Today’s quotable

* Tribune…
The Cook County Democratic endorsement of [Sen. Kwame Raoul for attorney general] follows an earlier one by Democrats in southeastern Illinois Madison County. But U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, who made a brief visit to the slatemaking session, said Quinn has the benefit of being familiar to voters who maybe don’t know other candidates in the crowded primary race.
“Pat Quinn’s appetite for public service is insatiable. I’ve seen it throughout his life and his political life. He loves public life, and he loves service,” said Durbin, whose winning effort for the U.S. Senate in 1996 included a primary challenge from Quinn.
“He’s run against everybody,” Durbin said, laughing.

Are there two Madison Counties because I’m only familiar with the one in Southwestern Illinois?
Maybe the Tribune could invest in a state map.

backhanded compliments from the man who literally never wants to stop being your Senator.

“He’s run against everybody,” Durbin said, laughing.
And he will do so until the will of the people is the law of the land….

===…southeastern Illinois Madison County===
It’s the Madison County that borders Lincoln County…

I think it speaks to the jealously Quinn has for the Burris Masuleum…

“He loves public life” is the only accurate aspect of that quote, and Dick knows it.

Not sure this is plus in the general…”Quinn has the benefit of being familiar to voters” . Familiar for what is the question !

Familiar is not always good and in this case it’s not. You have a former LT Governor to Blago, who lost to Rauner as Governor, and seems. I almost want to say being familiar with Quinn makes you NOT want to vote for him.

–familiar to voters–
I remember an old saying that familiarity breeds something… /s
–He loves public life–
Says the guy who has been in it since 1983.
- Publius - Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 3:18 pm:
Madison County? Southeastern Illinois?
C’mon man
- Rich Miller - Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 3:25 pm:
=== Southeastern Illinois? ===
It’s a typo. Move along.
- Winnin’ - Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 4:18 pm:
Jerry Brown made a comeback. Bernie’s still runnin’ strong.
Pat Quinn will make a great AG.
Something Durbin knows.

Think “Winnin” might be right…
- don the legend - Monday, Nov 6, 17 @ 5:05 pm:
I have been fairly active in campaigns and elections since 1979. I still get sad that the vast majority of voters never bother to learn anything substantial about candidates.
When they see a list of names they vote for a familiar one. Ruiz, Drury, Raoul, Rotering, Mariotti, Goldstein and Quinn.
Quinn is the one they just might recognize more than any other.

Quinn does love service. He might win. And this might be the right job for him.
