* This was sent to me yesterday, but it got buried. From Sen. Daniel Biss’ campaign…
It’s now been 10 days since all the Democratic candidates for governor pledged to follow Daniel Biss in releasing their tax returns.
To date, none have.
__
Background:
Biss releases 5 years of full returns. Daniel Biss, author of a bill in the Illinois legislature requiring Presidential candidates to release tax returns in order to appear on the state ballot, released five years of federal and state tax returns with schedules, and pledged to release his 2017 returns before the 2018 primary. [4/13/17].
All Democratic candidates for Illinois governor pledge to follow Biss, release 5 years of full returns. “Pritzker, Kennedy and Pawar all say they will release their tax returns. Gov. Rauner has released his returns every year. Rauner’s last return, for 2015, showed he had tripled his annual income.” [Capitol Fax, 4/14/17]

Maybe those pledges were made before actually seeing Biss’ returns and that he doesn’t pay taxes … so all bets are off? /s
- Chicago Cynic - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 10:31 am:
Oh good grief Daniel. Somehow I suspect the returns of Kennedy and Pritzker are slightly more complicated and will take just a wee bit more time to put together.

I wish Biss would focus on attacking the Governor instead of his fellow Democrats. This sort of thing only helps Rauner.
- Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 10:33 am:
He should maybe confront them in person, perhaps with a sign that says “Taxes Please…” /s

This.
I 100% understand where Biss is trying to find his sweet spot with progressives and trying to be “different” to all running for governor, but I’ve said this numerous times…
The ball game right now until the 2017 State Fair is that all Democrats running need to focus on “Bruce Rauner fails” and #DoYourJob.
It was Pritzker I saw continuing both themes. That helps them all, right now, today.
There needs to be an understanding… “Rauner” until State Fair. The goal is to defeat Rauner, and helping yourself and others… “right now”… to do it.

Chicago, tax returns were due a week ago. they shoujld already be put together, if they were filed on time.

Bliss’ technique here is quite effective. Enough of the Democrat party base thinks this is important. Bliss might not have the money but he had the virtue of not being wealthy. As far as keeping Presidential candidates off the ballot: no where in the U.S. Constitution does it say you have to show your grades , test scores from school, or release your credit score. To be President all you have to be is 35 years old and born in America. That’s it.

Ron Burgundy - that made my day!

Imagine what Bruce’s 2016 and 2017 tax returns will look like.
- Name/Nickname/Anon - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 11:16 am:
No one was/is interested in DB’s tax returns
- Chicago Cynic - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 11:28 am:
Jim,
A lot of people I know get automatic extensions - wealthy people in particular. So their returns are not due until October.

Biss released 5 years worth of returns. How about releasing returns from 3, 2, or 1 year(s) ago. Just hit the copy button.
As internecine fighting goes, this is pretty moderate.

Did anyone look at his latest tax return? Dude is broke!!!
- Evanstonian - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 11:43 am:
Can’t win the general until you win the primary.
Plus, dude needs to start spinning like a top to make everyone forget about the time he came closer than Rauner ever has/will to busting Illinois unions.
- City Zen - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 12:21 pm:
I’m more interested in Biss’ graduated tax rate plan. Where are we going to see those rates?
- Stewie - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 2:04 pm:
TRIPLED….what the deuce?

“Did anyone look at his latest tax return? Dude is broke!!!”
Personally, I always thought the “release your taxes” talking point is really dumb because I believe that business is your own.
But anyway, 10 days man? Maybe he should ask his fellow legislators for a balanced budget in that same time frame!
