Need to add that son and daughter-in-law just moved to the same precient and street as where we live, so it was their first time voting here. Both myself and my wife voted early by mail. Someone had crossed their hands and marked the D-i-l as having voted by mail. After a bit of confusion, they got it straightened out and allowed her to vote. - From the 'Dale to HP - Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:10 am: Voted early, so can’t help, thought didn’t see a line outside of my voting place, if there was one. But did want to mention that I’m wondering how effective these GOP ads were. While they hammered home the anti-Madigan message, it was hard to tell who to vote against/vote for. I’m unsure how well they attached the [insert Democrat name] to Madigan and then who to vote for [insert GOP name] all in a 30 second ad… since there were so many targets, all the commercials seemed to run together at some point. But maybe that was the point? To be fair, I’m not in a competitive House district (in Chicago), so I never heard my representatives name while the TV was on in the background; thus my attention was never peaked. And one could easily argue that the Democratic ads fall into the same boat. However, those never tried to connect a specific GOP name to Trump and Rauner. Obviously we’ll see what happens today, but anyone else feel this way, that the GOP anti-Madigan ads were too busy? - Porgy Tirebiter - Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:10 am: Southwest Side Chicago 23rd Ward 4000 people voted early not including yesterday’s numbers. Little to no line and the process seemed to flow smoothly. This is a Trump friendly community so I saw many more Republican signs posted. Incidentally this area now uses optical scan, same method as our old area in Illinois. No more hanging chads. - Jabes - Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:36 am: 19th Precinct in East Lake View at Nettlehorst. I was ballot #74 around 7:50 a.m. I waited in line about 20 minutes. Two precincts vote in this school auditorium, and the other one always has twice as many voters - the line for them went out of the building. The workers did a good job of sorting the line by precinct and having us fill out the forms with our names, addresses and signatures while we were in line so it was relatively faster at the desk when they compared signatures. No campaign workers outside the school, saw a Clinton/Kaine sign, a Feigenholtz sign, and one other — think it was Quigley. - Hill Willy - Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:38 am: Voted at 8:30 in Sangamon 55 in beautiful Washington Park two blocks down the street from Rep. Jiminez’s home. DelGiorno was having breakfast at D&J Cafe just down the street. Slight drizzle, friendly people and not a pants suit is sight. My polling place is awful. It was hotter than hell there. They asked people for IDs even if they were already registered, and I did not receive the additional ballot w/the ballot measures. That’s a high turn out for that early. Done in 5 minutes. Biggest issue: 2/3 of candidates had no opposition. If our local Rep and Sen spent more that $1,000 this time around I’d be shocked. I think about 70 votes cast there by then. Just slightly heavier than normal. Two “red shirts” out front poll watching. Gone to this poll since the Governor’s election in 2014. Never seen a line out the inner door til today. Waited about 20-25 mins. I believe my ballot was low 60s. Election judges were very polite and helped a couple elderly folks with mobility issues to the front of the line and into a special booth for them. No one in line grumbled at this and helped point out voters with mobility issues to judges. It was very heartening. Happy to report no shenanigans! There is a longer than the average non-presidential election wait time, but I’m guessing nothing out of the ordinary for a presidential election. - Steve Rogers - Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 11:10 am: Voted at Washington Park Pavilion in Springfield this morning about 7.
