* Illinois Review…
In a press release today, the Chicago Republican Party expressed disappointment that a staffer has been denied access to Illinois Republican Party headquarters. The Chicago GOP staffer was told by a Rauner staffer that he could no longer use a desk within the office.
According to the press release, the reason the IL GOP offered is a press report that Chris Cleveland, chairman of the Chicago Republican Party, is under consideration as a running mate for State Rep Jeanne Ives. Ives is considering a gubernatorial bid.
“We’re disappointed the governor’s team would do something like this. We’re running candidates in Chicago, and the city and state parties need to coordinate so they’re not left out in the cold,” said Cleveland. “The governor should be above such petty retribution.”
I’ve asked the ILGOP for a response.

“press report”
It pays to be a subscriber…
- Roman - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 1:58 pm:
I would have waited until Ives and him actually declared their candidacies. Best I can tell, Jeanne is still on the fence…alienating her and her friends might make her more likely to jump in.

There’s fever in the funk house now.
–”…was told by a Rauner staffer..–
A government employee, or a Rauner campaign staffer?
Does this mean that the ILGOP is a subsidiary of Rauner Inc.? Shocking.

Aw. This is adorbs, lol
I’m sure Jim Oberweis agrees.
Then again, Oberweis wanted Pat Brady gone for supporting SSM, but is fine, as a cafeteria conservative with Rauner signing actual legislation for taxpayer funded abortions.
I keep looking for that Grant Wehrli tweet on HB40, but I’m sure I’ll see a tweet soon about how Rauner and HB40.
It’s never been about anything but Raunerism…
“… “The governor should be above such petty retribution.”… ”
Cutest thing I’ve read today.

A bit tinfoily to be insinuating what I think you’re insinuating. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Well, the Guv’s former General Counsel apparently was concerned enough about the administration’s blurring of the lines between governmental and political work that he felt compelled to prepare a legal memorandum to the staff about it.
And shortly thereafter he was escorted out of the building by security.
- Fax Machine - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 2:27 pm:
ILGOP should boot the Chicago GOP for being bad at elections. Rauner went out of his way to avoid those losers in 2014 & he’s right to do it again.
- wordslinger - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 2:27 pm:
R, it’s a question, not an insinuation.
Do you have information from an authoratative source to answer it? If not, go home and get your shine box.

Right, yeah that’s why he was fired. And that memo was purely an ethical stand and not a CYA for other issues that really led to his being canned. He was truly a white knight done in by his own righteousness. Keep telling yourself that, DM.
- old time golfer - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 2:45 pm:
The Chicago GOP is totally controlled by Proft,Robling and Bolton. All three have one time or another been a pain in Rauners rear end. Not ONE was with Rauner in the primary last time and he still did ok. And FAX MACHINE you are spot on…..

And just look at all the success they’ve had!
- Northside City Dweller - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 2:54 pm:
Oh, Chris Cleveland, I had forgotten about you and your little Chicago club. Thanks for sending up your monthly smoke signal reminding me you’re still irrelevant.
- Fax Machine - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 3:00 pm:
If Chris Cleveland does run as Ives’ running mate, there would be an emergency meeting to vote him out as Chairman, right? Or do Rauner & Morrison not even care because the Chicago GOP is so irrelevant?
- Aldyth - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 3:13 pm:
I daresay there is no form of retribution that the governor is above.
- Anonymous - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 3:15 pm:
@Fax Machine:
The county chairman and city chairman are elected separately. You may want to read the Election Code. 10 ILCS 5/-7-8(h) may be helpful. Unless Rauner and Morrison have allies who are ward committeemen in Chicago, Cleveland is secure in his position until 2020.
- Chris P. Bacon - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 3:20 pm:
Chris Cleveland “fired” 13 GOP ward committeemen last year after they won fair and square in March election. Majorit are black

He’s not. That’s why nearly everything in Illinois is worse now than it was January 2015.
- Reaganing - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 3:36 pm:
Wordslinger - everything is a scandal right? On this instance, no nothing confirmed. However, I’ve have seen enough to know hypothesizing about something unethical like that with this crew is just wishful thinking from someone who dislikes the governor.
- Postatronic4000 - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 3:45 pm:
Reaganing, Logic and and common sense don’t work when you try to discuss issues with a message board troll who posts partisan hatred like it’s a full time job.
- wordslinger - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 3:47 pm:
R, I’ve lived in Illinois all my life, so I think it’s a good idea to keep on eye on politicians’ ethics regardless of who’s in office or their party.
If you don’t, that’s your problem and foolishness.
You don’t have the facts to answer my question, so again — the shine box.
- Fax Machine - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 3:49 pm:
That’s what I’m saying - Rauner & Morrison can cobble together a majority of the Chicago weighted vote between their allies & pulling strings - so do they remove the snake or is it not worth the effort.
Plus it wouldn’t surprise me if the bylaws gave the county chairman the power to fire the city chairman on his own.
- wordslinger - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 4:02 pm:
Post, “Logic and common sense” would dictate that you don’t assume politicians always always act ethically, given history.
The IR story said “Rauner staffer.” It’s a reasonable question to ask if it’s a government or campaign staffer.
Do you know the answer for a fact? If not, go to
Rs house and get his shine box.

=Oops. I meant Steve Brown.==
Well, I mean, he’s neither.
- Anonymous - Thursday, Oct 26, 17 @ 5:36 pm:
The city chairman is elected by ward committeemen from Chicago. Cleveland had a comfortable margin in the most recent election in which each committeeman casts a weighted vote.
As for the ouster of several ward committeemen who had never previously voted in the Republican primary, a Federal court judge said it was acceptable for the party to safeguard the integrity of its committee by refusing to seat double agents.
- Red tower - Friday, Oct 27, 17 @ 1:06 am:
Well what do they expect. Rauner bought the party he gets to do with it as he pleases.

Dear Old Time Golfer,
Simply ftr, Chicago GOP is ably run by Chris Cleveland, not by me, not by Dan Proft, not by Dan and me.
I ‘control’ zilch. Let alone any Gopper organization, let alone ‘Chicago GOP.’
Many thanks,
c
