congrats Cubs fans. but, on which date did the Cubs win the World Series? the White Sox won two games on Oct. 26, 2005 to finish it. Your celebration has a different issue. fun.
c…c…c….congratulations to all the happy, loyal, long-suffering Cubs fans this a.m.
not so easy for a Cardinals fan to say. they have a great team. but the billy goat didn’t go down easy, did he?
My Cub fan grandpa didn’t live to see the game, but I’m very happy for the Cub fan grandpas who did. And for the Cub fan grandmas. Heck, I’m pretty darn happy for all* the Cub fans.
The managerial maneuvers almost backfired, but the Cubs players rallied again. Hat tip to the Indians for putting up a valiant fight also despite a depleted pitching staff. What a finale for David Ross.
Time for the owners of the Billy Goat Tavern to stop milking a blatantly self-serving publicity stunt and to update their web page! Hooray!
- TinyDancer(FKASue) - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 9:32 am:
Thanks OW. Raised the roof just a few times last night:) Had an really good (was going to say bad, but the brain takes second after the heart today) case of “Go Cubs Go” earworm this morning!
Waited a long time for this moment. The Cleveland Indians deserve their own round of applause for giving the Cubs and their fans the workout of a lifetime. Cleveland made Chicago work for it and chests were clutched and cries of anguish heard across the land. It made the series all the better for the real competition that occurred in every game. Hard fought, hard won. Well done to both teams.
- Grandson of Man - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 9:54 am:
Man, that’s a great song. Thanks for sharing.
All the memories come flooding back, so many of them. I remember as a yoot, back in the day, going to Jewel grocery store to get head-shot photos of Cubs players. Forgotten names like Bill Bonham and Ray Burris. More famous names like Rick Monday, Jose Cardenal and of course, the immortal Ron Santo.
@Anon221, Happy Birthday! I feel certain the East Coast media (as a Sox fan, ESPN is hugely unpopular now) will claim the next date and I’m wondering what MLB says. but perhaps in the tradition of Ernie, Let’s have 2 dates!
Well, about that win. I had some cholesterol shake loose in the bottom of the seventh when the Indians tied it up. I kept thinking that if the stopper wasn’t stopping them then just maybe they ought to get him off the mound. Then the rain-delay and the extra-inning game, just like the extra-long drought was finally over.
Now, on to some goat stew from the acclaimed Birrieria Zaragoza on the south side, and a conversation with some of my southside friends while I cement that loose cholesterol back in place.
Amalia- Thanks:) I think you’re probably right on the two dates. WaPo is writing Thursday, Sun-Time Wednesday. I’m sticking to Dave McKinney’s tweet of remembering where you were at 11:47 pm on Nov. 2, 2016!
you can see newspapers from all over the country and world and there are some very fun headlines and photos which Cub fans will treasure. My personal favorite is a Sandusky, Ohio paper with “Indian Bummer.” I think it’s the plain dealer that has an awesome photo of Napoli’s bat shattering. fun stuff.
- paddyrollingstone - Thursday, Nov 3, 16 @ 11:42 am:
Congratulations to the Cub nation! As a Sox fan, I tip my proverbial hat to you and your awesome front office, manager and team.
This is a great, great Goodman song, much better than “Go Cubs Go” IMO.
Also, Bill Murray never, ever gets old. I remember watching him substitute for Harry early in the 1987 season (I blew off my classes to watch) and heard Murray say, “God, I hate San Diego. Every time I’m there, I try to litter.”
Those I was thinking about, those who did t see this day, many of them, we talked about that “reset”… and getting “all zeroes”… and what it would’ve meant to them.
The “W” is great, the “Go Cubs Go” is wonderful, but with all who missed this day, the “reset” is everything… at least to me.
==Nobody could have written a better script to end your WS drought.==
Actually, many Cub fans I know would have vastly preferred a script that did not entail Chapman blowing the lead. It’s good and lucky that the Cubs were somehow able to right the ship in time to get the long coveted W.
There has been such a wide array of reading “AC” over the years it’s been up there.
The stigma, some used it as a punchline, some saw it as a real measure of the frustration, I even had one or two who passed that saw it as motivation to “keep believing”.
It’s probably the single most symbol of the Cubx futility and Cubs hope, even to the same people in the same breath.
Those with the “best seats” above must’ve taken such unabridged glee when that “108″ fell off the end of the “AC”
For me it’s about equal (not quite, lol) to the marquee saying “World Champions”
==Actually, many Cub fans I know would have vastly preferred a script that did not entail Chapman blowing the lead. It’s good and lucky that the Cubs were somehow able to right the ship in time to get the long coveted W.==
I agree, I’m quite sure most Cub fans would have preferred Chapman doing his usual thing. However, where is the fun in predictability? The drama created AND the Cubs being able to win it in extra(!) innings in a game 7 situation: now that makes for an even greater memory.

Chicago has big problems, but not with winning championships. Beginning with the Bears Super Bowl championship in 1986, we’re 12-1 in championship series. Bleepin’ amazing.
