The great Rauner pivot of 2017

* I am not making this up…
…Adding… From a couple of short months ago…
“Jesse White is Mike Madigan’s top patronage chief, using the Secretary of State’s office as a jobs machine for Madigan allies. J.B. Pritzker’s willingness to accept the endorsement of the Speaker’s top patronage chief is just another sign that Mike Madigan is orchestrating Pritzker’s nomination.” – Illinois Republican Party Spokesman Steven Yaffe

Bizarre.
The revisionist history machine is, apparently, in full swing.
What, next he’s going to pretend he didn’t decimate social services? Higher ed? Like it was all just a bunch of “fake news”?
- Aimtomisbehave - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 2:43 pm:
Is this the official word that the GOP doesn’t have an SOS candidate?
- Anon E. Moose - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 2:44 pm:
But what about that Grundy County State’s Attorney who supervises 2 whole people? Isn’t he the Rauner choice for SoS?
- Arsenal - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 2:45 pm:
==What, next he’s going to pretend he didn’t decimate social services? Higher ed? Like it was all just a bunch of “fake news”?==
Probably? But it’s not all that likely to work, as it’s one of the only things people know about Rauner. And Jesse…this isn’t like Stephanie Neely, who know one knew. Jesse’s already cut an ad for one of Rauner’s rivals.

Wow this feels like when someone is trying too hard to be your friend. It’s just uncomfortable.
- The Way I See It - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 2:49 pm:
That may hamper recruiting efforts at getting someone to run against Jesse.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 2:51 pm:
So it’s Rauner, Slip and Sue, Harold… Jesse, Mendoza, and Frerichs?
That’s the Raunerite Ticket
Meh. I’ve seen stranger Palm Cards…

Rauner doing his grapping at coattails shtick. It’s shameless how he tries to infer that Mr. White’s hard work over the years is a positive reflection on Rauner. Obviously Rauner was totally unaware that the media for this was to promote National Teen Driver Safety Week, or you would think he would have had that in the twitter message. Nope, all about Rauner, all the time.
“I am encouraged that teen driving deaths have dropped by nearly 60 percent since the law took effect January 1, 2008.” Jesse White http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/drivers/teen_driver_safety/home.html

Lyft or Uber?
- Saluki - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 2:51 pm:
Maybe they Governor actually thinks a drop in then driving deaths is a good thing and was giving a sincere compliment.

That ad has already been running on TV for the past several weeks, claiming historic levels of reform and school funding.
- Baloneymous - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 2:56 pm:
Is Rauner running in the wrong primary? So he thinks he’s gonna win this thing by banking on a high Dem turnout for the general, and then those Dems and/or independents will vote for an R? All those downstate R votes are locked in regardless of abortion? Cause who they gonna vote for - JB or Kennedy? amirite. This is the grand strategy. A reverse southern strategy.
- Saluki - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 2:57 pm:
Sorry I can’t spell. I’ll blame the smart phone.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 2:57 pm:
The Democrats are so grossly inept at social media, meh, why not glom on Jesse White.
It’ll work.
No one is answering Rauner, the small ball issues, whew, emails a plenty.
- Flapdoodle - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 2:59 pm:
Since when has the Guv ever been sincere?
- @MisterJayEm - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 3:04 pm:
Long-time professional wrestling fans who’ve watched an older heel try to prolong his run in a territory by clumsily switching to baby-face will recognize Rauner’s latest behavior, see also new musical vignette to reintroduce a tired gimmick.
But sorry, Bruce — the marks only need to get wised-up once.

OW right again. Rauner gives the dems all the ammunition they need. Why in the world does JB keep quiet? Beat Rauner up now and the knockout will be easier.
- Arsenal - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 3:10 pm:
==Why in the world does JB keep quiet?==
He doesn’t. He whacks Rauner every day.
- VanillaMan - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 3:28 pm:
Rauner thinks we are all incredibly unaware, doesn’t he.
Primary him.
- don the legend - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 3:41 pm:
Arsenal. You’re right, JB does go after him.
I just see the Rauner’s hypocrisy and it drives me crazy. I want Rauner pounded all day every day with his absurd lies and flip flops.
- poe - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 3:45 pm:
Maybe tomorrow’s tweets will say
“I’d like to comment Speaker Madigan for standing up to the corruption of Rod Blagojevich.
I’ve always said that nobody stands up to corrupt Governors better than Mike Madigan!”
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 3:49 pm:
===He (Pritzker) doesn’t. He (Pritzker) whacks Rauner every day.===
I said this, exactly as I meant it…
===No one is answering Rauner, the small ball issues, whew, emails a plenty.===
What happens is the Dems, as a terribly unfair whole… just let “stuff” like this slide, never is there a coordinated response that allows the Party and its members to go after a candidate with $60+ million and ridiculous tweets and statements that just get “left” out there and get picked up somewhere in Vertical Integration.
These types of silliness “things” highlight the small ball silliness that seeps into the list of focus to beat Rauner too.
If you felt I misled ya - don the legend - it is indeed on me, not you. My shorthand got ya. Apologies. OW
- jim - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 3:49 pm:
couldn’t he be both. he’s a veteran chicago dem and figurehead secy of state. but his office does work.
- Anonymous - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 3:52 pm:
This helps solidify that persistent question aimed at Rauner:
“Is there any, ANY dim sign of authenticity in this guy?”
- DuPage Bard - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 4:02 pm:
So Rauner announced he’s running for reelection today. Which Primary?
- Arsenal - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 4:27 pm:
==I just see the Rauner’s hypocrisy and it drives me crazy.==
I hear ya. And it’s very frustrating, because even Pritzker doesn’t go after everything he should. And I don’t even *know* everything he should/shouldn’t swing at.
This one’s kinda funny though, since Pritzker is currently airing an ad touting Jesse’s endorsement.
- Mama - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 5:04 pm:
Its not hard to figure out. Rauner needs the black voters.
- Rod - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 5:21 pm:
Is it possible that Steven Yaffe in his shots at Jesse White over patronage hiring does not preclude for the Governor that the Secretary of State’s efforts on safe teen driving were a positive thing? I mean Mayor Richard J Daley did a few positive things during his tenure that were not precluded by the massive patronage operation he, Alderman Thomas E. Keane, and George W. Dunne ran here in Chicago. By the way Sec White goes back to the George Dunne days on the north side.
- 33rd Ward - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 6:28 pm:
The governor presents a nice example of what will happen in a post Citizens United world.
Can throwing millions in positive ads make people feel ok enough to reelect someone respected by so few who actually follow him?
I guess Bruce thinks it’s worth spending $100,000,000 just to find out. Probably just to save face.
Are we headed towards a world where we have to suffer thru elite rich “leaders” saving face?
- Anonymous - Monday, Oct 23, 17 @ 6:31 pm:
That’s one hell of a program.
- Michael Westen - Tuesday, Oct 24, 17 @ 7:27 am:
It won’t be Rauner’s last pivot.
