wasn’t a great meeting of the minds since the Dems are now running the Higher Ed/Human Services Approp bill.

  40. - Denisquared - Tuesday, Apr 12, 16 @ 4:21 pm:

    @RichMiller - one good felony deserves another……
