*** UPDATED x5 - RGA, Rauner campaign respond - “Real buy” *** DGA to air TV ad tomorrow

Thursday, Mar 15, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I asked the Democratic Governors Association about this and they confirmed. They wouldn’t discuss content, but the rumor mill is on fire that it’s an anti-Rauner ad, which would be interesting timing if the GOP primary is actually tightening up. I’ll post it when I get it…

*** UPDATE 1 *** From the RGA…

Hey Rich,

Our ad watcher says the DGA ad is only $30k spread amongst Chicago, Champaign and Rockford.

Those can be upped, but we’ll see.

*** UPDATE 2 *** A reliable person says the RGA tracking is substantially off.

*** UPDATE 3 *** Another very good source who tracks this stuff closely said the DGA ad is “a real buy.”

*** UPDATE 4 *** Will Allison at the Rauner campaign…

“Washington Democrats have teamed up with Mike Madigan’s favorite Republican Jeanne Ives because they know they can’t beat Governor Rauner in November. Governor Rauner’s message of growing jobs, cutting taxes, and rooting out corruption in Illinois has Democrats running scared.”

You knew that had to be coming.

*** UPDATE 5 *** RGA…

“It’s panic time at J.B. Pritzker’s campaign. After the Chicago Tribune’s bombshell article revealing his offshore tax havens and then his disaster of a debate performance, Pritzker is calling in his well-connected friends to bail him out. Desperate times call for desperate measures.” – Republican Governors Association Spokesman Steven Yaffe

Smart. Either it helps Ives pull off an upset or it is damaging Rauner as the general election against him begins.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 12:26 pm:

    Huh…

DGA is actually what ILGo was suppose to be…

That’d be a fine “how do ya do”, wouldn’t it?

  3. - Just Me - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 12:35 pm:

This is just a little fun revenge for Rauner’s anti-Pritzker ads.

  4. - Roman - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 12:36 pm:

    Rauner’s gun veto, now this.

Proves that both GOP and Dem pollsters think Ives is close.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 12:38 pm:

    ===Ives is close.===

    Maybe.

Maybe more about the incredibly low number of early ballots cast in the GOP primary… or to mess with Rauner’s psyche.

  6. - Roman - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 12:41 pm:

I’m guessing they’ll hammer him on Quincy, right?

If it about HB 40 or “sanctuary,” this will officially become the weirdest primary year ever.

  7. - Grand Avenue - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 12:49 pm:

How is there even available ad time left? It seems like literally every minute is booked.

  8. - Spliff - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 12:51 pm:

It appears they have around 122K in their account to play with depending on what expenses they have had so far this year.

  9. - Arsenal - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 12:57 pm:

Seems more like an opening salvo for the General rather than trying to affect the primary. It’s awfully late.

  10. - 19th ward guy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 1:02 pm:

Ives and Proft are both Madigsns favorite Democrats. Guessing likely some huge donor blowback on Proft and the former de facto Governor Tillman come September 20th. The stripper pole fiasco in Durkin’s race, the Ad and the disaster of a campaign they ran for Ives in top of the sun times IPI story
Having their candidate supported by the DGA icing on the cake.

  11. - 19th ward guy - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 1:03 pm:

    Sorry. Fat fingers. March 21st

-And Kennedy is Rauner’s favorite democrat. I hope the DGA buy knocks RAuner out the primary.

    To Update #4

===“Washington Democrats have teamed up with Mike Madigan’s favorite Republican Jeanne Ives because they know they can’t beat Governor Rauner in November. Governor Rauner’s message of growing jobs, cutting taxes, and rooting out corruption in Illinois has Democrats running scared.”===

    Hmm…

“… “Illinois Raunerites have teamed up with Bruce Rauner’s favorite Democrat Ken Dunkin because they know they can’t get Gov. Rauner’s agenda passed with 60 and 30. Governor Rauner’s message of destroying Labor, closing state universities, and starving social service providers in Illinois has actual Republicans running away from Bruce Rauner.”

    This was fun.

Can they send another “Mad-Lib” later?

  15. - Anon221 - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 1:52 pm:

Rauner’s “message” is lost in translation-

Growing jobs- no, not when you count all the jobs lost during his vetoes of budgets and the squeezing to develop leverage, not to mention holding onto funds that had been appropriated for specific programs in order to further the constriction

Cutting taxes- When did he cut taxes??? Sorry, but a veto is not a tax cut.

Rooting out corruption- whooo boy howdy, there’s some things to play with there- Deloitte, DCFS Agency Head, warehousing, off-shoring, etc., etc..

Yep- quite a record to run on. More like a record to run far, far away from. And, he’ll try, you know, “Because Madigan”.

Low voter turnout could equal trouble for BR.

  17. - Mama - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 2:08 pm:

Rich, why did the ‘Democratic Governors Association’ not run their Rauner ad sooner? People have been voting in the primary for at least 2 weeks now. How many people have already voted either by mail or by going to their county building to vote?

Someone should tell the ‘Democratic Governors Association’ that IL allows people to vote early.

    The Claire McCaskill playbook?

  19. - Concerned Dem - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 2:22 pm:

Mama, according to early vote totals GOP voter haven’t voted yet… but point taken, there is never a bad time to take a swing at this Governor.

  20. - Ducky LaMoore - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 2:29 pm:

    ===The Claire McCaskill playbook?===

Totally. But I doubt Pritzker will shotgun a beer if Ives wins the primary.

Here is the first-person account. It really was political genius.

  22. - Not It - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 2:58 pm:

Team Rauner is really doubling down on the pants-on-fire claim of Ives being Madigan’s favorite. I thought that maybe after being called out for the absurdity of it they’d let it fade away.

I guess the fact that it’s working so well justifies the use of blatant lies.

  23. - Generation X - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 3:05 pm:

Is it telling that Ives made it into Rauner’s response? If he was unconcerned about primary he could have just said Pritzker/Madigan are at it again etc

  24. - Sue - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 3:21 pm:

Expect a low R turnout. Many of us are going to or already have pulled Dem ballots in order to vote for Kennedy and Drury and anyone else opposed to allowing the Soeaker to continue to rule over Madiganstan

  25. - Cubs in '16 - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 3:46 pm:

Hmmm, this has me wondering if I should pull an R ballot instead to vote for Ives. No time like the present to rid ourselves of Rauner if it’s really that close.

  26. - Real - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 5:06 pm:

    @Sue

Also, expect a low voter turnout in November when GovJunk is sent fleeing back to Hades. BR thought he was winning 9 seats. How so when republicans won’t show up to vote? Lol

  27. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Mar 15, 18 @ 6:04 pm:

Way to throw that vote away, Sue. You will never get a State job at this rate.
