Rep. Cabello to Gov. Rauner: Resign
Wednesday, Jan 31, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller
* You don’t see this every day…
Republican State Rep. John Cabello tells 13 WREX he believes Gov. Bruce Rauner should resign during an interview following Wednesday’s State of the State address in Springfield.
Cabello points to the governor’s credibility as the main reason for his comments, saying the governor has broken his word, specifically on House Bill 40. Cabello says in meetings with the governor, Rauner told lawmakers he would not sign the bill related to abortion funding. House Bill 40 was eventually signed into law in late September.
“When you tell someone you are not going to do something, you should stick to your word,” Cabello said. “I can’t trust any words that he says from here on out.”
When asked about Rauner’s State of the State speech Wednesday, Cabello only responded by saying “I was raised that if you have nothing nice to say you shouldn’t say it at all.”
Cabello is one of a tiny number of legislative Republicans who supported President Trump in the 2016 GOP nomination battle.

Maybe Rep. Cabello is a big fan of Ole Slip and Sue?
I kid. Why do I kid?
How is this helpful? What good is this doing except getting a nice press pop.
You take your ire out in the politics, not the governing of someone doing their own constitutional duties.
Yes. It appears Rauner did more than misled. His actions after, they were completely above board and legal and within the rights and duties of the Office.
You don’t like like it, work against Rauner.
Calling for his resignation is such posturing and political theatre, it takes away from the transgression.
Shoulda not said anything, like he did about the speech today.
Bad form. Get over yourself.
- Last Bull Moose - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 8:52 pm:
Good idea, but too late. If Rauner were results driven he would have picked someone to advance his agenda. That would have required him to realize he was bad at governance.
Rauner seems ego driven and disconnected from reality. Such a wasted opportunity.
- Norseman - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 8:54 pm:
LOL. Credibility has been a problem with Rauner since election night. It didn’t bother Cabello when the lies favored his positions.
- Blue dog dem - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 8:54 pm:
Good for him.
- JS Mill - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 8:55 pm:
Instead of crying about it he should do something about it. Maybe help find a way to pay the state’s bills? That would be a nice start.

What a bizarre election cycle we are in. But whatever hurts the people that deserve to lose is fine with me , I guess.

The man has an opinion let him express it. He doesnt need a lecture from the likes of willy. Get over yourself ow

- Regular democrat -
Your own lecture of me is noted, lol
- Hottot - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 9:26 pm:
Why should Rauner resign? He makes more as governor, while not taking a “salary”, than he ever did in the private sector. As long as there’s debt to acquire, as long as there’s kickbacks to be had, as long as there’s interest to collect…..he’ll be there!

-I agree
To the post. I agree with Rep Cabellp. We need more like him to speak out.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 9:59 pm:
===We need more like him to speak out.===
… by saying ridiculous things like “resign”?
You go with that, lol
- Real - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 10:02 pm:
@Ow
Are you saying phony Gov Rauner doesn’t need to resign? You speak against Rauner all day now you go against a republican rep that now has seen Rauner is no good?
- Michelle Flaherty - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 10:05 pm:
Ever wonder how someone like Rep Cal Skinner would have dealt with Rauner?
(Did i actually type and think that?)
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 10:08 pm:
===Are you saying phony Gov Rauner doesn’t need to resign? ===
Nope. He’s the governor. Elections have consequences. You don’t like his governing, vote him out. That’s how democracy works.
===You speak against Rauner all day now you go against a republican rep that now has seen Rauner is no good?===
No. He says he should resign. Rauner right now has no reason or cause to resign, even being less than truthful on a bill signing.
He didn’t break his oath by signing that bill.
We’re not a 3rd World Banana Republic, although Rauner would like that.
Beat him in March, defeat him in November.
Resign? Hmm.
- Real - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 10:10 pm:
@OW
So I guess the chair of the Lottery should have never resigned. Elections have consequences and he was a Rauner appointee.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 10:14 pm:
Ugh,
When the “appointee” can constitutionally, legally sign passed legislation and make it law, call me.
That’s the beef. Keep up.
He didn’t like that he went back on his word on HB40… now… resign.
- Real - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 10:19 pm:
In my opinion I think HB 40 is only what Rep Cabello is willing to say public. I believe it has to do with HB 40 and a whole lot more that he isn’t going to share for now.
- People Over Parties - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 10:23 pm:
It is absolutely ridiculous to suggest resignation. Work against him if you don’t agree with him. Cabello should do better.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 10:25 pm:
===I believe it has to do with HB 40 and a whole lot more that he isn’t going to share for now.===
If all governors who misled on how they would handle a bill sent to their desks had to resign, we’d have fewer governors.
Legislators change their minds on votes too, make promises too, sometimes they flip… too
None should resign.
Vote them out. Democracy.
Goodnight.
Until next time…
- justacitizen - Wednesday, Jan 31, 18 @ 11:15 pm:
Rauner has been consistent that the entrenched politicians have ruined IL (i.e., M Madigan). He has been unable to execute his game plan though. You don’t shake up Springfield. Springfield shakes you up.
- Ste_with_a_ven - Thursday, Feb 1, 18 @ 1:31 am:
Rep. Cabello…you’re a joke.
- Rabid - Thursday, Feb 1, 18 @ 4:45 am:
He is frustrated too at the worst govenor that has left the state worst off
