Rauner: Change taking longer than it should

* Gov. Rauner was the guest on ABC 7’s Newsviews program this weekend.
Some notable quotes…
* “Changin’ is hard. The special interest groups that like the status quo. They’re entrenched. They don’t want a change. It’s taken longer than it should.”
* When asked if he plans to run for re-election: “You know, I’m not focused on politics or elections or races….We’ll think about that in the future.”
* On Trump cabinet: “I haven’t focused very much on the federal issues at all. They’ve got their challenges at the federal government. We’ve got our challenges in Illinois, and I’m very focused on Illinois.”
* “I have long-time said I believe the immigration policy in America is broken, and I have been a strong advocate for comprehensive immigration reform. And I’ve said it repeatedly, I hope the federal government can get its act together and get comprehensive immigration reform. I’m very pro-immigration, but again, I’m focused in Illinois…”

The realization of Gov. Rauner’s response “Change is hard” is clearly letting it be known Rauner forcing this change isn’t an accident and starving the beast to destroy Social Services is a Raunerite “want” not a GOP desire. Rauner says he’s frustrated, but what if his frustration is based on not having this destruction occur quicker to force Labor & Dems to capitulate. “Change is hard”, that’s a Rauner choice and Rauner’s frustration is that Raunerism can’t destroy at the past Rauner wants the destruction.
Raunerism isn’t measurably helpful and Rauner complaining about the destruction not happening reinforces that Rauner wants this, it’s not a Democratic want. This IS on Rauner, he just told us it was.
“Simple”

“You know, I’m not focused on politics or elections or races….We’ll think about that in the future.”
Gee, someone tell JB Pritzker that he can at least take comfort in knowing the Governor is not campaigning, that’ll come later. After he has tried to clear the field with dark money.
- Tobor - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 8:37 am:
Where is the GOP opposition to Rauner wants.
- wordslinger - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 8:53 am:
For a guy that’s so focused, the governor has nothing of substance to say.
Channel 7 must have a whale of a softball team. But, then again, Charles Thomas told us last week that Rauner is “fiscally conservative,” every shred of evidence to the contrary.
- VanillaMan - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 9:01 am:
Change is NOT hard if you know what you are doing. Rauner is acknowledging that he has failed and his excuse reveals that he doesn’t know why.
Just quit! You’ve set back reform in Illinois for a generation. What’s worse than not doing something is doing something so badly, you discredit doing something.
- Scholar athlete - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 9:06 am:
Vanilla Man nails it..
- RIJ - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 9:12 am:
Rauner is a failing governor. He is intentionally attempting to destroy Illinois. His chapter in the history books won’t be flattering. Heck, most of our imprisoned ex-governors did a better job running the state.
I’m just tired of Rauner. He needs to take his ongoing dog and pony show of a campaign elsewhere.

” The special interest groups that like the status quo. ”
Yep, like higher education and social services. They love the status quo of actually receiving money from the state.
- Thoughts Matter - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 9:30 am:
If Boss Madigan.com is what happens when he’s ‘not focused on politics or elections or races’, just think what we have to look forward to when he does focus on them.

“Destroyin’ Illinois is easy when you are rich. Governin’ is a piece of cake and I will be buyin’, I mean runnin’, again in 2018.”
- A Jack - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 9:43 am:
So my options are to accept Rauner’s change, get paid less, and have higher taxes or not accept change and only deal with higher taxes. Sounds like status quo is the winner.
- PublicServant - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 9:46 am:
“Destroyin is takin longer than it should” is more like it.
- Rabid - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 9:59 am:
The turnaround is on a time table, it hasn’t even left the station yet. Your flopping around like a big headed carp announcing your reelection plans again
- Illinois Native - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 10:01 am:
“I’m very pro-immigration”
This is defiantly a pro-business position that Rauner has. However, with the states unemployment rate about 1% above national average in Nov. 2016, is this good for the workers of the state?

Can we establish a special inter-agency task to find the governor’s MISSING G’s. It’s reallllllllly buggin’ me. I mean maybe he can’t find his budget or votes or a clue of who to govern. But fercrissakes, somebody get that man some GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGs.

“Focused on Illinois,” code for destroy Democratic party.

So easy to say for someone who made $188 million last year and $58 million the year before that.

Maybe Louis Atsaves can explain how “Running Illinois Like A Business” includes no constitunally-mandated budget and not paying the state’s bills.
- Carhartt Representative - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 11:10 am:
“Special interest groups that like the status quo” basically means the people that live there and don’t want social programs gutted

“I thought the Democrats would knuckle under to me much faster than they have, after I ratcheted up the pain on their constituents.”

The poor governor. The little people aren’t dying fast enough to suit him.

A little historical perspective:
“Changin’ is hard. The special interest groups that like the status quo. They’re entrenched. They don’t want a change. It’s taken longer than it should.” - Gov. Rauner, 2016
“While we are forced to live in a democracy with several branches of government, sometimes in a democracy the process is frustratingly slow.” - Gov. Blagojevich, 2005

“It’s taken longer than it should.”
Obviously, in context, he is trying to place blame for the fact that it has “taken longer than it should” on those who are resistant to his “change.”
It’s telling that he can say that with a straight face without considering how it reflects on him. So, you acknowledge that it has taken longer than it should to implement your agenda, your word, not mine. Somehow, though, you don’t think that reflects poorly on you. He’s really in his own little world.

“Special interest groups that like the status quo” Does that include Exelon? As a St. Louis Alderman recently said. “How can the rich get what they deserve when the poor have so little to give up?”

Hustlin’ past the fiscal graveyard.

Change is only good if it makes things better. So far, I’ve only seen things get worse, and changes for a 1.4% savings in the budget won’t make things better in the long term either.
- Anon221 - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 2:29 pm:
Downer, downer, downer….here’s your onion!
In the first video….
No full budget without more jobs, better schools, lower property taxes, and term limits! Need 4 Reforms!!!
Stopgap budget… gimme, gimme 2 Reforms or nuthin’!
But, boy oh boy, is he excited about the Mansion gut and rebuild!
- wordslinger - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 3:08 pm:
–It’s taken longer than it should.”–
So is paying the vendors the governor contracted to provide Meals on Wheels for seniors.
Nearly six months into the fiscal year, and the Superstars haven’t submitted any billing to even get them in line to be paid for goods and services already provided in good faith.
Can’t blame Madigan for that. That’s all on the governor’s office.
The only question is whether it’s incompetence or squeeze-the-beast sabotage. I’ll take the latter.
- illini - Monday, Dec 19, 16 @ 4:02 pm:
“It’s taken longer than it should.”
I’m certain he is frustrated that the U of I and the other Regionals are still barely operating. It would just be one less problem if EIU, Chicago State, Western and SIU or SIU-E would close!
Guessin’ his plan didn’t work as quickly as he had hoped!

No, it’ll be easy in November 2018.
