Wednesday, Apr 12, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller * A few days ago (click here), I asked all the Democratic gubernatorial candidates where they stood on legalizing marijuana and regulating it like alcohol. The only person who didn’t respond was JB Pritzker, who hadn’t yet announced. Today, his communications director sent me this statement…

Well that there is a “common sense” statement.
- Ahoy! - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 2:57 pm:
Why minimize revenue? I mean, I get that Government shouldn’t be viewing it (or anything else) as a cash crop, but that seems like an odd statement.
- 47th Ward - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 2:57 pm:
Far out man.
- cover - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 3:00 pm:
He should have issued that statement at 4:20!
- Rich Miller - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 3:01 pm:
===Why minimize revenue?===
You read it wrong. Exactly wrong.
- anon2 - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 3:03 pm:
It will permit a clear difference next fall between the GOP opponent and the Dem proponent of legalization.
- Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 3:03 pm:

- Jeff Trigg - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 3:36 pm:
Cool, now will someone please ask him what he thinks about our current medical cannabis laws that force patients to buy it from politically connected multi-millionaires instead of being free to grow it for themselves?

That’s called progress.
- Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 4:32 pm:
Awesome. I hope the stars align on this issue and we get a new governor, and it gets passed.
- Amalia - Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 4:33 pm:

A little remodeling and that glass lobby of the downtown Hyatt would make a heckuva greenhouse.
Call it “Big Weed” after the famous “Big Bar.”

The politicians are way behind the people. Politicians like Sessions and Rauner are just farther behind than most.
The only age group in which a majority does not favor legalization is 71+. So I think you can see where this is going….

If a Dem wins the Governor’s mansion, this will be high up on the agenda (YEAH, I SAID IT).
It’ll be interesting to see how Madigan responds to that.
- georgeatt - Thursday, Apr 13, 17 @ 12:44 pm:
Your right Rich: this is progress - most agree to complete legalization. Twenty five years ago, people declared marijuana will never be legalized because of the “Gateway” theory or people assumed it more dangerous than alcohol and tobacco. Times have changed and now the anti-pot zealots few and far between.
