*** UPDATED x1 *** “Focus, Amanda. Focus.”
Friday, Jun 2, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller * Heh…
They really don’t do Rauner’s responses justice. The governor actually said the word “focus” in response to the Trump questions ten times. The full interview is here. The Trump stuff starts at the 7:30 mark. *** UPDATE *** The Pritzker campaign isolated the clip…

Can you imagine what will ensue if Rauner gets into an unscripted live debate with the Dem nominee next year? He’ll be like a little Bruce doll. Pull the string and it says the same three things over and over.
- Anon221 - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 1:02 pm:
I see another gif possibility! Mix that with the deer in the headlights from Emilee’s interview, and that would be great!

… and yet, just as you described, Rauner did that, debating Quinn… and won the election.
Amanda,
Big ups for trying. Rauner is at his absolute best when he can be absolutely disingenuous.
I like your Twitter too.

- Anoniphone - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 1:05 pm:
Quite condescending.
Mansplaining in all its glory. The smirk is a nice touch.
- Han's Solo Cup - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 1:07 pm:
OW. That’s true, but at that point Rauner was all promises and Quinn was the one defending his policies and failures. Boot’s on the other foot for the Carhart Cowboy this time. “There’s a rattlesnake in my boot!” “And Madigan put him there!”

Yep. “Skyhook, in reverse”, but… like this quote, and others, doesn’t mean Rauner won’t try it again.
It’s up to others to point out the ridiculousness of it.
Will they?
With respect.
- Ed Higher - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 1:16 pm:
Yes, Rauner’s lines are so smooth and repetitive you think he might be a secret Google project in artificial intelligence.
- Colby jack - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 1:23 pm:

Yes, continuing to ask rauner what he thinks of trump is ridiculous.
- Focusin - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 1:24 pm:
He never gives a straight response. This should make EVERYONE suspicious of his intentions. Most of the time his ramblings do not relate to the questions and sound like rehearsed sound bytes for any subject he gets a question. Sound like anyone else?
- Keyrock - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 1:24 pm:
Mix it with an “alternative facts” theme and you’ll drive Democrats to the polls.
- AC - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 1:26 pm:
Building on the post from Ed Higher:
I never thought I’d see a fictional crossover between the Illinois Statehouse reporting and Westworld, but this one looks quite compelling.
To change your Alexa to respond in this way, simply scroll down and select Language under the General section of the menu. A small menu will appear, and from there you can select Rauner English (US).

Asking about Trump… Keep asking, we’ll see what happens as asking continues(?)
- Grandson of Man - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 1:36 pm:
This is embarrassing for our president, who’s workin’ his behind off to make America great again. Rauner won’t even acknowledge him or say his name, repeatedly, let alone saying whether he voted for him.
- wordslinger - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 2:23 pm:
“Focus” on what? It’s a babbling non-sequitur.
- Marty Funkhouser - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 2:29 pm:
“These are not the droids you’ve been looking for, Amanda.”
- In A Minute - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 2:32 pm:
Rauner is right. There should be greater focus on Illinois fiscal issues. Good on him for staying disciplined.
- wordslinger - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 2:40 pm:
–Rauner is right. There should be greater focus on Illinois fiscal issues.–
What do you think that statement even means on June 2, 2017?
- chi - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 2:46 pm:
Ever been a governor in Illinois’ history who was scared to say who he voted for in the Presidential election?
- MissingG - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 2:53 pm:
Ms. Vinicky, you’re killin it
- Steve Rogers - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 3:25 pm:
Wow. Anoniphone is right, this is condescension at its worst. Here’s how I’m interpreting Bruce: “There, there, Amanda. Since you don’t know how to ask the right questions, I’m going to ignore your question until I get my way.” Also, this isn’t sexism, Rauner hates all reporters equally–male or female–unless of course, they support him unconditionally (ahem, Tribune).
- Moist von Lipwig - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 3:27 pm:
Sexism is alive and well in Illinois.
Gov. Rauner, stop hiding, be genuine, act like a person (if you can), and show that you’re actually working for us, not a cartoon cutout of an out-of-touch Washington-style politician who bought his way into a Governor’s Office.
- Arsenal - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 3:34 pm:
Dodging on whether or not you voted for your party’s POTUS nominee is just stupid. Just say you did. “Republican voted for a Republican” isn’t a headline.
- DeseDemDose - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 3:54 pm:
AC, love the Westworld reference.
- Dome Gnome - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 3:58 pm:
Focus, focus rhymes with hocus pocus. We are all under this spell.

- Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 2, 17 @ 4:18 pm:
Smugly talking “at” Amanda… not the best look.
The isolation clip, that’s better to highlight and “focus” on Rauner dodgin’ the fact Rauner said, at the GOP state convention, Rauner supported Donald Trump.
