    Amen!

  2. - AlfondoGonz - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:23 pm:

I sense more than a hint of camaraderie, brother.

  3. - Saluki - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:24 pm:

    Go Cleveland!

  4. - RNUG - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:25 pm:

Seriously, I expect another pitcher’s duel. I also expect, at the first sign of fatigue, we’ll see a good part of both pitching staffs tonight.

  5. - Mongo - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:25 pm:

I am a Sox fan but not a Cub hater. And I gotta admit, their friggin plan worked. Go Cubs!

  6. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:28 pm:

NWS is forecasting showers AFTER 2 am. Hope so. Last night’s weather was perfect for the Classic. Here’s to both teams, but still…. GO CUBBIES!!!!

  7. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:30 pm:

I feel like Charlie Brown running full-speed to kick that football right now…

I just want to kick the football!

  8. - Cubs in '16 - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:32 pm:

Great analogy OW! I’d like to keep this moniker and not have to update it again next year.

  9. - Last Bull Moose - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:32 pm:

Finally a solution to global warming. Cubs win and hell freezes over!

  10. - A guy - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:33 pm:

A rising tide lifts all ships. A win tonight would be a rising tide for our city. As a Sox fan, I don’t just wish them the best, I’m willing it. Go Cubs!!

  11. - Chairman McBroom - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:36 pm:

Rich, thank you for saying “Cub.”

  12. - Rod - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:36 pm:

The Cubs have proven they have fight in them and so have the Indians. Rich the Cubs likely won’t blow the game, they could get beat because the Indians are such a good team, much better than many Chicago based reporters portrayed them. I think the Cubs win or lose will play in a way that should make their fans proud.

  13. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:37 pm:

My butt is going to be puckered up tight on each and every pitch. Not sure how I’m going to make it through nine innings.

    Go Cubs!

  14. - thunderspirit - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:41 pm:

    Here’s hoping!

  15. - Responsa - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:42 pm:

They were down. I thought they were toast. But after last night I think Cubs are actually going to do it.

  16. - Responsa - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:47 pm:

White Sox in 2005 were so much kinder to their fans, making it a no doubter by sweeping in 4.

  17. - pool boy - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:53 pm:

Too bad Mike Royko is not around to write about the ex Red Sox factor.

  18. - Former Downstater - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:54 pm:

Win or lose, it’s a fantastic season for a team clearly on the right path for the future.

  19. - Deft Wing - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 3:57 pm:

I think they’ll win. Go Cubs!

  21. - 32nd Ward Roscoe Village - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:01 pm:

My dog will be happy–last night I walked him during the game and there were no other dog walkers around–all of his doggie friends were inside watching the game. Go Cubs!

  22. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:02 pm:

Yeah but in 2005 they had weak opposition. You notice they never came close again.

  23. - a drop in - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:03 pm:

Will Ernie Banks show up to pinch hit as specified in the “Bleacher Bums” play?

  24. - Huh? - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:03 pm:

There is a lot of baseball to be played tonight. It ain’t over until the last pitch is thrown and the last out is called.

As a some time Cubs fan, the heart has been broken too many times to get the hopes up until I see the final score.

  25. - Goatee - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:09 pm:

Are they looking around the locker room wondering who’s going to be the one responsible for blowing it?

  26. - Louis G. Atsaves - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:11 pm:

Cubs 4, Indians 3 in 14 innings. Emergency rooms in both cities will be filled with cardiac patients!

  27. - Amalia - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:15 pm:

for the love of god, win so the whining will cease!

  28. - Big Muddy - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:15 pm:

    Playing off of OW,
Wile E. Coyote finally catch the Roadrunner tonight?! Just once in my childhood I wanted to see that damn bird get caught. I hope Acme isn’t based in Cleveland…
    GO CUBS!!

  29. - Casual observer - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:18 pm:

The 1st team to make a defensive mistake will lose. Go Cubs.

  30. - illini97 - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:18 pm:

I don’t know that I’ve ever been more sports-anxious than I am right now.

  31. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:20 pm:

Rich, don’t you think you are putting too much pressure on them with this post?

  32. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:22 pm:

I’m surprised it has gone 7. Indians missing their #2 and #3 pitchers and their best hitter.

Can Francona work magic one more game or are the Cubbies destined to win???

  33. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:23 pm:

    - Big Muddy -

    Well played!

  34. - Amalia - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:24 pm:

  35. - Gruntled University Employee - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:24 pm:

Yeah cub fans, act like you’ve been th… Oh wait…Never mind.

  36. - Gruntled University Employee - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:26 pm:

If the cubs do win tonight will their new mantra be “Wait till last year”?

  37. - Bogey Golfer - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:31 pm:

Win or lose there is going to be some tears shed tonight. Want the Kleenex concession.

  38. - thechampaignlife - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 4:33 pm:

Good luck. We’re all counting on you.

  39. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 5:51 pm:

    @Responsa:

The White Sox also defeated an expansion team that had never appeared in the World Series until 2005.

    Go Cubs!

  40. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 6:01 pm:

    - Cubs in ‘16 -

My hope is you get to keep it too!

  41. - Amalia - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 6:05 pm:

    @Anonymous 5:51 pm, stop laying a mattress.

  42. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 6:08 pm:

–I’m surprised it has gone 7. Indians missing their #2 and #3 pitchers and their best hitter.–

Obviously a Cards fan, with the usual excuses.

Cubs took threw in a row from Dodgers, the last one against Kershaw, who had shut them out. Should be able to figure out Kluber on the third go-round.

  43. - PublicServant - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 6:22 pm:

Hoping for the best. Go Cubbies!

  44. - foster brooks - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 6:58 pm:

where were the cubs in 2005?

  45. - illini - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 7:09 pm:

Just wishing Steve Goodman could see this game!!!!

  46. - RNUG - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 7:31 pm:

Whatever happens tonight, the Cubs will likely be back in the playoffs the next few years.

  47. - Cannon649 - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 7:49 pm:

Win or Loss the Cubs have a strong team for the future - that is is fact.

    Tied in the third

  48. - John Etheredge - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 8:33 pm:

Here’s hoping the Cubs’ success will light a fire under my White Sox.

  49. - Roadiepig - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 9:28 pm:

6-3 top of the 7th. Keep it up !

  50. - Six Degrees of Separation - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 10:39 pm:

They haven’t blown it yet, but they are skating on the thinnest ice ever.

  51. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 11:00 pm:

Finish on Nov. 3rd ??? Ground Chief thinks they’ll get the game done. What a game!!!

  52. - cannon649 - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 11:48 pm:

Story book game - extra innings - can not beat the drama -

    YES they won

  53. - RNUG - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 11:49 pm:

Don’t think there could have been any more nail biting drama than this game!

  54. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 11:49 pm:

    YES!!!

  55. - Six Degrees of Separation - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 11:53 pm:

    Not a problem!

  56. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 11:53 pm:

    Tears Of Joy!!!

Just thinking of so many people who are not here with us to see this. This one is for them. This is one of the greatest sports stories in American history.

    What a deliriously happy ending!

  57. - Cardinal fan - Wednesday, Nov 2, 16 @ 11:58 pm:

Congrats to all the long suffering Cub fans. Enjoy!

  58. - Anon221 - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:04 am:

Fun with numbers… Won in the 10th with 8 runs. 108 again!

  59. - wordslinger - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:22 am:

Down three games to one, blow the lead in the eighth, win it in ten.

    Chokers no more.

  60. - illinois manufacturer - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:25 am:

I would argue thus would help incumbents because chb fans are all in a better mood….but such a wild ride.

  61. - illinois manufacturer - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:29 am:

Cannot even spell cub I am so stunned.

  62. - PublicServant - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:49 am:

Gotta get me some birria tomorrow. The goat is dead! Congrats Cubs!

  63. - Grandson of Man - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:53 am:

All the negative stuff about the Cubs, the aura of losing, the curse, the choking, all of it is gone forever.

  64. - Levois - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 12:54 am:

I tuned in for the last 5 or so innings. It was a great game and both teams wanted it. The Cubs came out on top and I was happy.

  65. - Chicago Champions! - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 1:59 am:

The Cubs players succeeded despite some highly questionable in game decisions by their manager. Joe Maddon’s moves backfired, but the Cubs found a way to win.

The Indians did an amazing job despite a depleted pitching staff and various injuries. Francona needed to close out the Cubs in five games and when the Cubs won on Sunday it was a great momentum shift.

  66. - Red tower - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 2:48 am:

Saw this somewhere else but 108 years since last win and they win it in the 10th with a score of 8. Weird. Sign of end times I think.

  67. - Lobo y Olla - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 6:52 am:

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood! W!

  68. - Silent Majority - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 7:01 am:

So congrats to Tom Ricketts taking a page from George Steinbrenner and buying a world series ring. Now your just a normal team with nothing to whine about…..

  69. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 7:55 am:

    ===…buying a world series ring.===

Really? How many free agents are on this Club?

How many kids that went through the minors and came up with the Club?

This team was built, it was put together, but it wasn’t “bought”.

    Eamus Catuli - AC000000

  70. - illini - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 8:03 am:

So what if Marty McFly was only a year off in his prediction.

    Great series, terrific final game.

Congrats to the Cubs and all my friends who have been their long suffering fans.

  71. - Rabid - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 8:53 am:

The end of global warming, something just froze over?
