Smallish crowd so far
Tuesday, Apr 25, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller * The crowd for today’s Women’s March appears to be a lot smaller than many expected, including myself. Rep. Welch was more impressed, but his photos reveal more than his words….
But maybe more will arrive in time for the second rally at 2:30. We’ll see. * While we wait, we can have a little fun with the fact that Senate President John Cullerton was misidentified on Twitter today as Speaker Madigan…
Oops. …Adding… They took down the tweet, but here’s the pic…

From the looks of it, Mrs. Blue might be right. The silent majority over the vocal minority.

When Clinton beat Trump by over 2 million in the popular vote it showed that the so called silent majority was actually only the vocal minority.

I guess “great” means something different to Chris Welch than it does to me. No doubt we’d differ on the meaning of “good” too. This turnout, so far, is neither great, nor good.

Because… Madigans!

Who cares. It’s awesome! Not bad for Tuesday!

Dang, several hundred people on a Tuesday morning is small? Looks pretty big to me.

My wife has marched in DC and downtown Chicago and never once mentioned this march.
Photographing a sparse crowd on a downward slope is not how you market your “great turn out”.
- FIREDup! - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 1:28 pm:
If the March for Science on Saturday had 700, there were easily over 1,000 here today. Most people can’t give up an entire day of work for this (me included). I went over my lunch hour and the crowd was FANTASTIC!
- Responsa - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 1:33 pm:
Just hope they clean up after themselves. A number of recent marches for various causes have left quite the garbage trail behind. That leaves a bad taste just like candidates who “forget” to retrieve their road signs after the election is over and rely on road crews to eventually pick it all up.
- Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 1:44 pm:
As we learned very clearly during the Presidential Inauguration, when you have to spin the crowd size after the fact, it’s not as big as you hyped it to be.
- Come on - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 1:59 pm:
Their emails promised “thousands.” Clearly didn’t get there despite being a highly organized event and not nearly as organic as some of the other marches we’ve seen.

Silent Majority? Compared to the local pro trump rally a month back these numbers are yuge

“…great turnout…”
As they say, “What’s so great about it?”

Not all women are progressives. Not all Democrats are progressives. Not all Democrats favor paid for abortions. Not all women favor paid for abortions.

Identity politics is a hard sell

Was it really a “Women’s March” or just another Democrat “We Hate Rauner” and love progressive tax increases hen party?
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 3:08 pm:
Ive seen bigger crowds at the porta potty line during the fair.
- Fake news photo - Tuesday, Apr 25, 17 @ 4:22 pm:
Nice angle to minimize the crowd. It was not what they had hoped but your picture was obviously taken to make it look less than it was

So Chris Welch, a supporter and attendee of the rally who took the photos, wanted to make the crowd look smaller than it was? That’s an odd tin foil hat to be wearing
