* From Rep. Scott Drury…
From my vantage point in the House, it has become increasingly clear that neither Governor Rauner nor House Speaker Mike Madigan wants a budget. Each is more concerned with the upcoming election and preserving power than the best interests of the public. Had both sides been forced to simultaneously submit truly balanced budgets back in 2015 – as I publicly called for – all of this would have been avoided. That is type of honest change Illinois yearns for.

The first sentence is fairly true….the rest is Drury being Drury (insufferable, egotistical, and self-serving)
Drury can be correct on a small matter and ultimately lose on the message because…he wouldn’t be Drury otherwise.

Really can’t argue with what Drury is saying. Even if a Dem wins the next election doesn’t mean whatever agenda Dems want automatically gets passed. We see that at the Federal level. just because one party controls legislature doesn’t mean their isn’t still party in-fighting.

@ J IL
In normal times I would be inclined to agree with you, but whatever party ends this unprecedented crisis will be looked at as saviors. I think there are huge political motivations (and more importantly: moral and fiscal motivations) to get a budget passed.

Yup
- Nikolas Name - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 8:24 pm:
I’ve been saying this for about a year. Either one could get excactly what they wanted and they’d find a reason to block it. Only the senate appears to be concerned about IL.
- Wow - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 8:30 pm:
Wanna bet Drury wouldn’t vote for the revenue package no matter what the deal is
- Macbeth - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 8:33 pm:
Drury voted against the AFSCME bill. That pretty much says it all for me. Madigan’s not the problem — Drury is. And, of course, Drury’s enabler: Rauner.
- illinoised - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 8:38 pm:
Drury is uninformed. It is the governor’s job to submit a truly balanced budget. Governor has never done that since taking office.
- JohnSchmidt - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 8:43 pm:
So Drury wants to run for gov. after Rauner gets trashed in 2018, is what I get from this…
- @MisterJayEm - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 8:57 pm:
Drury is already looking past Rauner.

Illinoised - I suppose you are under the impression that Blago and Quinn always introduced balanced budgets as well, huh?
Both sides are to blame equally. Stop thinking that Madigan is the hero here.

What is the “right thing”? Be very specific.
You saying it’s the right thing, well, what is that, exactly?

Yes, please enlighten me. I have trouble buying the ‘Madigan is the new Richard J. Daley “boss” but don’t worry the selfless plutocrats are here to save us’ we get from IPI and the Trib. If you’ve got something reality based, bring it on. I won’t flame you.
- Bankruptcy - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 9:27 pm:
MacBeth,
He should have voted against the AFSCME bill. All that was was a shortcut around a negotiated agreement. AFSCME is typical. They want to follow the negotiated agreement right up until it doesn’t benefit them and then they want to change the rules. Writing a law requiring an arbitrator (who would not be impartial) is just bad public policy. Unless you are in a union of course.

And thank you, “Just Me”
I’ve heard that too. Unfortunately, it seems difficult to quantify and/or enforce. So if we use the rules of stud poker instead, it’s going to get a budget deal? Are you sure you don’t just get more poker?
- Mr.RJG - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 9:31 pm:
Scott Drury is just trying to stay relevant in the race for governor.

@Mr RJG
Drury is trying to become relevant in the race for governor.
- asian carp - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 9:41 pm:
Makes the solution sound so simple. Maybe Governor Drury should put his budget proposal out there and show us all how he would balance the budget. Maybe he has the solution.
Governor Drury if you want to be Governor, lead by example. Show us your budget please. Or are you too much of a “typical politician” ? and you’re afraid to say what you would cut and what taxes you would rase?
Dont answer, this was a retorical question
- JPC - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 9:41 pm:
Not to come to MJM’s defense, but the Governor, as a procedural matter, needs to make a balanced budget proposal. Forget what Quinn or Blago did, after all, theirs is the kind of BS Rauner was allegedly elected to correct. Their failure, in other words, doesn’t absolve him, but rather underscores his obligation to do stuff on the up-and-up.

- walker - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 10:11 pm:
Nonsense. Only two issues at work: The Turnaround Agenda, and who wears the jacket for the tax increase required by both sides. Both sides proposed similar spending plans that required tax increases — and both sides avoided admitting it

Morty’s take rings true. I try to be slow judging people I don’t know personally, so I appreciate Rich confirming this.
- Northside Dude - Wednesday, Jun 28, 17 @ 10:46 pm:
Drury should introduce his own budget to break the impasse because he is a former prosecutor in case you did not know.
