The Kennedy family name still has sway in Hollywood, it seems.
Not only have comedian Larry David and diva Barbra Streisand donated to Chris Kennedy’s gubernatorial campaign fund, but now Dan Aykroyd has cut a “Blues Brothers”-themed ad for Kennedy.
“The Blues Brothers had to break many laws in order to pay the Cook County Property Assessor’s office $5,000 for Sister Mary Stigmata, to save their Catholic orphanage,” Aykroyd says in the ad, in which he is filmed working under the hood of a police squad car. “Thirty-eight years later, the Cook County Assessor is still ripping off Chicagoans. Dirty politicians have made a fortune by enforcing unfair tax assessments.
“Now you know I love Chicago, and I know that the only way that corruption will end is if Chris Kennedy is elected governor of Illinois on March 20. Please, end the racket!”
* ADDED: Actor Jesse Eisenberg to join Daniel Biss rally in Chicago on Saturday: How’s this for irony: Jesse Eisenberg, who has a penchant for playing ambitious, high-profile business tycoons, is suddenly campaigning against real-life billionaires J.B. Pritzker and Bruce Rauner in support of a “middle-class” governor candidate.
Personally, I liked the university. They gave us money and facilities, we didn’t have to produce anything! You’ve never been out of college! You don’t know what it’s like out there! I’ve WORKED in the private sector. They expect *results*.
my guess is too little too late. but these are great, smart, beloved people and wonderful gets for Kennedy. want Luther the Anger Translator to do a bit. or something from Vincent Clortho Public School for Wizards.
Kennedy has been running for Governor since 2016-17. Primary is in 2 weeks and he’s got a Seinfeld producer, one Blues Brother and Babs… impressive. /s
I don’t understand the Jesse Eisenberg thing. Biss has been pushing this hard on Facebook all week. As far as I can tell, Eisenberg has no connection to Illinois. Is he much more popular with the youths than it would appear at first glance?
As for the Aykroyd ad, there’s obviously a glaring error–March 20th is the primary. Kennedy can’t be elected governor. Somewhat curious if that was done purposely to increase the sense of urgency in voting, or if it was a slip when Aykroyd filmed it.
I wonder how this plays in Peoria or does Kennedy see a very narrow path that begins and ends in Cook County? Granted he may have more ads in mindd, but at a time when he should be thinking about a strong close this seems like an incredibly narrow strategy.
There was lots of Blues Brothers movie love on this site just a couple days ago. Hanging around with Belushi and shooting it here there’s no doubt bAkroyd knows a little bit about Chicago and Illinois. Don’t know if this ad will help Kennedy but it can’t hoit. And if Kennedy wins the primary they won’t even have to re-shoot it for the general. C’mon people, don’t be so sour grape-y. This has brought a little and needed spark to the political ad scene in the final days.

A great closing argument for Chris Kennedy’s campaign for Cook County Assessor!

I associated Bill Murray much more with Illinois than Dan Akroyd

Yet another reason not to vote for Kennedy. (Sorry, not a Dan Ackroyd fan.)

Very cool!
Thanks for posting the Ad. Nice way to end a Friday Afternoon.
Made me smile.

Can Dan or Jesse vote for either candidate?
Thinking out loud…

I’d take Ackroyd’s advice on comedy and whiskey. Gubernatorial choices, not so much.

This ad might do more for Fritz Kaegi then it will for Kennedy

==I don’t understand the Jesse Eisenberg thing.==
Biss is really trying to play up his connection to benevolent billionaire Lex Luthor.

Elwood’s endorsement makes me wish Spielberg was governor. Or the actual county assessor.

The only time that celebrity endorsements impress me is if they also walk some precincts or do a couple phone bank shifts.

I’d buy a bass-o-matic before voting for Kennedy.

Dupage, I think Hollywood vocal endorsements hurt more than they help. Campaign money is good though.

According to the Tribune Larry David and Barbara Streisand gave Kennedy $1,000. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
