Rate Prizker’s new online ad

* Press release…

Today, the JB Pritzker campaign released a new ad responding to desperate attempts by failed governor Bruce Rauner to meddle in the Democratic primary.

The ad highlights the growing list of blunders, missteps and failures that the Worst Republican Governor in America struggles to address as he launches an attack strategy that was recently called “prematurely desperate.” Just this week, Rauner created school funding uncertainly, thousands of Illinoisans saw their healthcare disrupted, an auto plant chose to break ground in Alabama instead of Illinois, and Rauner was forced to distance himself from embattled Missouri Governor Eric Greitens and couldn’t answer a simple question about former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke being racist.

“After coming up short on accomplishments and creating constant crisis, it’s clear that Bruce Rauner now believes inserting himself in the Democratic primary is his only chance to win re-election,” said Pritzker campaign communications director Galia Slayen. “Rauner has reached a new low in his attempt to distract from the countless failures of his governorship, but Illinoisans won’t forget the damage they’ve been forced to live through for the past three years.”

WHY DOES BRUCE RAUNER CONTINUE TO ATTACK JB PRITZKER IN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY?

“Some schools now facing funding uncertainly after Governor Bruce Rauner vetoed a school funding bill.”

“Mental healthcare providers say a state computer glitch is disrupting care for thousands of patients.”

“A Toyota Mazda plant that several communities here in our area were vying for is headed to Alabama.”

“Bruce Rauner may be trying to distance himself from Greitens. Governor Bruce Rauner was asked if David Duke was a racist. The governor did not answer directly, so Duke thanked the governor.”

AND THAT WAS JUST THIS WEEK

That’s funny…just this week. If they just went back another week or two they could talk about Quincy Veterans’ Home.

  2. - 47th Ward - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 10:56 am:

It’s a perfect response that clearly explains why Rauner is desperate to change the subject to, well, anything other than his many failures.

  3. - Arsenal - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 10:59 am:

It’s fine, and it bolsters the ad on TV right now. But nobody sees online ads.

  4. - Leonard Washginton - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:00 am:

That’s a weak, weak response after the bludgeoning the past week.

    I’ll give it a C-

  5. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:00 am:

Keeping the pressure on, keeping Rauner’s missteps fresh and relevant, keeping Rauner on the defensive, “Skyhook, in reverse”

    It’s a “B”

    “Why?”

It’s far above a “Gentleman’s C” but still a large river between the Ad and an “A”

It’s going to be critical with Rauner, like Rauner did to Quinn, to not give Rauner a sense of breathing room, but continually reinforce “Bruce Rauner fails” and doing it with recent errors and missteps reinforcing that premise.

These are the things where that Crew shines.

    ===But nobody sees online ads.===

What planet do you live on?

  7. - Reality Check - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:10 am:

This may work on Youtube as an ad that appears before the video you’re trying to watch. It will absolutely not work on Facebook, however, since nothing happens in the first few seconds to grab the attention of people scrolling by, and there’s no large text on the screen to transmit the spot’s message to the vast majority of viewers of Facebook users who watch video with the sound off.

  8. - So So - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:13 am:

    Grade: C+

It could have been much stronger. The omission of the veterans’ home in Quincy is puzzling.

  9. - Arsenal - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:16 am:

==What planet do you live on?==

    Earth.

Oh, I know, JB’s ads are like, the second entry on my Facebook feed every day. But I scroll right past them, and I’m a *fan*.

  10. - Arsenal - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:18 am:

==That’s a weak, weak response after the bludgeoning the past week.==

Heh, “bludgeoning”. Rauner got the press to write about his ad yesterday, but otherwise Greitens, Duke, and marijuana dominated the debate far more. Hell, JB’s “response” ad is actually playing more than the original one.

  11. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:18 am:

===The omission of the veterans’ home in Quincy is puzzling. ===

It was last week. The ad is about this week.

  12. - Responsa - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:19 am:

What on earth was that? Ads by the governor featuring JB’s shortcomings is “meddling in the Democratic primary”, but JB campaign ads blasting Rauner’s shortcomings or featuring individuals who have nothing to do with Illinois governance is fine and dandy? No hypocrisy there. (eyeroll) Campaigns air ads which attempt to damage opponents and potential opponents. That’s politics. That’s what campaigns do.
That said, this is the worst JB ad ever and if this one is somehow meant to counteract the Blago tape it fails miserably. Grade D.

  13. - Arsenal - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:22 am:

    ==That’s what campaigns do.==

And camapaigns respond to each other’s ads to try to minimize whatever damage they may cause, too. I get why you’d rather JB just let whatever Rauner said stand, but that’s not the business we’ve chosen.

  14. - Responsa - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:29 am:

==I get why you’d rather JB just let whatever Rauner said stand, ==

That’s not what I said at all, is it?

  15. - Arsenal - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:31 am:

==That’s not what I said at all, is it?==

Doesn’t have to be to be accurate.

  16. - Lester Holt’s Mustache - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 11:32 am:

That’s pretty good, I give it a solid B with extra points for using clips from downstate news channels and not solely relying on Chicago station reports. I think voters are quicker to believe their local news anchors and reporters, as opposed to some random concerned-sounding woman or deep-voiced guy reading from a script.

The list of missteps is a mile long for Rauner, there are literally dozens of different news reports Pritzker could use in this style of attack ad. I don’t know if it’d be more effective to pick two or three items (“I’m not in charge”, Quincy, and exploding the state’s debt, for example) and run the same commercials over and over - or - to just run this type of ad every month or so with different damaging news reports from over the last three years.

FYI Facebook can generate captions for any video ad w/ click of a button. I do agree about ‘grabbing attention’ but you can still pay the dough to get the impressions and reach.

There are tons of places across the web where this ad will work as a non-skippable pre-roll video.

  18. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 12:09 pm:

I like it, because it’s fast and relies on news clips to tell the story. The best part is that it’s only one week of bad governance.

    B rating.

  19. - Anon0091 - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 12:39 pm:

Gets the job done and I agree with Lester Holt’s Mustache that it gets extra credit for using downstate clips and not just Chicago. A solid B.

  20. - Anonymous - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 12:52 pm:

C-……I see so many of his ads now and ignore most. He never says ANYTHING about HOW he is going to do all these things he says he is doing. Easy to talk…..the BND had a good editorial about this today.

    LOL… are you a bot?

This is an attack ad, not an ad touting things Pritzker.

    At least try harder.

  22. - Anonymous - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 1:17 pm:

Rauner is beatable however his opposition wants to focus on emotion not substance. The DEM’s will vote that way but winning the other votes will be harder with that strategy

===The DEM’s will vote that way but winning the other votes will be harder with that strategy===

    lol,

Rauner is the worst “Republican” Governor in America.

    Recalibrate.

  24. - Jason Plummer - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 1:24 pm:

    Rauner is my bae

==Rauner is beatable however his opposition wants to focus on emotion not substance.==

    Emotion is what wins elections.

  26. - saw Pelicans today - Friday, Jan 19, 18 @ 2:07 pm:

Rauner is good for one thing, beating up Pritzker.

Rauner should indulge in a little fat-shaming on the anointed Dem candidate. After all, that is what those Dem voters are concerned about this week, as evidenced by the outcry regarding Trump’s weight and impending demise from his girth issue. /s
