Today’s quotable

* John Pletz at Crain’s…
J.B. Pritzker had more bounce in his step than usual at the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center’s annual Momentum Awards dinner tonight.
And why not? He was fresh off a rare two-fer, in which two of his venture investments were sold, including Viv, Dag Kittlaus’ follow-up to Siri, and sports-TV graphics provider SportVision. Viv, which Pritzker Group Venture Capital backed last year, was a relatively quick score. Sportvision was one of Pritzker’s earliest venture deals from his first fund, raised in 2000. Terms weren’t disclosed for either deal, but Pritzker didn’t look disappointed.
* Pritzker, who recently gave Mrs. Rauner’s Ounce of Prevention fund $5 million, also cracked a joke about Gov. Rauner…

I wouldn’t be so certain about that…yet.

Keep an eye on that Pritzker kid. Someday he’s going to be a billionaire.

== …not going to prison. ==
It ain’t over til it’s over.

Giving Diana Rauner $5 million to “save face” for the $7+ million Diana Rauner “cost” Thr Ounce by supporting the “Business Decision” to sue her husband, but still supports the squeezing of Social Services..
You bail out Diana and her embarrassingly anti-social agenda “no agenda” support… you get to tease Bruce.
Thems the rules.
Of course that $5 million is probably $17.25 to Pritzker(?)
I’m not worried, when more social services close and fail and Bruce continues to make clear this isn’t a social agenda, Diana can stroll into her “unpaid” roll at The Ounce and shrug her shoulders, “Hey, I saved mine!”

Kwame Raoul did it way better. At the joint house-senate committee hearing on criminal justice reform, after the presenters mentioned Rauner was touring Illinois prisons, Raoul said “It’s nice to have a governor volunteer to go to prison.”

OW - The joke is not an insult to Rauner. It’s an insult to IL. Not to mention premature. Not to mention not even all that funny.
- Timmeh - Friday, Oct 7, 16 @ 10:47 am:
A bit harsh Willy. I’ve seen nothing to suggest that Pritzker deserves scorn. The Rauners’ hypocrisies are their own.

Glad JB has his bounce back.
We all know how money worries can eat you up inside.

I read it the same way when Rauner told the “story” his child said “I don’t want you to go to prison”…
Is it making fun of Illinois, or mocking the caricature of Rauner?
- Anon221 - Friday, Oct 7, 16 @ 10:52 am:
HIs Magic 8 Ball told him that??? Mine said, “Time will tell”.

That could be a great strategy for the Gov. Do something grossly impeachable (be sure to drag Ol’ Slip n’ Sue along), so that the job defaults to Madigan. He’s already wasted tons of money to make Madigan unelectable to a statewide office, viola, Madigan is gone and Rauner is the hero. I knew I should have applied for one of those “Superstar” positions when they were first offered, I’d have been great at it.

I don’t think I showed scorn towards Pritzker.
I do think Diana needed that $5 million, besides from her, or Bruce, but as something investing in The Ounce, so Doana saved face.
I’m sure Diana enjoyed the chuckle of staving off the $7+ million, and Pritzker, by happenstance helped.
You help Diana look like she is looking “beyond” a business decision and saving her embarrassing times at her mom-paid job, you get to mock the whole governor/jail/Bruce thing…
… I think it says more about the Rauner’s.
- VanillaMan - Friday, Oct 7, 16 @ 11:27 am:
Do you know what the worst part of the joke is?
The guys in jail were BETTER governors than Rauner!
- Bobby Catalpa - Friday, Oct 7, 16 @ 11:29 am:
Fat lady ain’t sang yet.
Although, I realized (after reading about Trump’s spiteful tweet about Kirk) that the best way to get Rauner out of office in 2018 is to have a Trump presidency.
For that reason, I’m voting for the orange guy with the cotton candy hair.
- burbanite - Friday, Oct 7, 16 @ 12:25 pm:
Yet.

With the amount of money that’s getting thrown around in campaigns and the amount of things that are happening to keep things operational without a budget, there’s bound to be some stuff that winds up not being straight on the up and up.
So, here’s hoping enough of the underlings of Illinois Politics have changed their ways to avoid sending another Governor to jail.
- JS Mill - Friday, Oct 7, 16 @ 12:55 pm:
@V Man- Ouch! Score that one a direct hit!

Timmeh +1
At least Pritzker is putting his wealth to good use.
- Politix - Friday, Oct 7, 16 @ 2:28 pm:
It’s making fun of IL and a cliche at that.
- Anonymous - Friday, Oct 7, 16 @ 2:30 pm:
One rich guy criticizing another fat cat for dabbling in politics?
I have never forgiven this wealthy egomaniac for assisting Jan Schakowsky in securing her position in Congress following the retirement of Sidney Yates. Pritzker dumped tons of money into a losing primary bid that split the vote between three candidates.

Isn’t there still some investigation into Gov Quinn and the NRI grants??? IL may still keep the streak going…
