Illinois Policy Institute won’t say whether they’ll rehire former staffers
Thursday, Aug 24, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller * The governor was right when he said his newly departed staffers weren’t a good fit for his administration. Despite all the problems, I don’t think they’re bad people or even incompetent. They just weren’t cut out for their government jobs. At all. So, I do hope they all find safe landings somewhere…
We had a long debate when Rod Blagojevich was governor about whether he was getting bad advice and being ill-served or whether the fault was mainly his. He eventually answered that question. * Meanwhile…
But…
We’ll soon find out. * Some Republicans have been privately expressing reservations about running with Rauner for over a month. I’m sure it’s worse now, though…
* And this is one long list…

Saying other staff are still with the administration, but also saying they will be gone soon could both be truthful statements

First, Mark Maxwell is an “enemy”. Stop asking questions and pointing out truths.
Second, I applaud the video, very nicely done. Just need a dumpster fire in there somewhere.

Rickert will return, Brittany Carl is doubtful for return, especially after that cartoon and the Guv’s Comm failure.
That’s the only takes I have.
- 47th Ward - Thursday, Aug 24, 17 @ 12:02 pm:
Well, judging from the weird defense of the racist IPI cartoon, it’s not like they ever really left their old jobs, is it?
Therein lay the problem. You can’t serve two masters. Also, the Governor’s press office is a long way from the dorm room debate society.

I know it’s a campaign, but is it necessary to compile a spoof montage of people who lost their livelihoods? That dude also posted this thing this morning: https://twitter.com/CarterHarms/status/900752585761730560

She was never at IPI as far as I know.

Nice tribute video. There will no doubt be more. It is not a job for the faint of heart.
- Whatever - Thursday, Aug 24, 17 @ 12:10 pm:
Kudos to Mr. Harms, but he has the wrong picture for Kathy Lydon.
- Harms - Thursday, Aug 24, 17 @ 12:12 pm:
Don’t mind the montage but that staffer posted something else this morning that should be deleted. Not cool. At all. https://twitter.com/CarterHarms/status/900752585761730560

I dont know OW Trauner is a vengeful kinda former employer, and since he funds the IPI, i am guessing not.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Aug 24, 17 @ 12:18 pm:
My bad on Brittany Carl.
To that, I don’t think they can take her now, former employee or not.
Maybe Rep. Breen?
- Ghost -
Maybe we will find out who has the juice, Tillmam or Rauner?

They should show Michael Lucci some mercy given that he is about to have a baby I am told.
Now is not a good time to be changing health insurance coverage.
But he needs to be demoted to a position where he can do no further damage and it’s clear he is no longer influencing policy.
Rickert may have delivered the fateful message on the cartoon, but the ideology driving the message was a Looch-Proft cocktail.
Speaking of which, what has Daring Danny had to say about the shake-up following his attacks on GOP lawmakers?

Love the Carter Harms tweet.

Small point re: governors getting bad advice or being ill served. Someone (Anonymous?) said Governors Own. As Gov., you hired the superstars that give you advice, and you should ask several for that advice, then it’s your responsibility to decide upon which advice you will go with, succeed or fail. Bad advisors should go to different pasteurs, but it’s you, the Gov that should be held accountable. Usually they aren’t - sad.

Boo Hoo. Newborns at home didn’t prevent some previous casualties.

Rauner’s problems are going to get worse. The missteps of the BTIA ™ aside, anyone dumb enough to now go to work for Rauner isn’t going to be smart enough to do the job.
- Winnin' - Thursday, Aug 24, 17 @ 12:40 pm:
Republicans worried about runnin’ beside Rauner need to get over it. He already has given them each thousands, and there’s plenty more to come. Money talks, after all.

=== Boo Hoo. Newborns at home didn’t prevent some previous casualties ===
But it should have, right?
And that the point.
It is only just that BTiA be shown the door. But justice should be tempered with mercy. And whatever fault’s Luci has, whatever mistakes he made, his wife and unborn child should not have to pay for them. There are ways to achieve the desired affect and send the right message without putting his family under the axe in this extraordinary circumstance.
It’s what the Superstars deserved, and you can’t complain about that and legitimize Lucci’s mistreatment.

Very nice video great tribute to some fine people.
As for running with Rauner there is only one statewide office besides his he needs and cares about.
That office is the Comptrollers office plain and simple. He needs to win that office or he will endure 4 more chaotic years of dealing with Mendoza.
Munger didn’t do nearly enough in Chicago or Suburban Cook and that is where he needs to put a ton of money for that candidate.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Aug 24, 17 @ 1:03 pm:
Rauner should just run with ole Slip and Sue and Ms. Harold and leave the statewide stuff alone.
Funny thing about vetoes and incumbency. Rauner proved how toxic it can be. Ask Pat Quinn
The battle in the micro?
If Durkin can’t find people willing to be Raunerites and have Besler run the Shop and Proft handle the mail and Griffin and Uihlein pay the staffers (via State Party or House PAC) or even Diana Rauner write emails to they’d strategy…
… whose suprised at this revelation?

Lucci was one of those behind the coup that unceremoniously kicked out the superstars without such mercy and respect. Karma.

When I think about the devastation caused by two years without a State budget — the impacts on thousands and thousands of people living in poverty, and of the thousands of dedicated professionals who lost their jobs because promised funding never arrived — I don’t shed a tear for an overpaid, undersmart staffer who died by the sword. Nobody forced him to take a dual exempt job. If he wants job security he should join a union.
